Minor premiers are the team that finishes first after 26 rounds in the NRL, because the team that wins the NRL Grand Final are called the Premiers. In football, its premiers for the team that finishes first, and champions for the team that wins the final.

In football first past the post are rightfully rewarded with a NPL national playoff birth or an automatic Asian Champions League spot. This is Major not Minor.

2 regular season games left in the FFSA NPL conference and the top 4 teams are separated by 1 point.
Very tight race but one of these teams will be in the NPL national playoff.

Adelaide Blue Eagles v Port Adelaide Pirates is the match of the round. Blue Eagles need to win to give themselves a chance at being NPLSA representative in the national playoffs and a possible quarterfinal matchup at home against NPLWA Bayswater City and Port Adelaide Pirates need to win to avoid the drop to the State League. Very tight at both ends of the NPL table.

They have just released the format for the npl finals and I have to say it's a complete joke, the final can't be held in victoria which is absurd, south are guaranteed to host the semi if we advance from the quarters but it's still stupid, what was wrong with the system they had last year where hosting rights was determined by goal difference/red cards etc?

southmelb wrote:They have just released the format for the npl finals and I have to say it's a complete joke, the final can't be held in victoria which is absurd, south are guaranteed to host the semi if we advance from the quarters but it's still stupid, what was wrong with the system they had last year where hosting rights was determined by goal difference/red cards etc? Is there a link to the details?

It would be hard on players to see the value travelling across the country for these games in early rounds. I dislike it but it is what it is and the reality these players are semi pro. One day maybe if we get a prom rele system.

Would imagine the final taking place on a Saturday as they wouldn't wanna clash with the nrl grand final the following day.
Really dissapointing that they have locked in the venues already, think we could have gotten a huge crowd if we hosted it...provided we are good enough to make it, the quarter final and semi finals will be lost in the shuffle with the FFA cup taking all the attention that week.

They have scrapped the fixturing and returned to the points system to determine where the semi finals/final will be held like last year. Good call imo, should encourage attacking football as well.

Still don't like the fact that the draw is rigged so that the same state champions play each other every year. Surely a 7 game tournament doesn't justify pairing up the closest states.

Quote:Australia is about to witness PS4 NPL football at its finest as the nation’s best face their Elimination Finals destiny this weekend. It's do-or-die, so do not miss a moment of the action. GAME 1 – Moreton Bay United v Edgeworth FC MATCH DETAILS Queensland Sports & Athletic Centre, Nathan QLD Saturday 19 September 2015 Kick-off: 7:30pm AEST Twitter: Follow LIVE updates at @nplqld @NNSWF Join in the conversation using hashtag #MBUvEDG Moreton Bay United squad: 1.Luke BOREAN (gk), 2.Matthew ZAPPONE, 3.Scott STEWART, 4.Alex HENDERSON, 5.Ryota NAKAOOKA, 6.Liam PREVITERA, 7.Jordan FARINA, 8.Matthew CAPELO, 9.Royce BROWNLIE, 10.Stephen GREEN, 11.Charles MENDY, 12.Samuel DICKINSON, 13.Joseph CHAMPNESS, 14.Scott DYKMAN, 15.Jayke CUSCHIERI, 16.Rowan HEGGIE, 17.Jackson HALL, 18.Chom AROP, 19.Jacob MITCHELL, 20.Jake CLANCY (gk), 21.Finn BEAKHURST Head Coach: Adam Piddick Edgeworth FC squad: 1.Jim FOGARTY (gk), 2.Bray SMITH, 3.Aaron MCLOUGHLIN, 4.Ayden BRICE, 5.Brady CARR, 6.Lachlan PASQUALE, 7.Bren ABBOTT-HAMMEL, 8.Joshua EVANS, 9.Brody TAYLOR, 10.Keanu MOORE, 11.Dylan HOLZ, 12.Brenton OLZOMER, 13.Aaron PRITCHARD, 14.Justin TANNOCK, 15.Patrick WHEELER, 16.Joshua CARROLL, 17.Domenico BIZZARRI, 18.Samuel MAXWELL, 19.Liam SPURWAY, 24.Benjamin SMITH (gk) Head Coach: Damian Zane BLUFFER’S GUIDE A state of origin battle of sorts awaits as the Queensland champions host the best from Northern NSW. It should ensure plenty of extra spice in this intriguing match-up at QSAC. Moreton Bay upstaged some big clubs in Queensland to surge to this season’s title and they will plan to ride that momentum towards national glory. Sunday’s gripping 2-1 PS4 NPL Queensland win over Brisbane Strikers is the start of what they will hope is a golden few weeks for the club. For free-scoring Edgeworth, they’ll head north with the benefit of an extra week’s rest and the experience against Melbourne City in the Westfield FFA Cup round of 32. And while they were narrowly beaten on that night, pushing a Hyundai A-League club all the way is sure to give Damien Zane’s troops a bit of extra confidence, while they also won their local decider 2-0 against Hamilton Olympic last week A few goals are likely at QSAC as two attack-minded sides do battle. Players to watch: Jordan Farina (Moreton Bay) Brody Taylor (Edgeworth FC) GAME 2 – Blacktown City FC v Canberra FC Lilys Football Stadium, Blacktown NSW Sunday 20 September 2015 Kick-off: 4:00pm AEST Twitter: Follow LIVE updates at @NPLNSW @CapitalFootball @BlacktownCityFC Join in the Twitter conversation using hashtag #BLCvCFC Blacktown City squad: 1.Nenad VEKIC (gk), 3.Giorgio SPERANZA, 4.Yianni FRAGOGIANNIS, 5.George TIMOTHEOU, 6.Matthew LEWIS, 7.Travis MAJOR, 8.Sasa MACURA, 9.Joseph GIBBS, 10.Christos TOMARAS, 11.Danny SEUNG-JOO CHOI, 12.Daniel ARAUJO, 13.Tristan PRENDERGAST (gk), 14.Mitchell MALLIA, 15.Sam PERRE, 16.Patrick ANTELMI, 17.Lewis BEUMIE, 18.Jonathan GROZDANOVSKI, 19.Zachary CAIRNCROSS, 20.Connor EVANS, 21.Yianni PERKATIS, 26.Eoin MONTFORD, 29.Patrick FLOTTMAN, 31.Juan ZAPATA Head Coach: Mark Crittenden Canberra FC squad: 1.Sam BROWN (gk), 2.Tony SPASEKI, 3.Christian PRATEZINA, 4.Thomas MILICEVIC, 5.Izach CLEMENTS, 6.Daniel SUBASIC, 7.Robert DEELEY, 8.Ian GRAHAM, 9.Thomas JAMES, 10.Muad ZWED, 11.Marko VRKIC, 12.Kye EDWARDS, 13.Daniel BENNETT, 14.Josip JADRIC, 15.Jordan LAMB, 16.Max MOTTL, 17.Aidan BRUNSKILL, 18.Alex LAZAROV, 19.Nikolas BARISIC, 20.James FIELD, 21.Niko KRESIC, 22.Shaun BURKE (gk), 23.Nathan EVANS Head Coach: Zoran Glabanic BLUFFER’S GUIDE For Blacktown City, they’ve been superb throughout the NSW NPL season, romping to the minor premiership. But they went down 2-0 in their grand final on Sunday in a disappointing way to end a brilliant campaign. And being knocked out of the Westfield FFA Cup at home – after being a goal up at the break – was another troubling sign in recent times. They’ll have to put that behind them quickly with Canberra FC heading to Lilys Football Stadium. The Demons will rely on their explosive, attacking talent to help them rebound and with a big crowd behind them at home they’ll fancy their chances. Like Blacktown, Canberra FC also have to recover from a grand final defeat on Sunday, as they were humbled 3-1 by Canberra Olympic. It’s the club’s second tilt at the national NPL crown, having been the ACT’s representative’s in the inaugural competition in 2013. Whichever side bounces back best from the disappointment of last weekend should come out on top in this one. Players to watch: Patrick Antelmi (Blacktown City) Daniel Bennett (Canberra FC) image: http://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Football_Australia/51/b6/npl-trophy_1wft8ssyh0o5h1580e0vtajao9.jpg?t=-741282568GAME 3 – South Melbourne FC v Olympia FC Lakeside Stadium, VIC Saturday 19 September 2015 Kick-off: 4:00pm AEST Twitter: Follow LIVE updates at @smfc @nplvictoria @olywarriors @FootballFedTas Join in the Twitter conversation using hashtag #SMBvOLY South Melbourne squad: 1.Nikola ROGANOVIC (gk), 2.Tim MALA, 3.Kristian KONSTANTINIDIS, 4.Michael EAGAR, 5.Luke ADAMS, 6.Thomas LAKIC, 7.Nicholas EPIFANO, 8.Mathew THEODORE, 9.Milos LUJIC, 10.David STIRTON, 11.Bradley NORTON, 12.Iqbal JAWADI, 13.Dane MILOVANOVIC, 14.Chris IRWIN, 15.Cody MARTINDALE, 16.Andrew BEVIN, 20.Nicholas MORTON, 21.Jake BARKER-DAISH, 22.Fraser MACLAREN (gk), 23.Andy KECOJEVIC, 27.Leigh MINOPOULOS, 77.Stephen HATZIKOSTAS Head Coach: Chris Taylor Olympia FC squad: 1.Sean LEWIS (gk), 2.Jacob HERBERT, 3.Harry WOOLLEY, 4.Shae HICKEY, 5.Luke EYLS, 6.Nicholas MEARNS, 7.Warren WADAWU, 8.William ROBERTS, 9.Emmanuel TSAKIRIS, 10.Gavin HOY, 11.Nicholas MEREDITH, 13.Christian DI MARTINO, 14.Jonathan GRIFFITHS, 15.Lachlan NICHOLS, 16.Jake VANDERMAY, 17.Alessandro BELLINI, 18.Jack CALLAN, 19.Stuart PAGE, 20.James ACKERLEY, 21.Spiros PARADISIS (gk) Head Coach: Glen McNeill BLUFFER’S GUIDE Redemption will be on the minds of South Melbourne after the ambitious Victorian club failed to make the most of their appearance in last season’s national finals. Chris Taylor’s side want to make a mark on the national stage again and this would be the perfect platform, with an automatic berth back into the Westfield FFA Cup next year at stake over the next three weeks. They head into this one after a heart-breaking grand final defeat in Victoria on Sunday, losing 3-1 to Bentleigh Greens after extra-time at Lakeside. But South will still start warm favourites against Olympia FC, although they would be foolish to underestimate the Tasmanian outfit. Renowned for bringing down the big guns during their title-winning season in Tassie, Olympia will head to Lakeside Stadium disciplined, well-structured and with nothing to lose. Unlike South Melbourne, Olympia were able to get the job done in their local grand final, running out 3-1 winners against Hobart Zebras. Players to watch: Nicholas Epifano (South Melbourne) Gavin Hoy (Olympia FC) GAME 4 – West Adelaide SC v Bayswater City SC Adelaide Shores Football Centre, West Beach SA Sunday 20 September 2015 Kick-off: 2:30pm local (3:00pm AEST) Twitter: Follow LIVE updates at @WestAdelaideSC @BayswaterCitySC @FFSANPL Join in the Twitter conversation using hashtag #WADvBWC West Adelaide SC squad: 1.Lewis MOSS (gk), 2.Milos TOSIC, 3.Lewis VALLELONGA, 4.Thomas VEART, 5.Robin LIPPETT, 6.Elias VLASSIS, 8.Kosta MANTIS, 9.Alexander RIDEOUT, 10.Ricardo DA SILVA, 11.Thomas BRISCOE, 12.John KARATZAS, 13.Matthew BOUZALAS, 14.Nathan ANDIJANTO, 15.Alexandros KOUTOULOGENIS, 16.Connor PAPANICOLAS, 17.Osman FOFANA, 18.Christian VERBI, 20.Tony HATZIS, 21.Daniel ATKINS (gk), 23.Mitchell NICHOLSON Head Coach: Paul Pezos Bayswater City squad: 1.Devon SPENCE (gk), 2.Declan HARGREAVES, 3.Aaron DELANEY, 4.Kostantinos SPARTA, 5.Ayden DRAGUN, 6.Todd HOWARTH, 7.Jamie MURPHY, 9.Gustavo GIRON-MARULANDA, 11.Corey BARCLAY, 12.Adam TONG, 13.Trent KAY, 14.Danny DIXON, 15.Brian FARRELL, 16.Jamie COYNE, 17.Bor Bor SAM, 19.Alex WILD, 20.Sam MITCHINSON, 21.David HEAGNEY, 22.Pasquale GIOFFRE (gk),23.Chris SALDARIS, 24.Patients ILAHAMBAYE, 25.Jason SALDARIS (gk) Head Coach: Chris Coyne BLUFFER’S GUIDE Chris Coyne’s Bayswater head to Adelaide on the back of an undefeated season in WA, winning an incredible 19 (with three draws) from their 22 league games. In their second straight year in PS4 National Premier League’s Australian finals, Bayswater have experience on their side as well as a squad with some A-League experience. In short, “Baysie” are on fire this year. But West Adelaide has also enjoyed a memorable campaign and will be hoping to emulate fellow South Australian club MetroStars who took out last year’s event. They completed the double on Saturday by beating Adelaide Blue Eagles in the grand final 4-2, with goals from John Karatzas, Tom Briscoe, Kosta Mantis and Alex Rideout. It’s hard to pick a winner in this one in what should be a titanic struggle at Adelaide Shores. Players to watch: Tom Briscoe (West Adelaide) Gustavo Giron Marulanda (Bayswater City) **In order to determine the host Member Federation and clubs for the semi-finals and grand final, the following points system will be applied at the conclusion of each stage: Win within 90 minutes 3 points Win during extra time 2 points Win on penalties 1 point Goals For (excluding penalty shootouts) 3 points Goals Against (excluding penalty shootouts) -1 point Yellow Card -1 point Red Card -3 points Read more at http://www.nationalpremierleagues.com.au/article/preview-ps4-npl-2015-elimination-finals/h2dcz1y7pp901igvbdc5pbmq9#2Su3jEsjDzkFxgpP.99 -PB

Edited by TheSelectFew: 19/9/2015 01:28:34 PM Watching the live stream, but they seem late to start. Interesting to see South Melb play at home, because they were very poor last year in Tassie. The feeling is around Australia, they that ACT, Tassie, and particularly Queensland, SA and WA are fast catching up to the Vic and NSW NPLs. Edited by Decentric: 19/9/2015 04:02:08 PM

Shocking defending South Melb.](*,)
Hobart Olympia 1-0.=d>
Why do those commentators have to suggest that Tassie teams are struggling for credibility?
Outside the big states there is a plenty of discussion about why Vic and NSW NPL teams are not better than they are.

I wonder how this will effect the NPLV and most importantly Souths rank in the Australian Club Rankings. Surely they will drop out of the top 10.

They will have 5 months to think about that performance, to create about 15 clear cut chances and only score 1 is unforgiveable.

Tassie teams especially Olympia will gain a lot.

Moreton Bay United 3 Edgeworth Eagles 1 (Final Score):
Points for Moreton Bay United: win in the 90 minutes = 3 points 3 goals = 9 points 1 goal against = -1 point yellow card = -1 point
overall total 10.

I'm not sure if Arthur is there or not? Yes was there interesting encounter, Olimpia early lead gave them the advantage of playing a counter attacking game leading to a second goal. Half time substitution and readjustment of the lineup saw South Melbourne dominate possession as Olimpia could barely get past the half way line. Countless chances missed, many corners wasted, and poor finishing led to a 2-1 lose for South. Impressed with Olimpia Goalkeeper for me man of the match. Defensively Olmpia kept their shape and depth. Epifano class act.

One of the things the patronising commentators said before the South/Hobart Olympic game, was that South consider themselves the best club outside the HAL.
Whoever said it, why?:?
Any club saying this is just going to provide other clubs with more reason to dislike them. Deeds on the pitch are the criterion for evaluation by the rest of the Oz football community.
In terms of 11 v11 players on the twitch, I haven't seen South play football as high in quality in different aspects of the compared to Jamey Harnwell's WA NPL team, SA's Croydon, Brisbane Lions, Bentleigh Greens or Rockdale (best team outside the HAL I've seen). This covers teams from all Aussie mainland states.
On the big stage, South seem to struggle when everything is on the line. There are probably South supporters who cringe at this, but for a team some talk up as the best team outside the HAL, it is not a good look.
When Hobart Olympic's Hickey was sent off , South look superb against Hobart Olympia when playing 11 v 10.
When the game was 11 v 11, it was pretty even for the first 25 mins. Then South got on top for the next 15 minutes before the stream cut out.
Theodore and the left winger, who trialled overseas, looked good in that stanza of the game. I was told during the game that South were missing key players. So were Hobart Olympic. Last time I saw them play, best on ground , Gustaffson, was absent against South.
With a nice little stadium, and a decent pitch, where were all the South supporters?
Only 1000 bothered to turn up to watch South play in the nationwide NPL Cup. :-k
When a Tassie NPL team plays interstate opoostion, crowds are bigger here I think. To their credit a lot of South supporters turned up to watch them play in Tasmania last year. Yet few more turned up to watch them in Melbourne.:?

Our captain Michael eager rolled his ankle 15 minutes before kick off, our best midfielder jawadi was suspended from last weeks grand final, and our keeper roganovic also got injured last week, our issue all season has been an inability to cover injuries, we had to play our lb in cb position which diminished our attacking ability down the flanks.
The way I saw it though we weren't switched on, didn't show the opposition enough respect and only started showing urgency when the match reached a critical point, when you are 2 goals down though you have to be clinical with your finishing, how we managed to miss so many chances is baffling, many of them easier to score then miss. Ultimately it simply wasn't good enough and the team with the right attitude won.

Blacktown City 4-1 winners they will play Queensland's Moreton Bay United next week.
Blacktown City: Win within 90 minutes = 3 points Goals For 4 = 12 points Goals Against 1 = -1 point Red Card 1 =-3 points
total of 11 points
any clue if they got any yellow cards during the game.

I can understand the lack of interest in this competition from the supporters to a degree, yes it's the nationwide NPL cup but it's tacked on to the end of season like an afterthought. It holds nowhere near the amount interest that the FFA Cup would command and if I were a South fan I would've been much more likely to attend a league match with a neck & neck title race going on, or the Dockerty Cup final or an FFA Cup qualifying game. The fact is they've been involved in a lot of games this year and this game came up at short notice, is tacked on to the end of a long season and seeing Olympia isn't exactly a big drawcard. I also think that South line-up is nowhere near indicative of what they were like throughout the season at all. Without Roganovic their keeper, Jawadi in central midfield and Eagar in central defence they were missing 3 of their best players that have barely missed a game all year. Shifting Norton (IMO their best player this season) from lb to centre back completely nullified his strengths in terms of getting forward, providing quality crosses, causing 2v1 situations for opposition fullbacks to deal with, allowing Epifano to drift in more centrally etc. and this was a fatal error by Chris Taylor. Yes, they were beaten on the day and don't get me wrong, I dislike South more than most, but judging them and their season on this game alone wouldn't be fair at all.

No disrespect to the Tassie sides, but it's a much bigger event for them to have a South Melbourne or a Sydney United down there than vice versa. South Melbourne fans arent going to be overly excited about playing a club from Tasmania. The FFA and state feds need to review the promotion that the NPL finals series gets. It's almost non-existent.

Supporter fatigue plays a part, it's been a very long season, South played almost 40 games in all competitions this year, the title race for top spot was a thrilling ride, going down to goal difference, constantly looking at futbol live app to see what bentleigh were doing in the final weeks. You can't beat that sort of tension. You win that and suddenly move to the knockout playoffs, and from that to the nationwide cup, I didn't see much promotion for this tournament, in fact some media outlets had written that bentleigh would be playing Olympia, maybe if we had moved on to the semi final and faced west Adelaide word would have spread being an old Nsl derby but even they fell.
Btw I think 1,000 is being generous, can't have been more than 500 inside the stadium, they have to do a better job of promoting this tournament and making it a big deal. The prize that is on offer for winning it deserves it. The problem is the ffa cup has completely suffocated all the other comps.

Quote:The PlayStation 4 NPL 2015 Semi Finals will be held in NSW and Western Australia following the results of the weekend’s four Elimination Finals.
Blacktown City FC and Bayswater City SC both earned the right to host their Semi Finals after finishing ahead of their next up opponents in the points system used to determine the home team for the Semi Finals and Grand Final.
Using the points system, Blacktown City FC finished with 11 points after their 4-1 win over Canberra FC, one point ahead of Moreton Bay United FC who defeated Edgeworth FC 3-1 at QSAC.
On the other side of the draw, Bayswater City SC’s come from behind 2-1 victory over West Adelaide saw them register seven (7) points, while Olympia FC’s stunning upset 2-1 win away against South Melbourne FC saw them end with one (1) point due to accruing a number of yellow cards and a red card.

Still don't like the fact that the draw is rigged so that the same state champions play each other every year. Surely a 7 game tournament doesn't justify pairing up the closest states. Yup.

Saw the whole Hobart Olympia / Bayswater game.
Bayswater were by far the better side. It would have been interesting to see Olympia play with 11 v 11 in the second half when South Melb dominated last week, albeit against 10 payers with Hickey's red. Olympia arguably held their own against South Melb in the first half last week.
I was particularly impressed by Bayswater's central striker Heagney, and Sam who played in the left and right wings.Probably even more impressed with Sam, (or is it Sahr?) than Epifano for South Melb last week.
Have Sam and Heagney had HAL trials?
Well played Bayswater. I think they will win the final at home against Blacktown next week. For whatever reasons the NPL is becoming more even across the states.
Having said this, there are 3 Vic NPL teams in the FFA Cup out of the last eight.

Well thats right Timmo - more so which NPL clubs have the larger resource buying players, ambition ;) Decentric, helps playing a Final on home ground but don't discount Blacktown - their attack is pretty good if allowed the room, Mallia and Choi are sound. Edited by M.L.: 29/9/2015 02:28:21 PM

By beating a WA side... Think a bit more, one yes it was a wa nsw Finale - non of the more known vic pl teams made it as expected - two, as I said regards to the vic domination didn't happen. Its ok TSF, just a bit of fun, lets face it nswpl sides haven't been too convincing in the past, barring SU v's victory. Edited by M.L.: 5/10/2015 07:01:43 PMEdited by M.L.: 5/10/2015 07:02:28 PM
