Jovetic would end up being what they've lost from the decline of Arshavin.

Wenger seems fixated on this AM on the wing idea, with Arshavin,Benayoun,Ramsey and now Cazorla laying there. If we were to get him, I exect something like this: Shez Jenks-Koscielny-Mertesacker-Gibbs New DM-Arteta Walcott-Wilshere-Cazorla Jovetic

I dunno how he'd handle being left hanging as lone striker.

I would be over the moon with either of Jovetic or Higuain. Both would be a dream but obviously won't happen

Shava was rumoured to be on sevilla's radar . Didn't he want to stay in England because he wants British citizenship for his kids ?

Sad that Shava never turned out as we hoped, especially after how postive he was in that first 5 or so months after he moved here
Oh well, we'll always have these to remember

Don't think I'll ever get over that Barcelona goal. Such an excellently worked counter-attack. Particularly the one touch stuff from Jack and Cesc. The day Jack came of age.

Do you guys think we're actually serious about attaining a top quality striker this window?
It's the end of the season and we're all in that deluded state of optimism with transfers but I'm wondering if thinking we might actually secure someone like Jovetic or Higuain might be a little unrealistic.
- We have Giroud who I'm sure Wenger expects to have a better season as he adjusts to the PL. - We also have Podolski who has slowly been getting groomed for the striker role and started to play there at the end of the season. - Then there's Walcott who is apparently also being groomed to play as the number 9 in the long term. - And that's not to mention Sonogo who is close to confirmed.
On top of that, we just never make big purchases like these unless filling a void left by someone we sold.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think so far there's zero solid information showing that we are even interested in a striker like Jovetic or Higuain?

Podolski is not an option upfront, certainly not on what he showed playing there this season. I think we definitely need another option upfront. Way to many times this season we looked completely toothless

Then we still have Giroud who is expected to improve, Walcott and Sonogo.
Just sayin... Based on recent patters the best guess is that Wenger doesn't intend on bringing in another striker unless we get an incredible bargain.

Sanogo has played a grand total of 22 professional matches.
I would be beyond disappointed if we went into next season with only buying Sanogo upfront. We so clearly need another forward, especially if Theo stays on the right as expected. One if Jovetic ir Higuain would be exactly what we need.

I'm just trying to learn from my mistakes of getting my hopes up at the start of the off season when these usually baseless rumours start and always being crushed  It certainly would be far from any sort of surprise if we go into next season with just those three. Season before last we only had two strikers with one being very injury prone. Edited by neanderthal: 23/5/2013 02:00:51 PM

Also new emirates deal and incoming puma deal give him some dolla dolla bills

Like I said, the new Emirates deal (the old one was pretty weak) and the incoming Puma deal have given the club more room to spend as well as pressure from above to spend. With that said, we still might have a pretty low key window, because a lot of players Arsene is looking at will probably choose to go to stronger clubs.

I wouldn't say he is being 'forced' by the board to spend, rather they're just saying to him you've got the money, you can go and spend it on who you want without worrying about anything else, if that makes any sense

I have never gone into a summer so convinced that we will spend... not only the emirates and puma deals, the talk about 'getting top 4 to attract the best players' etc but also because wenger knows he has to and that he can.
We will have players come in but, like last year, I'm keen to see the business done early... not wait until we're priced out. Identify who you want, give a big offer then complete the details witht he player - simple. Too odten in the past we've gone in early, alerted others and then been priced out.

Next season has to be silverware - I can't cop the abuse anymore!

How exactly is he a mercenary? In the full interview he says something to the effect of not letting any club get in the way of getting the most out of his career. Although he didn't specify if "the most" was referring to money, glory or what. Either way he would probably leave for one reason or another in a few years if we got him. Bit unfair to call him a mercenary when he hasn't actually done anything to be called that

I more meant he was being disrespectful to Villa and he's only 22, surely spending 1 more year at Villa wouldn't kill him. Not sure if we need a character like that in the dressing room.
