Spearing made a couple of fine tackles and did a decent job screening the defence, but deary me he must improve his distribution.

I remember we said a similar thing about Lucas a few seasons back...but that said, some of Spearing's passes were awful.

Again we were awkward in the final third. More needs to be done.

Every time I've seen Charlie Adam play the past 2 seasons he's managed to fly in studs up on someone. Add him to Suarez and you guys have got a pair of seriously dirty players. Skrtel does a bit of that too but at least he's a defender and gets the bulk of his challenges right. The other two are scum.

Parker certainly won't...Suarez is very lucky to have picked up a yellow - a red or nothing would've given the match review panel the right to suspend him. And I reckon the FA would've added an extra game to the straight red.

Oh well, roll on Saturday night, let's see how Suarez handles 70,000 people booing him. Unless Dalglish keeps him in mothballs... should be a cracker.

Talking of Spearing.....

'He's a typical Liverpool player'
9th Feb 2012 - Latest News

Alan Hansen has praised the fighting spirit of midfielder Jay Spearing - and believes the local lad has all the hallmarks of a 'typical Liverpool player'.

Most Reds fans would find it hard to disagree after watching the 23-year-old cement his place in the first-team squad by turning in consistently solid performances this season.

Spearing's ability to slot straight back into the side, especially after disruptions such as his sending off against Fulham and injury at Manchester City, is what Hansen feels marks him out as a key part of Kenny Dalglish's squad.

"Just in front of the two centre-backs, Jay Spearing has done very well," the Scot told LFC Magazine. "He suffered the setback of being sent off at Fulham and then got injured against City in the League Cup after that.

"But he's always recovered from those knocks and come back stronger. That's the mark of a player for me. Every time you see Jay play, he looks as though he's been there forever.

"He's a typical Liverpool player: he gets it, he gives it, he always takes it and that's what makes it so difficult to shift him. For Kenny, it must be brilliant to have players with an attitude like that."

Hansen played 620 games at the heart of the Liverpool defence between 1977 and 1990 before going on to earn a reputation as one of most football's most respected analysts.

Writing in his column for LFC Magazine, he took time out to praise the budding partnership of Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel in the centre of the Reds' defence.

The pair have proved a formidable duo this season as Jamie Carragher has been forced to settle for a place on the bench in recent weeks.

Their performances mean Liverpool currently boast the second strongest defence in the Premier League, having conceded just two more goals than table-toppers Manchester City.

Hansen said: "The partnership between Skrtel and Agger is developing into one of the best in the league. There's a nice balance between the two; they complement each other so, so well.

"Everybody has always recognised that Agger is top class with the potential to be world class. He's been relatively free of injury this season and that has enabled him to prove it.

"Especially over the last six months, Skrtel has been simply outstanding. He's back to his very best. He's got the strength, the pace and his judgement in the air has been almost perfect. It's magnificent to watch when you see a defender like that so desperate to keep a clean sheet."

With Lucas out he's our only DM. I'd like to see him start against you guys. Defnitely has a future as a squad player. Low wages, doesn't whinge if he isn't playing all the team, plays for the shirt, can do a job if needed.

The guy has a heart the size of a watermelon, and an engine to match. It's just a pity that he's quite average. But he'll always be a useful squad player for us as long as he doesn't get greedy. I mean, he could go and be a starter at a lower-table team, but he'll have a better career with us anyway.

It'll still be good to look at him in 5-6 years time and he's got 100 odd appearances next to his name just filling in where needed. But you never know, he could have a Lucas-esque "I get it" moment and have a break out season.

Evra is a tool. You won a football game mate, yet you celebrated like your some sort of justified hero. Not Cool. The way he celebrated at the end was just stupid.

Evra was the one who made the game a joke, not suarez. If suarez doesn't shake your hand, leave it, be the bigger man. Instead, he reacted and showed he is indeed a wanker.

Now take this for what I am saying, not that I am a United fan.

First of all, opinion on the club and the way they have gone about things? Kenny and Suarez have not helped the situation. It is a relevant topic, not taking the piss.

Also, if Roy Hodgson put that sort of system out or the players performed like that under him he would have been slated by the fans, surely Kenny deserves a bit after that.

Couldn't believe it took that long to bring Adam on.

Yeah, he's a twat, but if we won Suarez's would've done the same thing IMO.

Poor result, poor performance, Brighton in the Cup next up, chance to turn things around.

Gotta say, the only one I was disappointed with was Downing. Absolute passenger, so poor.

I'm surprised Downing wasn't dragged at half time tbh, he was abysmal.
I think Liverpool played far too negatively here and Kenny got it wrong, I'm not really complaining though.

I understand the viewpoint, but Roy was slated for those kinds of systems at home to Bolton, Wolves etc. Not away to United. We're clearly the underdog and he played to try and stifle the game (and it worked for the first half). Jay was there purely to be on Rooney, but Rooney's quality shone through in the end. I didn't want Adam to start, he struggles with the pace of games like this.

Can't believe I'm trying to enter a rational debate with a United fan, but here goes:

I've got absolutely no issues with what Suarez did. Look at this way - You work in an office, you do something you perceive to be totally fine to this woman, but she claims sexual abuse or something, you get thrown out, leave without pay, massive investigation, nobody in the workplace looks at you the same again, you lose your job. Would YOU then want to shake hands and make up with this person, that in your opinion, falsely caused you so much harm?

I'm not saying Suarez is innocent because it is impossible to know - but in HIS viewpoint, clearly, this man has falsely accused him and caused him pain. Why would he want to shake his hand? I totally get it, and I have no issue with it. If he wanted to move on, that's his choice, but if he still feels he is innocent, makes sense.

Kenny is fiercely loyal and will back his man every day of the week. I'd expect nothing less and it's why I love him. The whole club statement saga etc, I admit some of it was poorly phrased, but yeah.

Kenny Dalglish wrote:
I'm sure people will want to talk about Luis Suárez, but he accepted his ban, served his suspension and returned. It's time for all of us to draw a line and move forward.

People are already speculating on the pre-match ceremony, but from Luis's point of view we have spoken to him and I know he will shake the hand of Patrice Evra and the other Manchester United players before the game

I have to say I would definitely be pissed if this was one of our boys and he had acted out after the club had stood firm and shown faith in him.

Imno I respect you are going to stand by your man here but do you see this as being a let down? If the shoe was on the other foot I'd be supporting the club and be pissed at the player who imo really let down the continued faith and support of his club.

Yeah, I am curious as to whether Luis told KD he wasn't going to shake it. That said - it may have a been spur of the moment decision (the photos/video from the other thread may have contributed to his decision)

I think Suarez's comments in the week make it pretty clear that it wasn't being accused that he was upset with, but the fact that Evra had the temerity to actually speak up about it. I mean how dare he.

The way some Liverpool fans have actually tried to defend Suarez and make it out as if this is all Evra's fault is nothing short of absolutely pathetic, and it is really sad to see. Used to have so much respect for Liverpool fans and Liverpool as a club, but not anymore for the majority after these last few months.

I'm gonna agree with Busby on this one. That first half was simply atrocious, no other way to put it. Forget all the crap about Suarez, I'm more disappointed that Kenny went with such a negative game-plan. I generally like the 4-5-1 formation, but when it's used like this it is very hard to defend from critics. The distance between the midfield and Suarez was simply amazing. The amount of times I counted Gerrard hovering just in-front of the backline was astounding! I thought that was Henderson's and Spearing's job? By playing that deep, he was denied any link-up with the forwards, effectively leaving Suarez isolated against United's back four. Kuyt and Downing were both anonymous, the only real attacking threat came from Johnson's marauding runs. Honestly it took a goal to get us out of first gear! Not good enough!

The other thing that really bothered me was that every time we had the chance to launch a quick counter, the Liverpool players never looked forward. Kuyt and Downing were most guilty of this although, to be fair, there was no real movement ahead of them.

This game almost mirrored the same fixture last season at Old Trafford. Liverpool struggling to get out of their half, no creativity and completely dominated by United, the result of poor tactics and a negative game-plan.

Oh and Stewart Downing can GTFO of my club! That was an appalling performance from whats been an appalling season from him!
