That what you get when Spain play agaisnt a completely negative Dutch side. Spain deserved the victory - anyone saying otherwise is a complete football novice.

Foster's commentating was so painfully biased towards Spain it turned me from being completely neutral to "PLEASE WIN NETHERLANDS".

No team stood out in this world cup.. Maybe Germany, but they were outclassed by Spain..
Therefore spain deserves it.. Netherlands had one good game for the whole tournament and if they had won the final with this performance i wuldve been very disappointed..
ps. This tournament has proved all teams dive.. not just the italians..

Agree. Gian. Germany got taught a lesson by the Spanish in how to hold on to the ball. Their stars also went missing in the game. How did they deserve to be there?
Netherlands tried to kick Spain off the park. Surprised Heitinga was the only Dutch player sent off. Spain may have been giving it back, but it was definitely on the Netherlands for the way the game turned out.

Amazing how some of you people still don't understand how football works.

Of course Spain deserved it. Netherlands were disgraceful..

For the life of me I cannot understand how that detestable grub Van Bommel doesn't get sent off in every game that he plays in...

Man I can't believe I am agreeing this much with Afro, but Spain were hardly a potent attacking threat - every time the camera panned over the crowd I saw a lot of bored and apprehensive faces. Neither team was all that flash, a game billed as a clash of Total Football had nothing of it on display. The only real positive that Spain had was their midfield, which is great at keeping the ball - otherwise their backline would have been exposed more than it was. It was a let down of a game, especially the diving and cynical fouls from both teams.

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

Both teams put in equally bad tackles, I'm guessing a few of you just got swayed by Foster's incredibly biased commentary. The guy is a Grade-A tool.

The game sucked from both teams in general, neither particularly deserved it for pretty football. In all seriousness though there were a few good chances for each team, and if they'd gone in then idiots like Foster would be going on about how it was such a great game.

General - I think you got the fans emotion mixed up bored can be confused with nervous. 0-0 after 90minutes the emotions are farley well bottled up. Thats how I felt anyway until Iniesta scored. Spain were missing Senna in this World Cup and I think Fabregas made the difference as they looked more potent when he came on. The passing game may not be everyones cup of tea, you have to actually play the game to appreciate how good the Spanish are at moving the ball around. It might be frustrating if your a supporter of the other team because the possession is all one sided but it truly is a pleasure to watch and I'm sure if Australia played this way nobody would be complaining.

I am not so sure, it is not 'us' if you get what I mean?

Spain were better to watch with Fabregas on the pitch because he made them move the ball forward better, Villa seemed much less isolated with Fabregas on the pitch - I cannot understand not starting him.

Villa was isolated up front as he likes to attack from the left side. It was a shame Torres was not in form because Spain would have been alot deadlier. Fabregas taking a back seat to Xavi, Iniesta and Xabi Alonso...thats a tough one, but to have a player of that calibre on your bench is worrying for the other team. I think Xabi Alonso will step down and Fabregas will be a starter come the next Euro. He's still fairly young.

I wasnt saying the Socceroos should adopt the Spanish style - I was saying nobody would complain.

All in all in Euro 08 Spain played flawess. This world cup they were not perfect but it was enough.

Torres may not have been scoring goals but he was doing for Spain what van Persie was doing for the Dutch, giving the wide men room to play.

Funnily enough it may make him not want to move. Seeing he can't get a start ahead of Iniesta Xavi and Bicuits for Spain might make him see it would be a mistake going to Barca which it would be.

I think Spain are deserving champions. Whether there have been more entertaining teams or not is irrelevant. Do people really expect to see 32 teams rock up and play like Germany? You can only play as good as the opposition lets you. Spain managed to win 6 straight matches when it counted, despite the often negative tactics used against them.

Admittedly a few Spanish players have been nowhere near their best at this WC, but this shows that the tactics they use can be successful even if the team's best players aren't on fire.

Spain did deserve to win the final, I think this is being missed here. No one is saying they did not deserve to win the final - they are saying that they played a boring brand of football to get there. The Netherlands played a cynical brand of football to get there. The only team that reached the pointy end of the comp playing positive attacking football that was a pleasure to watch (even though they smashed us 4-0) was Germany.

Spain didn't deserve it. They really didn't play a good tournament. Believe Foster's wank if you will, but Germany and Netherlands both played a better tournament than Spain did.

Shocking diving from Iniesta made the difference and I don't know how he'll sleep tonight knowing that his cheating turned the game.

There was diving and feigning injury by EVERY team in this tournament.

Fact is that the 22 guys out there get paid shit-loads of money and they'll use any means to get opposing players carded and thus give their team an advantage.

Bottom line: spain disappointed. They won, yes. Congratulations. But they were far from the best team in the tournament and I'd say the only team that was more boring to watch than Spain was England.

What pisses me off the most though, is people like Ned Zelic and Craig Foster saying "We" when referring to Spain. You're about as fucking spanish as Haggis. JUST SHUT UP!

Afro - Spain would have been better to watch if teams didn't play so defensive against them. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that one out. You just have to watch Spain demolishing of Hungray in the pre-tournament warm up to see what happens when you give Spain too much space. What type of tactics do you play against Spain? Ultra defensive high pressure counter attacks.

I am pretty sure that Brazil would have had Spains measure. They were a brilliant (even if Brazilian's can't see it) mix of defensive nouse and attacking flair, if they hadn't stuffed it against the Netherlands they would be the ones holding up the World Cup once again.
