Robben didn't go to ground because he wasn't in the box. He thought it'd be better to go for goal then go down and only get a freekick just outside the box.

That's my thinking at least.

De Jongs tackle was a disgrace and he shouldve seen red for that

van bommel was also on a tight rope and probably shouldve seen red.

the dutch were poor and didnt deserve to win

In a sense even though de jong deserved to be sent off for the fly kick to Xabi Alonso's chest - I'm glad he wasnt becasue as finals go it would have completley killed it off.

Thats the conundram for a WC Final referee. And its EXACTLY the reason de Jong attempted it, knowing he'd quite likely would get away with just a yellow for what was a straight red.

Personally I'd have rather the ref before kick off have a chat with the captains and simply say:"If its a red in any other match it will be red in the Final. Tell you players that".

Its farcical when 14 yellows are dished out in a Final, in the name of "not ruining the final with a send off". IMO if14 yellows are dished out, the games' already a piece of crap. 14 yellows makes the final a worse spectacle than one early red.

It probably would have been a better spectacle if de Jong had been sent off frankly. Spain would have actaully pressed the Netherland's goal and the Netherlands would have had better counter attcking opportunities.
