Quote: Gerrard facing a month on sidelines Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could be out for three to four weeks with a hamstring problem. The midfielder picked up the injury during England's 2-1 defeat to France on Wednesday night. The 30-year-old will undergo a scan on Thursday night but Dr Peter Brukner, the club's head of sports medicine and sports science, confirmed the midfielder's injury was "significant". Click here to find out more! Dr Peter Brukner told the official club website: "Steven injured his hamstring last night. He's just been in for an early assessment here and it certainly looks like a significant hamstring injury. "He's just heading off for a scan as we speak and we should have the results of that tonight. "He's going to be out for a little while, I'm afraid. I'd imagine it could be three to four weeks." Gerrard limped off after 85 minutes of the Wembley match, to the disappointment of the club who had hoped he would play no more than an hour. England coach Fabio Capello said he had no choice but to stick with him because Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry had an ankle problem. Capello said: "We spoke with Steve and he said he would play one hour, but after Barry's injury we had some problems. "That was the reason he stayed on the pitch. If it's possible, the players will play the time we agreed with the club. "But Barry was really injured so we needed someone senior on the pitch because it was a really young team. He said he was good. We're upset about what happened to Steve, of course." Capello admitted Liverpool had requested that Gerrard should not play more than an hour. He said: "They asked that he can play one hour if it's possible. They can't decide how long a player plays with the national team. "If it's possible, he'd have played an hour. I understand why they're upset and I'm also upset. "The problem is that, when you play this game on Wednesday after a lot of Premier League, Europa League or Champions League games, it's possible there might be an injury for a player. The Premier League, every time, is a tough league for the players." Liverpool were disappointed to see Gerrard play almost 90 minutes of the friendly encounter but Dr Brukner remains philosophical. "If you put your hand up to play for your country, you've got to accept how long they want you to play for," he said. "There were obviously circumstances last night which came together to result in Steven playing for a bit longer than we'd hoped, which is disappointing but there's nothing we can do about that now. "We'll move on and work as hard as we can to get him back playing for Liverpool as soon as possible." http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~2224335,00.html

There'd be a few teams in Italy interested in him, especially for that price if it's true.

Also some unconfirmed reports that Pool have registered their interest in Niko Kranjcar who expressed his desire to leave Sp*rs earlier this week. Apparently valued at 4m.
All I can say is after watching him play this week against Malta, if Pool can get him for 4m and he consistently plays like e did this week Pool should snap him up straight away. Can play on either wing or in behind the striker.

Krancjar is exactly what we don't need. Another narrow wide player. I mean, he would be a good player to have, but I'd rather we spent our money on positions we need.

The advantage with Kranjcar is that he can play on both wings and just off the striker.

Quote:As Martin Broughton prepares to watch his final Anfield game as Liverpool Chairman this evening, he has written a message to all supporters in the official match programme.
This evening's game is my last home fixture as Chairman of Liverpool Football Club.
It was always my stated intention to stand down once the sale was completed and I am happy that the club is now in good hands.
This has been one of the most memorable experiences of my working life and I would like to wish Liverpool and its supporters every success for the future.
The last seven months have been a pleasure and a privilege for me to serve this fantastic sporting institution.
Everybody associated with the club can now look forward to an exciting future with the right owners and the club on a secure financial footing.
I am proud to have been your Chairman during this turbulent time and would like to place on record my thanks to all of you, for the support you gave me, Christian Purslow, Ian Ayre and all the staff during this period.
Liverpool FC will always hold a special place in my heart as a result of the relationships I have forged over these past months. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/proud-to-have-been-chairmanYNWA Martin. You'll never be forgotten for your achievements. Just remembering all those twists and turns brings back all those crazy emotions. I really hope the lads step up to bid them a fitting farewell. You're wrong. It starts in M and ends in S. And is Portuguese. The most influential central player for one of the biggest nations in the world. He should shine now he ias back in the middle.
No point looking at replacements IF players leave. Of course we MIGHT, but at the moment we dont.

Babel considering hasn't had opportunities under Hodgson so it's conceivable that Hodgson will let him go leaving us lacking depth on the wings

We already lack depth on the wings. Fanni is lined up for Johnson, even if Dagger goes we still have Kelly, Carra, Skrtel, Soto, and Wilson who can play CB, and Poulsen isn't going anywhere.

another reason to go for Krancjar, we lack quality depth, he isn't the wide man that we'd like but he's an option that is available, Liverpool lack creative players, doesn't matter where they are on the pitch, we should be looking to players that can unlock defences. It's the reason why we went for Joe Cole, a creative player that can assist Torres and Gerrard... Maxi (you know my standing point on him) isn't a creative player that has the quality to win you a match (yes he scored against Bolton but that as more because of Torres' exquisite flick that Maxi's finish)... maybe i'm too obsessed with this creative problem to look at things objectively, but he's a good option that can be used on either wing or through the centre like he was used at Pompey and has been Modric's understudy at Tottenham... maybe the age thing, at the age of 26 and how the NESV rhetoric has emphasised 'youth' with there transfer policy, i don't know how restrictive they are with this policy but Joe Cole wouldn't have been signed if NESV were in charge in the summer.

I wouldn't mind signing him if it is cheap - but he is not the player who will turn our season around.

Ok, the guy isn't a world beater, and has his faults. But considering the amount of players Roy has tried, I'm really surprised that Babel hasn't been given a go.
