Another striker, Falcao? Hazard?

And 17 mill, isn't that rediculous, overpriced with out a doubt, but not absolutely outrageous imo. The fee for Gervinho seems to be 10 mill plus Gary Cahill, 27 mill, that still leaves us with enough for Samba too, why not?

Won't be buying Hazard this summer I don't think. Don't think it'll be a huge money striker like Falcao, just a solid back up option to help with depth, especially in January when Gervinho and Chamakh are off to the ACN.

That all depends on if Bendtner is sold, which I think he will be.

I think Clichy will be sold. Nasri not sure about, Wenger is meeting with his reps in the next few days, should know more by next week. What we do know is that the club wants to keep Nasri and will do everything they can to keep him.

Bendtner will be gone. Same with Rosicky if someone comes in for him and Almunia as well as Denilson if we can offload him.

Arsenal Chief Exec "open" to safe standing

Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis has told supporters he is “open” to the possibility of safe standing areas at the Emirates Stadium and acknowledged the positive impact it could have on atmosphere. The comments came at a Q&A organised by Arsenal Supporters’ Trust last night (Monday 13th June).

“It is something that I have always been open to,” said Gazidis. “The more I learn about it, the more complex an issue it is, but viscerally it is something that I find attractive because it gives fans, a certain group of fans who like to stand who create the atmosphere, another way to be in our stadium.”

Gazidis said that, although there might be practical problems for some clubs in implementing safe standing areas, it was an avenue he was willing to explore. This is in line with Football Supporters’ Federation policy which argues that each club should be able to make its own decision. The FSF believes issues around cost and feasibility should be a matter for individual clubs, not for government, but legislation currently prevents standing in the top two divisions.

“Why would you be against that, if you can do it safely? There are some issues, some very practical issues around safe standing; the rake of the stands and so on, that may make it cost prohibitive if it is not designed into the stadium at the beginning, but it is not something I am close minded to and I am prepared to explore it,” said Gazidis.

Peter Daykin, who heads up the FSF’s Safe Standing Campaign, welcomed Gazidis’ comments: “Ivan Gazidis’ views are really encouraging and proof positive that some of the most significant figures in the game are taking notice of our arguments. We believe we’ve already won the safety argument and this punctures another myth – that clubs will never engage with fans on safe standing.

“We will take advice from our friends at the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust, and ultimately see if it is possible to arrange a meeting with Mr Gazidis. He has some understandable concerns around feasibility but we’re confident in our solutions to these issues. Almost twice as many people can be safely housed in a rail seated area and we believe they will pay for themselves within a matter of years.

“The Safe Standing Roadshow – which shows how rail seats work in practice – is also making its way around the UK and we hope Mr Gazidis will welcome it to the Emirates. The Roadshow made its debut at Molineux last month and received an overwhelmingly positive response from an audience which included Wolves’ Chief Executive Jez Moxley and Stadium Manager Steve Sutton.”

Been a quiet few days with not much changing in terms of players coming in, or leaving for that matter.

Sandro Rosell has been yapping about if we ask for more than 40m euros for Cesc than Barca won't buy him. Now realistically, that should put an end to it all since it's well known that if we even wanted to sell him we'd be asking for more than that. Hopefully this doesn't drag on until near the end of August like last season, and I suspect it won't because there isn't the World Cup to delay things.

Leeds are apparently interested in Vito Mannone after they accepted a bid from Leicester for Kasper Schmeicel. Would make some sense with the rumours that Wenger is also looking for a keeper, and with Fulham apparently after Carlos Kameni just watch the Schwarzer rumours start up again.

In some other news the away kit will now have dark blue shorts instead of that horrid sky blue, thank god for that, and apparently plans for a white 3rd kit have been scrapped.

Roma director Walter Sabatini has apparently flown into London for talks about Gael Clichy. We reportedly value him at 10m while Roma's valuation is somewhere closer to 7. Can definately see us meeting somewhere in the middle and then going and getting Jose Enrique, who we have already apparently had preliminary talks with his people about.

Anderlect are apparently interested in Carlos Vela, while he also has a loan offer from Swansea and Real Zaragoza also monitoring him.

So apparently Samir Nasri and Arsene will meet this week about a new contract. While I'm still not confident whether he will sign or not, the fact that he is willing to meet tells me he is at least considering signing subject to the terms of the contract obviously. If he doesn't sign and he is sold, it will all depend on the price and who comes in for him. I can see us selling overseas even at a lower price just so he doesn't end up at another club in England.

Also reports that Jack is set to be offered a new 5 year 50k a week deal. Very happy with that, can't say he hasn't earnt it.

We are also reportedly still in for both Gary Cahill and Chris Samba, while I would love both of them I can really only see one coming in. We were also apparently interested in Jagielka but any deal would be put off because of Everton wanting a Joleon Lescott like fee for him.

Apart from that nothing else really major apart from Neil Banfield being talked about as a Arsene's new assistant once Pat Rice retires.

Apparently we've offered Nasri 90k pw and he wants 110k pw, we should just split the difference IMO. I thought Jack signed that extension earlier in the year..
The only way I think we'll get two CBs is if wenger plans on moving Vermaelen to leftback if and when Clichy goes. I still wouldnt mind us looking at Vertonghen as the LCB if that's the case.

One thing is for sure and that's that Vermaelen will not be moved to LB. If, like expected, Clichy leaves we will be buying another LB.

I can see us buying only Samba, simply because of Bolton asking for 17m for Cahill which is just ridiculous.

I not convinced I could see Wenger looking at Gibbs and Vermaelen and thinking thats LB covered rather than parting with money. I think if we move for Cahill it will be on deadline day, Bolton need the money and wont want him to leave on Bosman next year and I dont think they be holding out for his full buyout clause on the last day. We should send Bartley the other way on loan.

Vermaelen at LB is a waste. He's our best CB by far and him and Samba/Cahill in the middle next year will be excellent, Wenger knows that. Wenger will go out and buy a LB because he knows he can't rely on Gibbs to stay fit, and I don't think he's ready to step up anyway.

Wenger would probably prefer Cahill, but isn't willing to pay over the odds for a guy in the last year of his contract. In the end I think it'll be Samba or Cahill or both if we get extremely lucky, there won't be any foreign CBs I don't think because Wenger wants someone who can come in and do a job straight away.

I agree about Gibbs and to vermaelen to an extent. We don't seem to be getting linked with many LBs these days compared to a few months ago it's very quiet. Enrique from Newcastle is the only one I've heard recently. Clichy (while I'm no great fan) is going to be hard or at least expensive to replace.

We haven't been linked with many because tbh there isn't many around to buy. Enrique would be the best option, and is the one I think we will go for, with maybe Bendtner used to haggle the price down a bit.

The other thing with Vermaelen at LB is it means we would have to buy 2 new CB's, but with buying a new LB it means only getting 1 CB is no disaster.

"We have started talks with Gael and want him to stay," said Wenger.

I wonder if its a ploy to get his fee up or has wenger worked out that replacing him will be too difficult/expensive? If we are only going to get a low amount like 5m for him it might be in our interest to let him see out his contract and hope that Gibbs and Botelho can step up over the next 12 months rather than over paying for a overrated replacement.

Botelho I think will end up as a left winger eventually, or could be like Ashley Cole who started out as a left winger but then ended up a LB.

As for Clichy, it's Wenger, so of course he'd like to keep a top class player like Clichy rather than go and spend money on a replacement.

Hes much better defensively as you said. He keeps the ball well, tackles and intercepts it well, but there is a reason why he faces twice as many high balls as any of the other better leftbacks in the league and its not cause hes a defensive rock, its cause it works (maybe its unfair because Sagna is, so he is targeted more). Hes not a bad player but just not a top LB, I agree that he doesnt offer a lot going forward. Top left backs can do both. But like you said there arent a lot of options unless you spend big money and Gael can do a job, so Id rather it was spent elsewhere.
