Not sure where to post this...

Was digging around for former Jets players to see how they're travelling, and turns out Lee Ki-je had a bumper 2021.
He made the K-League team of the season, contributed a bunch of goals from left-back (including a few screamers) and made a couple of appearances from the South Korean national team.
Shame we only got 20 or so appearances out of him, but no surprise he wanted out in the dark days of Phil Stubbins.

Newcastle Jets are pleased to welcome Arthur Diles, Huss Skenderovic and Riccardo Marchioli to the Club.

The trio will join Manager Arthur Papas’s coaching staff for the upcoming A-League season.

Diles joins as Head Coach from Xanthi FC in Greece where he held the position of First Team Assistant.

As a player, Diles represented Crawley Town in England, Belgium’s KV Mechelen, along with Sydney Olympic, Sydney United and Parramatta Power in the National Soccer League.

Staff

Throughout his coaching career in Australia and abroad, Diles has amassed a wealth of knowledge from his role as Technical Director of Sydney Olympic, to Youth League Coach and Senior Assistant positions with Western Sydney.

Skenderovic comes on board as Assistant Coach.

A former Technical Director at Ajman in the UAE and Adelaide United W-League and Youth Development Coach, Skenderovic joins the Jets from Japan where he has been a Senior Assistant at Kagoshima United Football Club.

Papas also welcomes Riccardo Marchioli to his support staff as Head of Analysis and Individual Development Coach.

The Analyst for Melbourne Victory last season, Marchioli is also an experienced coach, having held multiple positions across the Victorian NPL including Technical Director and Head Coaching roles.

“I’m pleased to have Arthur Diles, Huss Skenderovic and Riccardo Marchioli join a restructured football department at the Newcastle Jets,” Papas said.

“All three possess a variety of competencies and experiences and will add significant expertise to our program.

“Most importantly, they have the attitude and work ethic that’s required to ensure we create an environment that operates at a best practise level.”

I wonder if this means any of the current staff will leave?

With Mariners impending demise who becomes enemy number 1?

Sydney FC or WSW?

To clarify, CCM are currently enemy number 2.

Enemy number 1 is very much ourselves

But absolutely, the Jerks are very much no different to basically every other AL team that outside of your own derby, Sydney FC are the least liked club both on and off the field.

WSW aren't successful enough to be a worthwhile enemy.

Sydney. To steal a quote from Ric Flair "to be the man, you gotta beat the man".

However if Wollongong replaced the Mariners in the league we could probably get the old Steel City rivalry going again.

The club is very much for sale, there is just no solid interest.

Every time regional sides are talked about for the ALeague, honestly, is this not enough evidence that big cities Must Only enter the competition, including any second division.. Newy and the like of CCM, Wollongong and Canberra are NPL.

How long does Merrick have left on his deal? No point sacking him if Lee has to pay him out.

Looks like the jets have near zero support in this forum this thread rarely bumped and no mention of sacking Merrick, its just not keeping up with forum norms, shame on you :)

We have our own forum that covers Jets and local football, no real need to discuss things relevant to us outside of there.

Newcastle Jets owner is looking to sell according to the Australian, apparently losing money due to the trade war.

This has been known for quite a while: https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/jets-for-sale-as-owner-looks-to-cut-costs

According to Lawrie we've had a few enquires but nothing substantial. Maybe once the independent A-League is fully up and running there'll be more interest.

Dimi Petratos has re-signed for 3 years.

Good guy Dimi - commits himself for the next three years and, if an overseas club comes knocking, snags a decent transfer for the Jets. Win-win all round.

FFA admits Newcastle Jets copped a dodgy call in their 2-all draw with Western Sydney.

FOOTBALL Federation Australia has admitted the match officials erred in one of the crucial decisions that prompted Ernie Merrick’s post-match tirade after Newcastle’s 2-all draw with Western Sydney last Friday.

Merrick was issued with a “show cause” notice on Tuesday and given seven business days to explain why he should not face a code-of-conduct sanction for labelling the performances of referee Peter Green and Video Assistant Referee Strebre Delovski “a disgrace”.

CITED: Ernie Merrick

 CITED: Ernie Merrick

Newcastle felt aggrieved after conceding two goals from dubious penalties, and having another disallowed when Jets defender Jason Hoffman was controversially ruled to have fouled Wanderers goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic.

On the FFA’s official website, in a  video segment entitled “The Whistle”, the governing body said Delovski had incorrectly overturned Green’s decision to rule play-on after a hand-ball incident involving Jets defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley.

According to the laws of the game, a hand-ball penalty should only be awarded if the incident was intentional.

“FFA has determined the ball ricocheted off Marcelo Carrusca into the arm of Topor-Stanley from a short distance, and this was an unexpected ball,” FFA said.

“Taking this into account, the referee’s decision to play on was not a clear and obvious error and the VAR should not have intervened.”

Referees boss Ben Wilson told the Newcastle Herald the VAR’s other two decisions on the night, overturning goals to Hoffman and Western Sydney’s Chris Ikonimidis, for offside, were both correct.

“We got two right and one wrong,” Wilson said.

Jets chief executive Lawrie McKinna was hopeful FFA would take the admission of error into account when deciding what sanction, if any, to impose on Merrick.

“We’ve got a few points that we’ll highlight in our submission, and that [the Topor-Stanley penalty] is one of them,” McKinna said.

“We accept that Ernie’s broken the code of conduct and overstepped the line, but we’ll be putting a case together and see what happens.

“The fact they have admitted on their own website that there was an error is quite encouraging.”

Jets attacker Andrew Nabbout said players would appreciate some clarity on how the VAR system was supposed to operate.

“Obviously some of the calls were a little bit questionable,” Nabbout said.

“But at the end of the day, it’s the referee who’s running the show.

“That’s what we were a little bit confused about, because on a couple of decisions he had actually made a decision to give the goal or not, and then we waited to see what the guy up top [VAR] was saying.

“So there’s a little bit of confusion at our end about who’s actually going to make the final decision.”

Nabbout said he regarded the VAR as “a positive thing” but it needed to be applied consistently.

“There can’t be any grey areas going into the finals … as the season’s progressed, there has been a few games where there have been calls made in grey areas,” he said.

“I think that’s where everyone has to be on the same page.

“We have to state what it can be used for and when it can be used.”

We just need the final stage of upgrades to happen on the stadium to remove the hills and become and all seater. Some like the grass areas but I am not in that boat at all.

The Knights just got a $10M grant from the government to build a "centre of excellent" at the stadium grounds (with their owners Wests chucking in another $10M) which hopefully can help this happen. Just look at the artists impression . (This was from before the COE was a thing but you get the idea)

Nooooo the hills are the best part. There are 26,000 plastic seats for anyone who wants to sit on them, more than enough. Just look at any Jets crowd, there is a decent portion of fans who choose to sit on the hill over the grandstand - why take that away? It would totally ruin the grounds atmosphere/feel.

They could do some basic work to make the ground a little nicer, like getting rid of the old corporate boxes behind the hills and maybe getting a better big screen (it is tiny).
