Given the circumstances, a brilliant window for you lot. I'd wager you'll get Martin, Hazard or someone else in January, too.

Yossi a decent pickup for a year as an extra body in midfield who can cover multiple positions when the injury plague sets in

So I go to sleep and wake up to find that we've bought 2 more plays. That feels so good.

Per Mertesacker completes Arsenal move

Arsenal Football Club has completed the signing of Germany defender Per Mertesacker on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

At 26, the 6ft 6in centre-back has significant experience at both club and international level.

Mertesacker has enjoyed eight seasons in the Bundesliga - five with Werder Bremen and three with Hannover 96 - making 221 league appearances in total and finding the net on 19 occasions.

The former Werder Bremen captain also played 53 times in Europe for the Green-Whites, including the 2009 Europa League Final. In 75 games for Germany, Mertesacker has helped his country to the Semi-Finals of the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and to the Final of the 2008 European Championship.

“We are delighted to welcome Per Mertesacker to the Club," said Arsène Wenger. "He is a German international with vast experience and strength and is good on the floor and in the air. I believe he will be well-suited to the Premier League and a tremendous asset to the team.”

Mertesacker said: “I had a great time at SV Werder Bremen and I’m grateful to the club. Moving to London enables me to fulfil a dream and a further step in my career. The Premier League has always represented a great challenge for me.”

Mertesacker will wear the No 4 shirt for Arsenal.

Arsenal agree loan move for Yossi Benayoun

Arsenal has confirmed that they have agreed to sign Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun on a season-long loan deal.

The Israeli captain arrives at Emirates Stadium with a wealth of Premier League experience, having spent successful spells at West Ham United and Liverpool before his move to Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year old started his career in Israel with Hapoel Be’er Sheva, before sealing a move to Maccabi Haifa.

A switch to La Liga with Racing de Santander followed in 2002, before the midfielder secured a move to England in 2005 with then Premier League newcomers West Ham United. After excelling at Upton Park, Benayoun moved to Liverpool in 2007, scoring 18 goals in 92 appearances for the Reds, before his switch to Premier League rivals Chelsea in July 2010.

Everyone at Arsenal wishes Yossi every success during his time with the Club.

Arteta joins Arsenal on a four-year deal

Arsenal has confirmed that they have agreed to sign Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta from Everton for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old arrives at Emirates Stadium on a four-year deal with a wealth of Barclays Premier League experience, having been with the Merseyside outfit since 2005. After starting his career as a trainee with FC Barcelona, Arteta was loaned to Paris Saint-Germain before making his name in the Scottish Premier League with Rangers, where he was a member of the domestic treble winning side of 2002-3.

A year long spell in Spain with Real Sociedad followed before he teamed up with David Moyes’ side, initially on loan, in 2004-5. The Spaniard went on to score 28 goals in 174 Premier League appearances for the Toffees.

Arteta has represented Spain at Under-21 level, but has not played for the senior national team.

The deal is subject to the completion of formal registration processes.

Everyone at Arsenal wishes Mikel every success at the Club.

SO in the end our summer business is like so

OUT: Cesc, Nasri, Clichy, Bendtner(loan), Vela(loan), Traore, Lansbury(loan), Sunu, Campbell(loan), Pedro Botelho(loan), Eboue, Bartley(loan), JET, James Shea(loan), Denilson(loan)

IN: Arteta, Benayoun, Mertesacker, Santos, Park, Gervinho, Chamberlain, Jenkinson

Pretty happy with that, especially our business in the last 2 days. Never in my wildest dreams on Sunday did I think we'd be here 3 days later with 5 new players, and all quality, and in the case of all of them except Arteta, experienced internationals.

It's inevitable to weaken when you sell someone like Cesc Fabregas, but we've done well to strengthen defensively with Mertesacker and Santos and in the midfield with Benayoun and Arteta, and upfront with Park. The best thing about it is all bring experience to the table and all except Arteta are experienced Internationals. A good summer in the end, to bad it had to wait until the last 2 days of the window

Let's not forget, we've got another 30 odd million in the bank to spend in January.

Some reinforcement then to help stop the annual 'bottling it' and we can challenge for the title I reckon.

If there's one thing gooners know about Arsene, it's that he gets the very, very best out of his players. I reckon Arteta will be outstanding this season.

everyone said young to manu was a waste of money now they are eating their words. theres no reason why arteta cant do the same.

i think arteta is great simply because he had 161 prem appreances. more than the rest of the team.

We have very much stabilised the ship with these experienced signings. Gives us a good base to start rebuilding from(yet again). When we finish in the top 4 for a 15th straight time we can bring in a Hazard or Goetze.August and September are the traditional write-off Arsenal months, compared to the December-January calling us title contender months before the invariable top 4 finish.

I've got a sneaking feeling Arsene was gambling on Cahill not being sold and going back in January with a massively cut down price to give us 4 top quality CB's.

The one thing people can't criticise us for is not having experienced players for the younger ones to learn off. We've rectified that this summer.

Does anyone remember losing 6-1 to the mancs about a decade ago and then a wave of new signings followed and we won the double a year or two later?

History to repeat itself?

Some interesting Arteta stats.

- Mad 53 key passes(led directly to a goalscoring opportunity) last season. 24 from set pieces and 29 from open play.
- Made 1474 successful passes last season, more than any Arsenal play bar Jack, at a success rate of 87%, also higher than any Arsenal player.
- Msde 171 crosses last season, at a success rate of 33%, which is higher than Nani, Ashley Young, Florent Malouda and Stewart Downing who all made a similar amount of crosses.
- Tackle success rate of 71% last season.
