Have used the gates game as part of a session for u9 and u11, setup main field 32 x24 with 2 end zones 8x24, on the main pitch setup 7 cone gates . Warm up, players each with ball dribble thru gates in 90 secs, then driblle with weaker foot only for 90 secs, sribble with any foot and perform turn at a gates. 1/3 of players stand in gates whilst others dribble and pass 1-2 with gate players, change gate players , then move onto pass to player in gate who turns with ball and is replaced by passer. Then took a SAP shooting game and reversed it , so that it had 4 defenders against 8 players , the 4 defenders cant pass but have to win ball and shoot in any of 4 popup goals in the middle of each side of the main field , the 8 have to maintain possession and get a point for passing to team mate thru gate. Changed to 3 defenders as they were too successful in winning the ball. Change the defenders around. Removed cones in main field. Moved onto passing to target player in end zone, one team had 2 target players to make it 4 v4 on main field. Target on receiving ball passes to the other team to start the play towards their target player. Finsihed with 6 v 5 on all the pitch with the team of 6 with keeper in one big goal against 5 who defend 2 small goals . U9 just the same apart from last game was 5 v 5 on main pitch with 2 small goals at each end.
