Are you online yet avy?

Consumers are used to paying $60 each for videogames that run on consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Now the publisher behind the industry's biggest videogame franchise—"Call of Duty"—is about to find out whether it can get them to pay a monthly bill, too.
Activision Blizzard Inc. plans to launch an online service called Call of Duty Elite this fall that will work with the next major edition of the game, "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3," and future installments of the hyper-realistic combat-simulation game. In a move industry executives describe as a first, Activision plans to charge a monthly subscription fee for the service, which will provide extra content that isn't offered on game discs sold in stores, including downloadable map packs that give players new "Call of Duty" levels to play.

The article continues on to describe it more.

...So...How's Battlefield sounding for everyone?

The game will still be epic on it's own. This is just an extra pay service, kind of like the DLC but as a monthly fee.

Battlefield did something similarish with that whole 'Gold Edition' thing - offering better maps and weapons and stuff if you got the better version.

I'll still get MW3, as will millions of others.

Gold Edition was a one off payment IIRC, this is a Monthly Subscription, completely different. I'll still be getting it, it's just a very interesting step they're taking.

MW3 will be solid, only things I'm worried about is if the campaign is too short or if the online play has the same old MW2 bullshit but apart from that it'll be the same old solid COD game that everyone will fap over for a few months

I've never played any Battlefield game and by the looks of it Battlefield 3 is absolutely massive and epic. Cannot. Fucking. Wait.

Yeah I'm hugely keen on Battlefield as well. Looking forward to getting both and seeing which one wins my attention. Should be good to be able to alternate between them too, will never go bored!

Yeah, I'm honestly not as excited for MW3 as I was for the other 2. Not sure why, maybe it's coz of BF3, or some other games I'm looking forward to or what.

Another Article detailing what COD:Elite will provide, for the free membership at least. The OCD/Collector in me likes this, I love looking over stats, stuff like this, so I'm coming around to the idea of it more and more. I think my original problem with it is that it seems to be dangerously close to charging for online play.

I dont like it, its a blatant money grab and it encourages bad gamer edicate like camping in cases such as:

'View heat maps indicating dangerous areas in levels where players die the most'

Takes away people actually having to think about how to play it and tells them everyone goes here, so grab your sniper and have a blast.

For shame!

Looks sexy, but I'll be honest, there's nothing really there that gets me excited for it. Looks pretty much exactly like MW2, just new settings. I know it's only a small snippet, but in FPS' where the story/campaign length is never really a selling point, they have to keep bringing new things to the table.

Definitely more excited for the new Assassin's Creed and Battlefield, as well as Skyrim and Dark Souls.

Also on E3, I've never been one for handheld gaming, apart from a dedication to Pokemon, but the Vita actually looks pretty fucking cool.

Bought 'Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising' yesterday.. Seen it around heaps and it was only $26 yesterday so thought why not. Played a little bit and the controls are freaking weird.. But I guess I am just used to the COD configuration. I'll give it a good crack before I say if it's shit or not.

On console?

The original Operation Flashpoint is still one of my favourite games ever. It was released nearly 10 years ago.

It makes it look terrible, but consider this was only a couple years after Half Life 1 lol. Incredibly bad graphics, incredibly great gameplay.

As for MW3, I dropped it after MW2 decided to fail with no dedicated servers, and the series is stale. I played the Blops Free Weekend on steam and it just confirmed to me how much it sucks now.

Bring on Bf3 \:d/

I bought Elder Scrolls: Oblivion the other week upon recommendation (read: persistent nagging) from Funky.

Been quite enjoyable, I like games where exploring is important and it's held my interest well. Should definitely tide me over until Oct/Nov when all the new stuff comes out.
