What Arsene needs to do is loan Ramsey out to somewhere with a coach who will transform him into a Vieira-esque DM IMO. And/or buy Pogba. Or what about Flamini? I haven't even watched him since he left the Arsenal. Does he play DM nowadays, and is he worth a look?

No way Ramsey will be loaned out. Flamini has burnt his bridges here and I would much prefer Arteta over him anyway. Pogba won't leave Juve imo, and is more Song than Viera anyway.

The way I see it this is what we need in terms of transfers, in order from most important to least

Striker, Defensive Midfielder, Central Defender, Goalkeeper

Suarez, Fellaini, Williams, Cesar

These have been the top targets in those positions this off season. We get them we're a title contender. We don't then battle for 4th place it is...

Would cost less than 70m imo. I don't mean to re-hash this but if we had David Dein they'd be done already!

Can't see that. Already rubbed the Liverpool owners the wrong way with the 40,000,001 pound offer and after Henry's reply I cannot see him going back to accept that amount so you would have to offer 5-10m more for even chance of signing him (not saying he won't go for 40m just if he does it will probably be overseas). Then you have Fellaini who will apparently cost about 22m (reported Man U offer) and you have already reached your 70m before adding the extra say 9m for the remaining two.

Perhaps I'm being too lose with the term "World Class".

But I see him as probably the best DM in the premier league when he plays there. Being the best in a position in the best league in the world qualifies as world class by my definition.

You guys are dicks
I used the word DM because I was comparing him with Ginter who would occupy the same spot if regarded as a DM by Wenger.

Arsenal doesn't have a typical DM role but he would play along side Arteta taking turns of being the deep most midfielder.
I think he's close to if not THE best at that sort of role in the league.

A role he hasn't actually played in for a year and a half?

The best DM...Seriously? Ramires, Yaya, Barry, Carrick, Wilshere, Arteta, Gerrard, Lucas, Sandro, Javi Garcia, Diame, Schneiderlin... need I go on?

I woudn't call a few of those 'DM's' but they're as much a DM as Fellaini is.

He can't tackle very well and his reading of the game defensively isn't that great. He's more an AM than a DM.

It is spelled Kondogbia. I cannot see you getting Pogba unless that is the only player you sign and even then I doubt Juve or Pogba will want the deal to go through

I'd say he's more a CM. Still, I don't know whether or not he would be an upgrade on Arteta.

Arteta is a better passer, is more adjusted to our system and better at seeing and closing down passing lanes.

Fellaini is not an as good passer as Arteta is, but this isn't so much a factor when most of Arteta's passes are to the simple option. Fellaini adds physicality to lightweight midfield- Fellaini-Wilshere-Cazorla, Fellaini-Arteta-Wilshere etc. If paired with Arteta I think he could do a very good job, but that role would be much more like Songs/Arteta's than Flamini/Gilberto.

Well that conversation just expolded out of nowhere... It probably reflects the mood of us Gooners that just want business to get done. Hence my reference to David Dein.

Disappointed we didn't tie up Higuain or Jovetic - strangely we're playing/played them both this pre-season. Suarez will end up as a waste of time/energy cos Liverpool are adamant they won't sell to a rival. Which leaves us with... Rooney or more Wenger 'plucking from obscurity' tactics... which the fans have clearly grown tired of.

The fans demand (and the club needs to deliver on it promise of) World Class talent. Not World Class prospects or Big fish from small ponds. A proven top scorer from a proven top club in Spain, Germany, Italy or England. Not even Benteke, Lukaku or players of that ilk would cut it.

Higuain or Jovetic would have fit the bill perfectly.
All the remaining options that I'm aware of seem too like for like with Giroud.

At this point I wouldn't even mind if we just waited till the next transfer window and hope some better talent becomes available.
Till then just invest heavily in other positions and hope that Giroud has a better second EPL season like most strikers new to the league seem to do.

In FIFA maybe. But in the real world Fellaini is a much better option. Fellaini is suited to the EPL, handles the physicality well and can play anywhere in midfield he's asked to. He plays the DM role perfectly and he's superior in the air.

Fun fact: Gustavo has missed more Bundesliga games through yellow card accumulation suspensions than any other player in the last 4 seasons.
