FT 1-1. Before the match I'd have taken that, but to concede a goal as fucking excellent as that after defending and laying so fucking well in the 2nd half can't help but hurt.

An absolutely belting strike there from Perisic, and you can't help but feel a lil dejected after that strong defensive and scrambling showing away at BVB. With a few more matches that will see Song, Gervinho, Santos, Arteta and gervinho battle hardened, I think we will be ominous.

Special mentions to Koscielny, Song, Sagna and Szczesny who were fucking immense in defense. Just excellent.
Also, Yossi has earned a place in my heart after that performance in the 2nd half. Did not stop working the whole 45 mins and was so good on the ball.
Was so fucking good to see us defend as a unit, can't remember the last time we did that. Was also good to see Song play as an actual defensive midfielder in the 2nd half, he was nothing short of brilliant.

Quote: Reserves: Arsenal 3-3 Bolton By Joe Brewin at the Lancashire County Ground Arsenal Reserves battled from behind to take home their share of the spoils thanks to Luke Freeman’s late equaliser. The substitute finished off late in the game to give Neil Banfield’s side a point, after David Ngog’s brace looked to have handed Bolton victory. Sanchez Watt and Oguzhan Ozyakup had twice given Arsenal the lead before they were pegged back both times by an experienced Bolton side. But Freeman struck late to hand the Gunners a hard-earned draw. Banfield had a handful of first-team squad members at his disposal with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Carl Jenkinson, Ignasi Miquel, Ryo and Francis Coquelin all starting in Lancashire. Bolton fielded an experienced and eye-catching line-up, with familiar Premier League faces in the likes of Stuart Holden, Ngog and Tuncay among the names on John Henry’s team sheet. On a wet and blustery evening in Lancashire it was the Gunners who carved out the match’s first meaningful opportunity early on. Watt’s delicate ball through the middle found the onrushing Ozyakup, whose eventual effort was saved well by Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan. Banfield’s youngsters went close to finding the breakthrough on 11 minutes when Ryo’s fierce drive on the angle flashed narrowly wide of the far post. The young Gunners were beginning to come into their own, but at the other end Damian Martinez had to be alert to beat away Gael Kakuta’s dangerous cross. Arsenal continued to hold their more established opponents at bay, and duly got their reward in the 19th minute through the excellent Watt. The forward latched onto Ryo’s neat back-heel and shrugged off a challenge inside the area before applying the required finish into the bottom corner. Summer signing Oxlade-Chamberlain began to show just why Wenger was persuaded to capture his signature from Southampton, catching the eye with an energetic display on the right flank. Despite the goal the hosts began to take a foothold on the match as the half wore on, and the Gunners twice had goalkeeper Martinez to thank for keeping the scoreline level. The Argentine was on hand to first tip away Tuncay’s curling effort with a stunning save before arriving to the rescue once more from Robbie Blake’s venomous free-kick. But Bolton did soon draw level through former Liverpool man Ngog. The striker latched onto a ball through the middle before finishing neatly past Martinez. The goal should have sparked the home side into life, but instead it was Banfield’s youngsters who took the initiative to regain the lead before half time. Watt was involved once more to capitalise on some slack defending and tee up Ozyakup, who made no mistake of firing the ball home past the helpless hand of Bogdan. As the players emerged for the second period the wet conditions persisted, and it took just two minutes before Bolton levelled things up once more when Tuncay hammered home from close range. The goal may have dampened the mood in the Arsenal camp, but there was at the least the continued battle between Miquel and Ngog to keep the spectacle interesting. But Ngog, who had largely lost the duel for much of the evening, managed to pounce once more for his second - and the Trotters’ third - goal of the evening. Banfield’s young team battled to find a route back into the match after losing their lead, and eventually reaped their rewards late on when Freeman struck in the 85th minute. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s blistering run down the right side resulted in a fine cross into the penalty area, allowing Freeman the opportunity to finish off for the Gunners. The point sees the Gunners rise to the top of the Reserve League South. Next up is a home clash against Blackburn Rovers in just under two weeks’ time. http://www.arsenal.com/match-menu/3424215/reserves/bolton-res-v-arsenal-res?tab=report

A draw with the German champions at one of the most intimidating grounds in football while going through a bad patch with confidence at an all time low? Terrible result (!)

Bit frustrating conceding like that but credit where credit is due was a cracking strike. I think Dortmund were more than good value for a point.
Yossi was superb imo as was Song. Arteta was a bit of a passenger for mine but maybe that's because we were on the back foot for the majority.
In the end not a bad result in what will no doubt be the most difficult game in the group stage.

Was gutting to concede like that considering how fucking excellent we were defensively in that 2nd half.
In the end a draw was a fair result, because we didn't deserve to lose after how we defended, and I don't think Dortmund deserved to lose after how they played tbh.
Before the match if you'd offered me a draw I'd take it in a second, so can't be disappointed.

That goal was a fucker. My word, volleys like that only come along once every 700 years. Well done Perisic. Already a contender for goal of the competition.
Very special, considering how tight that defence was.

Thoughts on his contribution as a whole in this match, as well as how much we think he is going to play (# of starting opp's...) and contribute throughout the season?
fixed YT
Ok, maybe not

It's hard to judge how much game time Yossi will get this season, because with everyone fit he'll be on the bench. Think he will get a fair bit of game time though.
Was interesting to see that Arsene yesterday refused to rule out signing him permanently.

The other interesting thing is that buying him wasn't as panicky as everyone made out to be. We made contact with Chelsea 8 days before the end of the transfer window and he wanted to come then, but it only went through so late because Chelsea only wanted to let him go once they bought Meireles or Modric.

Oh Cesc, what a man. Here's what he is quoted as saying the Spanish paper Sport. Quote:"I needed a change in my life, that's the truth. We weren't winning any titles and it was very frustrating for me. I didn't feel like I was developing anymore as I should do.
"I want to be in a club that is able to win the big titles year after year and I don't see that kind of future for Arsenal. I still have many feelings for Arsenal but I fear that they won't be able to push the other big clubs in England away. If you look at the team this season I can't see them finishing in front of teams like Manchester United or City. Or Chelsea. There's just too big a difference between the squads.
"I respect that Arsenal doesn't have the same financial opportunities as the others but it was part of my decision to leave that I find it hard to see Arsenal winning Premier League or Champions League in a near future. I hope they will replace me and the others that have left with some quality players and maybe they can take Arsenal back to their level as champions." And here is his reply on twitter Quote:" I'd never speak 1 bad work abt AFC, here there's once more prove that so many people put in newspaper wtv they want and its not professional," he tweeted.
"I want Arsenal to be succesfull as much as every single fan. Thats not why i left, it was never in my mind. AFC made me who i am today. And nobody will ever change that.
"I never gave any interview away since my press conference at my presentation and there i just said the truth and what came out of my heart. Great words abt this great football club cause that just what they deserve: succes and trophies.
"People can h8 me 4 leaving or remember that i gave my all for the club. But me talking 1 bad word or saying smthng against AFC will not (be) seen." =d> =d>

He left Chelsea BECAUSE he was going to be a bit part player - and he moved to try and get regular football. Well, that is my logical assumption at least.

If he came to us thinking he wasn't going to be a bit part player off the bench, well then he's got rocks in his head  He won't be getting a huge amount more gametime at us, than he would've at Chelsea, and nothing different to that has ever been indicated. He's only played now because of Wilshere and Ramsey out injured. You look at the clubs he was linked with on deadline day, Arsenal, Liverpool and Sp*rs. He would be a bit part player off the bench at each one. Edited by sydneycroatia58: 16/9/2011 01:35:54 PM

I was curious watching the highlights of the Dortmund match that after people were going on about Mertesacker not being fast enough, that he wasnt being caught out, Koscielny was, and alarmingly so.

I wouldn't really say he was alamringly caught out. He was only really caught out a couple of times in that first 15 or so mins, but after that he was fucking brilliant, and easily one of our best along with Song.

The thing is, those quotes that he apparently didn't say, even if he did he is 100% true. So even if he did say them it's not worth getting angry at him over.

I think this weekend we will go with the Same, or very similar XI to the Dortmund game, and then they will be rested for the Shrewsbury game. I'd be surprised to see anyone who played against Dortmund play against Shrewsbury.
