quickflick wrote:The trouble is that Mitch Marsh is an even worse bowler than Watson. So for Mitch Marsh to play, it's impossible for Starc and Johnson to play in the same XI. That means that, even if both are fit, Johnson has to make way for Siddle. He just took Ballance ;) -PB

I'm guessing Australian cricket is alive again? Was an absolute destruction but we traditionally do well at Lords. Look forward to the next test match. Hopefully the poms will stop trying to take all the life out of their pitches to try and negate the fact that our bowlers are clearly better.

So we may have lost the Ashes, but at least we're not playing South Africa and facing Dale Steyn.

-PB He reached around to his right side with his left hand as a "reflex". Also /cric/ seem happy that Watson's gone. Swear that every time I watched him, he'd do something incredibly stupid.
For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

At his peak he was a pretty handy cricketer. He averaged 42 as an opener in tests, which is good. And his one day cricket ability is undisputed.
However I found him a very frustrating cricketer. He perpetually had an ability to do more, but almost always came up short. Even at his peak he failed to convert a lot of fifties into hundreds in tests.
I felt after Ponting lost the captaincy and Watson got dropped from the openers spot, he seemed to go on a three year long whinge. If I was playing test cricket for Australia I'd be thankful for every game I played. You could tell from his body language that he clearly looked like he didn't want to be there for the last 2 years.
