Ive found this test an engaging battle between bat and ball

I'm finding this a much more interesting test than the last two games.

Batting under the lights with a pink ball is obviously more difficult, but I think the low scoring has got as much to do with the fact the ball is actually swinging and the pitch is offering some seam and spin.

Nz now move a a player to deep point giving away an easy single
This is what australia did so well in their golden gen
Forcing field changes which leads to more pressure relieving singles

David warner tries to cut to deep point and gets a four instead of a single due to a streaky shot
But im enjoying the innings management

The leaves singles and aggressive strokes have been very well thought out from warner

Well i guess that counts as a quick single from smith

That false stroke probably generated by smiths failure to get off strike allowing nz to build pressure on him

A good wicket, not a road. It would have been a good, and I think a better test, if it was a normal test match. At the moment it is being marred by all this talk about not wanting to bat under the lights.

Even though it was a rubbish shot to get off strike the change in strike brings a poor ball and a boundary

The pitch is good, that lights have swung the advantage to the bowlers by too much. We are heading for a three day test match, it should be considered a failure for the concept.

I disagree. I would consider it a failure if the players couldn't see the ball, to the point of danger. That hasn't happened. Batsmen have mainly been dismissed by good swing bowling and dodgy techniques.

If anything, the pink ball has sort of replicated what conditions are like in a typical test match in England. It was not uncommon to see scores like this in overcast conditions in England or New Zealand before modern bats. Batting was hard and you had to work hard and bat carefully for your runs.

People have got used to this idea that test matches have to mean a minimum of 300 runs in each innings. That's crap.

Give me a three day test match and result and both teams in it for the whole match than that dire flat track ridiculousness of the WACA where you knew on day 1 it was heading for a draw.

I dont think that pitch was too bad nz played well as did oz
The ball wasnt exactly gun barrell straight the whole match. Some nicks didnt carry though which is a problem

Personally i like variety
Different skill needed in different conditions

Australia have played beautifully this innings in tough conditions
You will get unplayable deliveries and our style will mean the occasional false stroke but credit to the coaches and players
Job not done yet mind you

Was at the Shield today to watchTassie get thrashed by South Australia.

A guy I'm getting to know who is a former Shield vice captain was going through every Aussie batsman's technical weaknesses today.

He thinks by far the best technician is Kane Williamson in the two sides. He reckons Warner is too much of an eye player, as is Smith.

The local press is going in to bat for Jackson Bird for the Hobart Test against the Windies next week. Apparently, he is the highest wicket taker in the Shield so far. His rhythm looks good ATM.

Bailey was out to a defensive shot yesterday and was LBW I think. Looked good up until then.

I quite like the look of SA's Chad Sayers as a bowler. He was bowling with good rhythm. I couldn't get any info from the experts yesterday about why Sayers was causing problems. For once they didn't know.

If anyone reading this is in Hobart next week, I can probably get you in to the members ( and ground) for free as I also have an associate TCA membership. My better half is joining me for part of one day and a mate another, but I should be able to work something out. PM me.

Bird is very good. I hope his Back holds up. I Would've picked him this test however They went with Coulter Nile today without Him playing a Shield Game this season. Scott Boland on standby. Boland has improved as bowler in the last 12 months. However imo he is the 4th best pacemen in Victoria behind Pattinson,Siddle,Hastings.
