So now he's retiring because he can't handle the Australian sledging? Well that's as stupid as the people who gave the Australians credit for sending Trott home too. Australia just wants to believe it's been their 'mongrel', their 'fight' and their 'Aussie battler' attitude that have been too much for these two and thusly ended their careers (or put on hold until further notice in Trott's case) - what a load of bollocks.

What's wrong with you? Have you lost all semblances of logic? If he's called out players for having their heads up their arses it's either in his own dressing room or his opponents. And either way it's a poor reaction.

Oh this just gets better and better. Articles today report his grandmother as blaming "Nasty Australians" for his retirement.

Edited by gooner4life_8: 24/12/2013 01:23:38 PM Accusing players of having their heads up their arses the day after you retire is hardly a sound course of action. And as for his grandmother laying the blame for his retirement on Australians. Well shit...that just makes him look like a princess.

At the end of the day, it's just fucking sad to see such a popular figure have to go in such a way. If anyone in this team deserves to be carried out on his teammates shoulders after taking 10 wickets in his final match it's Swanny. Will be fondly remembered by all associated with England cricket, no matter what the media will have you believe. Thank you Swanny!

Quality journalistic integrity there. Perhaps we should wait for his neighbours opinion as well, to get a full scope on things. Pity to see him go out like this, arguably the best spinner in cricket this side of warneys retirement. Murali lasting a bit longer aside.

They came here expecting a summer Christmas holiday and an easy series, but instead found an Australian team fired up as fuck. I love that we haven't just beaten them, but they have had absolutely no answer to what we've thrown at them. Suck it England (South Africa).

Jacques Kallis will retire from test cricket after the Boxing Day test against India.
Truly one of the very best of all time. Unreal to think that in 12 months we will have lost Ponting, Tendulkar and now Kallis. The end of a great era.

Kallis, in all seriousness, is probably the greatest 'cricketer' of all time. Incredible player, by far my favourite player since I first started watching cricket. He'll leave a legacy that I don't think SA will ever truly replace. Incredible.

I probably still put Sobers just ahead, but the fact that it's a legitimately tough decision shows that he is in the best handful of cricketers of all time. I mean Lara, Tendulkar and Ponting are known as the modern greats, and his batting puts him right next to them. Plus he was a world class bowler and one of the great slips. Unbelievable

Obviously Australia have been ruthless and we've been terrible but fuck me, losing the toss in all three (now four) tests has done nothing to help our cause

Unbelievable I think Kallis' bowling puts him just ahead, but yeah, they're both incredibly close.

Pretty boring match. England are scoring at a snails pace but aren't losing many wickets

I was there among the record crowd. Firstly, barmy army are rubbish. Whoever keeps talking them up should be strung, drawn and quatered. They were outsung and repeated the barmy army chant. Did like the flags though. RR of just over 2 an over speaks for itself.

For all the shit England got yesterday about their run rate, Australia has scored all of 14 off the last 10 overs. Their current run rate of 2.1 is worse than Englands 2.55 Fun fact: It's the first time all series that England have had a higher run rate. 7 out for 10 or less. Are the Aussie batsmen still hung over or something?
