I suppose I'm keeping my head in check. TBH Soton still has the lowest GA at 19 incl our 2 just gone through :d BR since Christmas and the tweaks here and there now has the squad pretty sound - next back to Turkey to a memorable place :) hope SG gets a run.

7 wins and 3 draws in last 10 is a fantastic record - if we can keep this form up top 4 is certainly possible

Citeh first up coming up next @ home this weekend. 1st big one to deal with above - we don't see Arsenal till late March, United 1st week of April. In between could make or break it - lose a game or 2 to those further down the table but the same can happen to those with us vying for top 4 - going to be close right down to the end imo.

With Hendo, Gerrard and Lucas out we're a bit light in the centre
I assume Can will push up to CM and back three of Lovren Skrtel and Toure with Sakho out
Ibe and Moreno wide. Coutinho has been rested so probably Sturridge Sterling Lallana front 3.
Just need to grab a goal and we should be ok but we never play well in Europe.
Two wins (or a draw tomorrow) from next two games would be massive.

Hendo and Sakho have been solid - yes going to miss them. Looking forward seeing BR's reshuffle for the EU game. FYI - Besiktas has BA in doubt, their regular LB and CB are out suspended and playing their No2 keeper. Regardless will be tough, draw at worst please.

--------------Mignolet -------Lovren Skrtel Kolo Ibe----------------------------Moreno ------------Can-----Allen-------- --------------Sterling----- -----Sturridge------Balotelli
I'd really like to see us play a front 2, and this would be a great game to test it out before Man City

Take out Balo for Lallana and flip the 1-2 to 2-1 and that will be it IMO

Would've loved a europa cup run but lets look on the bright side. None of our top 4 rivals have euro competitions (presumably Arsenal as well) and historically clubs do worse after midweek european nights.
Sucks to go out this early, but its probably helped our top 4 chances.

too right ! :d =d> Very good game by both teams. Kompany was uneasy so much first half, once again he's their weak link at times. Hendo's goal was one of those you'll never forget then the Cout does it even better in the 2nd =d> Its 12yrs citeh not winning at Anfield :) Edited by M.L.: 2/3/2015 08:36:37 AM

Wow. What a game.
I know I'm biased but I really felt we deserved that win. First half we weren't amazing but we definitely matched them stride for stride.
After the first probably 5mins of second half we were on top. They didn't look too threatening and we really could have gone up a lot sooner. We were putting the pressure on. Hendo marshalling the lads and his high press forced so many turnovers.
Allen was the Welsh Xavi we thought he could be, so so good on the ball and starting attack after attack. So good.
Coutinho, Lallana always causing problems with running and touch. Markovic a disappointment.
Back three did well, Lovren after some nerves started to play out well.
Allen, Hendo, Lallana and Coutinho were all absolutely outstanding. Particularly Allen and Lallana for playing midweek too.
Roll on lads. Have to win now v Burnley to keep the run up.

Agree imno on your report. Got to give it to BR - the player rotation and tactics this game sure gained the result. Markovic is trying to do too much, release the ball sooner. The pressing was like last season. If only Lallana didn't come from offside putting in that fine angle goal. As we saw Lovren was hesitant - BR was screaming out to him "settle slow it down" into the first 15. I tell you Aguero was unlucky though - Mignolet hesitated as well coming out his attempt hitting the far post. Bring on Burnley as said.

Truly unbelievable that before this run of 11 games (8 wins 3 draws) We were BELOW EVERTON and 10 points below Man Utd
Now 2 pts below Utd. And 20 above Everton
Home to Burnley, away to Swansea and then home to United.... massive. If we can get two more wins heading into the Utd game and be right on their hammer (or above them)... that one is a real six pointer.
Away to Arsenal after that where I don't expect a win
But then home to Newcastle, away to Hull, away to West Brom and home to QPR. Chance to pick up some points there.
Just gotta keep doing the business.

RedKat wrote:That run though has so many banana skins I feel we will probably beat United but drop some points to Swansea or Newcastle or someone like that. Agree. someone will be our Banna peel. Hopefully we are in a good position when it comes and we are forth with room to move. Was epic game to watch. Though the back 3 did the job but were too shakey at times. but Mignolet was giving me heart palpitations! COME OUT AND CLAIM THE BALL!!!!! He had ample time in the first half to scoop up through balls but stayed home and hoped the defenders could tackle from behind and avoid the foul. Love to know what BR said to him at half time as he did look more in command second half but fuck me!

Glad I wasn't the only one having chewn my nails off re Mignolet :-s he can be so good and scary many times re his distribution, Lovren and others passing back and seeing Auguero running towards he many times I thought fuck he's cutting it too fine at times

Fantastic performance and a comfortable win.
That move from Sterling, Sturridge and Lallana in the first 30 seconds was absolutely brilliant.... magnificent stop by Heaton to deny us from going up straight away. He then made great saves again to deny Sturridge and Hendo.
We were always on the front foot but the first goal is crucial in games like this and thank you to Henderson for breaking the deadlock... brilliant technique on that strike and Heaton had no chance. His assist for Sturridge was also class. He's coming along in leaps and bounds.
Lallana, Sturridge and Coutinho kept pressing from the front and didn't let them ever settle which was crucial... Lallana is so two footed I genuinely don't know what his strong foot is. His ability to turn on the ball and be facing the goal immediately is a thing of beauty.
Sterling caused Mee problems and Moreno was solid down the left. Another good midfield display. Can is unstoppable and Skrtel looked assured. Lovren's distribution again poor, look forward to Sakho coming back.
Result was never in doubt, looked like we would make ground on United until Abeid/Krul decided to throw the points away. Annoying but if we keep the results up we'll be fine.
Great win lads.

Sounds like Sakho will be back for the coming Cup game vsing Blackburn, good news. SG's hammy sounding its recovered probably on the bench for the Swans game. Lucas remains a few weeks away from a return with Jon Flanagan, Brad Jones, Jose Enrique and Jordon Ibe also still unavailable for selection.

Can't wait til Ibe is back, probably 3 more weeks.
Sakho being back is good but wouldn't rush him v Blackburn if he isn't ready. Lovren or Kolo are fine.
SG needs to sit out and only be used when necessary. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Only question is when Lucas comes back does he came in for Allen, who has been excellent of late.
Lets play full strength v Blackburn and get a win, then it's the Semis and anything is possible from there.
Hopefully draw the winner of Bradford v Reading

Watched bits of it. From what I saw we didn't create too much (nor did they)
They were very very compact so we didn't have any space to operate in. Lallana (when out there) and Sterling had no impact wide. Balo looked good when he came on.
Can not great at CM, I think he's better at CB because he has time on the ball and can drive from deep.
Skrtel looked bad but I think he's ok.
Hopefully do the business in the replay.
