While the lad couldn't finish to well he was a threat going forward. So will be interesting to see how he is replaced.

Don't agree that he is/was our best player but agree that the funds need to be invested better than they have in the past. Sterling has massive potential but I don't recall that many times in the last 2 seasons where you can say Sterling won us that game or turned the game in our favour.

Admittedly he has huge potential but he sure screwed it past season after riding the wave of the SS show season prior.
Then he hardly did any wrong and was around picking up the crumbs or bouncing off one of them, heck he could do no wrong good supporting role.
1st half of last season he kept it together but as it got harder 2nd half he just went awol.
Maybe it was meant to be - cracks were appearing due to his rise playing NT etc,the press talking him up, our fans as well.....

Yep gotta agree with that. If it was Coutinho that was sold, then it would be similar, but Sterling wasnt the best.
What he was is quick on the wing. City will now have to somehow figure out how to turn that into more goals then he was providing at Anfield.

I think we did brilliantly to get 50m for him. We stood firm, we got every penny (well almost) out of them and have pretty much covered the cost of all our signings so far with that.

Sterling had some incredible moments of form but last season he didn't really light up the team. I think Ibe can take his status in the first team pretty comfortably and with Markovic now settled, Lallana hopefully going injury free and Firmino coming in I feel pretty comfortable without him.

He's definitely got the potential but I am a firm believer in the mental aspects being just as (if not more) important than the technical ones - I think his attitude will be prohibitive and he wont ever become truly 'world class'

He may win the league as a squad player at City though, but fuck him, if he didn't want to be here then I don't want him here either.

We got a great price just like we did Suarez last year (despite his fracas at the world cup). But this time the hole he left behind is much more manageable

Now need to bring in players of equal or better quality for equal or less than what we sold him for.

I'd be looking either at signing one high quality striker or sticking with balotelli one more year. I'm not confident that benteke is the guy for us but there don't seem to be to many other options out there.

Best of luck to him at city. I think it could be really tough for him now as he's really soured his reputation. I think he'll have a harder time being praised by the press now, and getting sympathetic referees to blow the whistle when he goes down (for fk/pen) now due to the damage done to his image, and the added expectation that comes with being sold for far greater than your actual worth.

I almost feel a bit sorry for city to be honest. I like them more than Chelsea or United. I feel a bit sorry that they would have to spend so much money on him.

Would be nice to see us (try to) sign Pedro actually. Very good player and would be able to be a guaranteed starter at LFC... Would be well worth $35m compared to Benteke imo....

I'm sad about this whole thing. Sterling was my favourite player at Liverpool for years, believed in him when fellow fans thought he was shit, we should loan him out to a championship side and proved to be a gun when we were going for the title.

At City I think he will excel playing among quick players like he did with Suarez and Sturridge and will have much more space than he was allowed last season when he was our main man.

That said, 49mil is more than I expected, though I'm not gonna say it's great business yet cause he could do well at City and benteke and firmino could be duds.

Well looking ahead, my boys tell me Firmino is a great buy for us. Look forward watching this guy over these next exhibition games just to see what he brings to the front.
I suppose same goes for Ings now being with us, hoping both of them settle in quick.

Honestly, if you take away the fee he's a handy player to have in the squad and should compliment Sturridge well.

The expectations on a 30 million pound striker for a team like Liverpool, with the recent history of world class forwards may prove to be too much.

I can see him being a very serviceable signing if Sturridge is fit. With Sturridge out, I don't think he'll do as well as he can (but of course in Football anything could happen and he could thrive).

I'm just unsure as to how Rodgers will play him. He's best on the counter using his pace and power, and not the type of 9 to make the runs behind that Lallana/Coutinho/Henderson love to play in.

Yes, he's shown on the counter he can cause havoc - BR's game is possession where he doesn't suit it seems but it can work as did with Suarez. Sturridge, we saw how well he can play off a runner but Sturridge surviving the whole season will again be a lottery - he's looking like one of those that are injury prone.
