99 Problems wrote:Was an amazing night. Thurston is a god. The way he fought to keep the play alive for the last try was exactly what he's all about. Never stops fighting. The love the crowd had for him was unreal, and that photo of him and his daughter on the ground after the game is one of the best ever.
On the game, the Broncos lost it by trying to defend a lead with 20 minutes still to go. They went into ultra defensive mode when just one more try wins them the premiership. Not sure if that falls on Bennett, Hodges or Hunt the most.
Grand finals shouldn't be Golden point. Yeah kicking for touch on every 5th is just retarded. -PB

As a roosters fan I never thought anything could beat the 2013 final.
When that 80min try was scored I went off my fucking trolley.

When that 80min try was scored I went off my fucking trolley. yer watching the game that last 20mins - cowboys just couldn't get over the line, kudos to the broncos standing firm thats for sure, they/bennett looking at the clock with 10 then 5 to go thought they had it, tasting it, especially the players, come 78th min would have thought we have got this in our hands just tackle fellas tackle. FFS losing it on the 80th minute  What a rippa of a try, kind of like origin qld style of the past, never say never watch me pull a bronco out of my hat Thurston must have thought. His sideline kick I have never seen a build up like it, didn't blame him the time he took, even to the point of telling media and the likes to move away as he was gathering his thoughts and breath, what a moment in his time as if he hadn't had enough of them already ! I'm a nswelshmen but I take my hat off for this guy, likaeble, does the job near on every time, has had his niggly moments but nothing compared to the many mugs we all know in the game. In hindsight the kick yet so close yet so far meant for another moment in his time, sure an opportunity presented itself thanks to Hunt but you got to take it when you can, some would have fluffed it, youthought they may have lost the chance afetr a few tackles but just as in the game, whenever there was a kick to defuse whilst broncs on the attack who was there ? Thurston countless times, his reading of the game is superb and that was just as the tackle count was soon to end, he got himself in position to guide it straight over the cross bar ! Great for Cowboys, Nth Qld and great for the NRL, it needed a new Champion club and a new young Coach - well done Green as well.

Can't wait for more articles about how the Bulldogs letting Thurston go is the greatest mistake by a club in the history of Rugby League

Yeah sure he was willing to take a paycut, that's irrelevant when the club didn't want him to stay, he was asked to leave. The media will paint the story they want of it because they won't dare damage JT's precious image. That's why in stories about how we let him go, you'll never see a story mention how he walked out on the club halfway through the season to go running back home only to come back to Sydney with his tail between his legs. The people of Townsville are delusional if they think that $350 million should be spent on a new stadium for a town of 200k people
The design needs to be drastically scaled back, all they need is a modern simple stadium, not an architectural masterpiece.

Im not against them getting a new stadium, but what they are asking for is absolutely ridiculous. Plus it would be great for when the A league potentially looks to put a team up there again.

Horse shit may not be the best to describe the point but there is a huge diff - TUNIT is right that per capita the return is obvious but in saying that I'm sure many wish for a nth qld team but will it survive if re birthed ? thats the big gamble no matter what you think.

It should stay golden point with the proviso that if a field goal is scored first the game continues for 5 or 10 (whatever) and if a try is scored then it's over. (Further field goals don't count.) Not sure if I've explained that well. Take the GF. Cowboys pot a field goal. Broncos now have the rest of extra time to score a try and claim the win. If the cowboys score a try after their field goal the game immediately stops and the cowboys are the winners. Think about how exciting it would be with the Broncos now knowing that there's no point taking potting a field goal and they have to throw the ball around to get a try. Forget 1 outs and kicks they'd be going hell for leather. Much fairer and would reduce the lottery aspect of field goal golden point. Little known fact: I attended the first Cowboys home game and still have the original jersey I bought signed by the great Marty Bella. HG and Roy used to call the cowboys backline of Bouveng, Skardon, Vowles the "rainbow connection". Taking the piss via a reference to the brilliant Cronulla backline of "sparkles" McGaw, ET and the other bloke I can't remember. (Sparkles, now there's a nickname.)

Just make it extra time like the old days, play 5 minutes each way, and if it is still level after that it becomes golden point.
On the stadium, if the government wanted to build Thurston a $350 million house I'd support it.

This. 5 mins for first half... then play to 5 mins in 2nd half... if there is a winner them game over. If not then sound the siren but continue til golden point. At least then everyone knows youve got "this long" to get back in the game if the opposition scores.

The only problem with that is if team A pots a field goal team B will then try and level with one of their own. It becomes 10 minutes of teams trying to kick a field goal. If it's tied after 10 then you're back to rubbish golden point which will likely be a field goal. (Which is what they're whinging about in the first place.) My version guarantees a better result.

The problem isn't kicking a field goal. The problem is you can lose the biggest game of the year in extra time without touching the ball. The issue would be the same if Thurston had scored a try instead of a field goal. You need a right of reply as the opposition. If they score at the end of the extra time well it's tough luck just like normal time. But when you concede 1 minute in and the game ends it just seems unnecessarily harsh IMO.
