and the time difference to South america concacaf is better, ie we would not be playing at bedtime... thats half the reason the nux, breakers and the warriors + the netball girls are mediocre on their travels

i think i have recovered... I agree with Ryan.. I am gutted...

we are not the best or the prettiest team going but we can compete...

yawn re asia, go for central america or south america, I would rather we spent ten years + getting to their standards than go to asia...

and all them people who say about NZ vs Australia, sometimes a neighbour is all you have got when you live in the middle of nowhere...

It is not a 2 legged play off, or one off games that you can play for pride (draws, whatever you want to call them). It is a long qualification process starting with 35 teams.

NZ have already shown that they can be competitive against Asian opposition. Integrating Oceania into Asia is the only realistic way that NZ can get a higher number of competitive football games, and have a CHANCE at consistantly qualifying for the Cup.

NZ have no hope when it comes to CONMBOL qualifiaction, and only a slight hope with the geographically unrealistic CONCACAF.

I have no problems if NZ and the rest of Oceania went to North or South America.

Flying Auckland to (say) Los Angeles or Buenos Aires would be less travel time than say Auckland to Damascus, Syria.

What the fuck is with all the bitter anti New Zealand shit in this thread/forum ??

Granted the vast majority of people here are saying congrats to new zealand and good on them..

But i dont see the need for the arrogant comments saying how shit they are (Granted its the same people everytime)

Guessing the same people thought it was a joke when they made it into the world cup.. and thought they would get thrashed by 6 goals every game...

Their team was made up of mainly A-League/Phoenix players.. ONE? Prem player .. 2-3 ? without clubs.. hell one of their players had to get time off from his work as a banker to play in the world cup.

And they played with more heart and soul than probably any team in the group stages

agree with villaboy to an extent.

i thought bahrain were the better side in manama and it was quite fortuitous that they didn't manage to score a couple of goals, as with the penalty in wellington.

however, I thought we were better in wellington and in the latter stages of the game were unlucky to not push the score to 2-0 or 3-0.

having said that, I think bahrain would have been eaten alive in south africa. the determination and heart shown by our players was the factor missing from bahrain in the playoffs.

I also believe that our game will progress nicely, as for the first time ever, our age group teams have become competitive. Despite players like reid and smith being quite raw at the moment (smith especially) we have a solid base to build on. Barring injury, i expect these players will be crucial at WC 2018 in australia =)
