This two referee system is such a joke, how you can have one ref a metre away from a tackle call out six again only to be overruled by some clown 20 metres away. (While they both missed the second marker not being square). :x

This, so much. I'm convinced that being a top grade touch judge is one of the best gigs in sport. They rarely have to make decisions and are usually backed up by the video ref anyway. So if the centre refs are making $80k or more per year (guesstimate), surely they're bringing home half that?? Pretty sweet weekend gig.

I watched 15 minutes. Of the 15 minutes 3 minutes was sport and the rest was 26 fully grown 'professionals' holding each other's jerseys like they actually intended on punching on.

THE Cronulla Sharks have sacked wayward five-eighth Todd Carney over his photo scandal on social media.

Board members decided in a telephone hook-up this afternoon to terminate his $650,000-a-year contract effective immediately.

Carney still had three year to serve on his contract.

The club will release a statement later today to confirm his dismissal.

The image emerged on social media of a shocking photo of the star player in the toilets at

Sutherland Shire nightclub Northies.

Carney could not be contacted today but Sharks chief executive Steve Noyce and his manager David Riolo had been in discussions.

Furious club officials unsuccessfully tried to contact Carney this morning for a ‘please explain’.

Carney had previously been sacked by the Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters for off-field indiscretions.

Todd Greenberg told Triple M on Sunday that he hasn’t seen the photo but said he has “heard a lot about it”.

NRL commentator Warren Smith says if the Sharks had not sacked Carney they may as well have shut up shop. Have your say at The Crowd.

According to Greenberg, the NRL has been in touch with the Sharks who are “discussing the matter right now.”

“Clearly I’d rather not be talking about these types of things,” Greenberg said.

“We’re never pleased to be talking about them.”

Even Carney’s biggest supporter, suspended coach Shane Flanagan, is refusing to stand by the troubled five-eighth this time.

Rugby league immortal Andrew Johns told Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show that Carney should not be sacked over the latest incident.

“Surely they couldn’t sack him for that,” Johns said on Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.

“It’s silly ... it’s stupid (but) he is only doing it to himself.”

The Sharks had only just found some on-field joy, coming back from a club-record 22-point deficit to defeat the Broncos 24-22 in Brisbane on Friday night.

The Sharks had gone the previous three games without scoring a point.

While we will not go into the details of the image, a response is expected from the Cronulla club and the NRL on Sunday.

This is the latest incident to impact Carney’s career.

The 2010 Dally M medallist was banned from playing in the NRL in 2009 after repeated alcohol-related incidents while playing for Canberra.

In 2009 he spent the year playing with the Atherton Roosters in the Cairns competition before joining the Roosters in 2010.

After two seasons with the Tricolours, Carney was released from the final year of his contract after he broke a team-imposed alcohol ban.

Carney joined the Sharks in 2012 — the same year he made his State of Origin debut for New South Wales.

- He then joined the Sharks in 2012, the same year he made his State of Origin debut for New South Wales.

- Late last year Carney agreed to a five-year deal that would keep him at Cronulla until the end of the 2018 season.
