Even under Woy he did ok. But again, with the mobility and movement off the ball under Kenny, he has taken another step up. He has runners to whom he can give the ball, and his passing accuracy is fantastic.

He sucked under Roy's 4-4-2. The other two couldn't work out what to do with him. Maxi would end up coming inside to cover, Lucas would be forced either back or to the side and leave space for people to walk into. Hence the contention that he wasn't great defensively.

In other news, I'm still waiting for the final appointment of Kenny. And some money to spend. Too many years without our prize has started to grate on me.

I'd be interested to see just how much money Kenny is given to spend in the summer if he's kept on.

Liverpool today confirmed midfielder Lucas Leiva has signed a new long-term contract at Anfield.

The 24-year old, who signed for the Reds in July 2007, has put pen to paper on a new deal which secures his future with the Reds.

Director of Football Damien Comolli said: "I am very, very pleased. We have been talking for a few months now, ever since I arrived at the club.

"One of the first things I did after I arrived was to look at the contract situation and to see where Lucas was at. I knew we had to do something quickly because we couldn't afford to lose him and didn't want to lose him.

"If you look at his playing record he started 46 games last year in all competitions and this year it will be between 45 and 50. He is exactly what we want. He has the right mentality, quality and attitude. He understands what this club is all about and even though the discussions went on for quite a long time he always said to me 'I want to stay and we need to find a solution'.

"Considering his performances on the pitch with us and with Brazil, and his attitude around the place - off the pitch he's a great professional, totally committed and dedicated and it's always team first when you speak to Lucas - that's why we wanted him to stay. The celebration at Sunderland with the players after he'd had his baby shows that the other players were very happy for him and shows he is a team player.

"He could have gone to many clubs because he is highly rated around Europe, but he always said he wanted to play for Liverpool."

After securing the transfer window signings of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in January, Comolli insists today's news is a further example of the Reds moving in the right direction.

"This shows stability," he added. "What we did during the window showed ambition and what we have done with Lucas - and other players we are talking to - shows stability. We want to keep the core of the players we have who are performing and performing well."

Manager Kenny Dalglish was equally as pleased that his Brazilian midfielder had agreed a new deal.

"We are delighted," said the boss."He is a smashing lad to have around the football club but he hasn't been signed for that, he has been signed because of what he does on the pitch. Certainly since I came in he has been a great asset to the team and has done tremendously well.

"He's got wee Pedro to look after and now a new contract as well, and we're delighted for him because he's a really honest, genuine fella and that's reflected in the way he plays.

"He's happy to be here and play for the club and he's getting everything that he deserves at the moment - including being a fixture in the Brazilian team - because of what he's done on the pitch."

Great deal. Now we just need to sort out Kuyt's contract. Looks like Moussa Sissoko could be anfield bound at the end of the season too.

They could've gone about it a different way, and they made some downright stupid comments in that interview, but in a business sense I understand where they are coming from. Honda, Kagawa, Lee.... I can't think of many others who we would want to sign....

I can see where they're coming from. But I don't think that we should be signing players just because the sponsors say so. It worries me that we're being put under pressure to sign a player like that.

That said, I'd have no objections to the club signing Keisuke Honda, I think the lad is superb.

Isn't the sponsor's place to comment, but yeah can definitely see where they're coming from, any player really from a smaller footballing country where said player is one of the biggest players in that country is going to boost shirt sales and the like. Wasn't Honda linked with Liverpool at the start of the season as well?

Honda was linked with us, but CSKA wanted 16m for him. Too steep.
The sponsors job is quite simple, shut up, give us money and get advertising. Where that advertising exposure comes from should be none of their business as long as they get it. I can see what they're aiming for but reall they should fuck right off out of football matters.

Surprised that he topped Wilshere. I don't think Nasri's 'improved' so much as 'returned to the level he's capable of'.

I don't think Wilshere should be there. Can you really call your first season an improvement. What exactly are they improving on?

Nasri I'd agree with being there though.

Wilshere's gone from making a smattering of sub apps last season to a regular starter this season, I'd say that's an improvement.

The thing is it's not like he's had bad seasons to improve on like Lucas has or not living up to potential like Nasri has. That's why I don't really see it as an improvement, more just coming of age.

Another shit penalty decision cost us points. But don't let the truth get in the way of your fantasy land, Guest. Meanwhile, your unwarranted, biased and well, unfair comparisons between Hodgson and Kenny roll on for what, the eighth time in eleven weeks? While you were fucking quiet when we beat United, weren't you?

Btw, is that ANOTHER post in the Liverpool thread? Don't you have your own club to comment on? Why don't Newcastle re-sign Graeme Souness? He had a better win percentage than Woy, he must be good.

Fuck off, you're worse than seriously.

RUBBISH. Reina's legs clearly went through Odemwinge as they swung round, was a dead set penalty whatever the commentator said.

I guess you can add a 'very different West Brom' to the teams that Kenny has lost to :d

No way was that ever a penalty. Not in a million years. The keeper has come out for the ball, won the ball and Odemwingie has hit the turf after losing the ball, Reina hadn't even touched him when he went down. If that's a penalty then I'm done watching football.

LOL are you for real!? Am watching the replay on the highlights show now, and Reina clearly missed the ball completely as Odemwingie checked the ball back with the outside of his left foot.

Yes, I thought the referee got a heap of calls wrong and it seemed like every 50-50 decision went Albion's way. I thought he could have pulled up a number of fouls on Carroll.

But still I thought WBA were the better team for the majority of the match. Their midfield was much more dynamic then ours, constantly supporting the attack and playing short quick passes. In comparison, I couldn't recall either Spearing or Lucas making too many forward runs. I was quite impressed with Danny Wilson though, i thought he had a great game under the circumstances. I really don't want too see Spearing start next game, I'd rather have a Lucas/Raul midfield combination.Raul was quite wasted on the flank. Oh and please no Soto either.

Full credit to Albion, they pressed us hard and crappy refereeing decision or not, they deserved their win.

Raul is wasted on the flank, and whilst Gerrard was out it was a perfect chance to play him centrally, but not to be. Stevie will be back for the next game, so:

---------Carroll----Kuyt---------
--------------Suarez (free role)----
----------Gerrard--Meireles------
---------------Lucas------------

Who knows Re: The back 4, not sure how long Danny and Glen are out for.
