Westfield FFA Cup 2015 - WA Preliminary Rounds

Competition Format

Entries for the 2015 Westfield FFA Cup open on Monday 1 December 2014 to all men's senior clubs in WA that are affiliated to Football West. The format of the WA Preliminary Rounds of the competition is as follows:

Only one entry per club permitted - Entry is Voluntary
Round 1 - to be held between Saturday 28 February & Sunday 8 March;
Round 2 - to be held between Saturday 14 March & Sunday 22 March;
Round 3 - to be held between Saturday 28 March & Sunday 29 March;
Round 4 - to be held on Monday 6 April (Easter Monday);
Round 5 - to be held on Monday 27 April (ANZAC Day Holiday);
Round 6 - to be held on Monday 1 June (WA Day Holiday); and
Round 7 - to be held between Saturday 20 June and Sunday 21 June.
There will be a staggered entry for clubs in different competitions as follows:

NPL Clubs - enter at Round 4;
State League Clubs - enter at Round 3;
Sunday Premier Clubs - enter at Round 2; and
All other Clubs - enter at Round 1.
Rounds 1 & 2 will consist of matches in the metropolitan area, the South West, Kalgoorlie, Albany and Geraldton. In Round 1, clubs in the South West, Kalgoorlie, Albany and Geraldton will play matches against local opposition. Matches will be held at centralised locations in the Perth metropolitan area or regional cities if the home drawn club is unable to access its home venue at that time. Matches from Round 3 onwards will be held on a home and away basis at the first drawn club's home venue. Should the club not be able to gain access to its home venue for a particular match, it will be the home club's responsibility to source another venue. Travel subsidies may be available to clubs that are required to travel from a regional area to Perth or vice versa.

The two winners of the Round 7 matches will qualify for the National Round of 32 of the competition that is run by FFA at which point the qualifying clubs from the other 8 member federations and the Hyundai A-League clubs will be pooled together.

Maximum Number of Clubs

The maximum numbers of clubs that may enter are as follows:

NPL Clubs - 11;
State League Clubs - 24;
Sunday Premier Clubs - 12;
All Other Perth Metropolitan Clubs - 44; and
Clubs from South West, Great Southern, Goldfields, Mid-West - Unlimited
Please note that entries will be on a first come, first served basis.

Entry Fee

The entry fees for participation in the Westfield FFA Cup are as follows:

NPL Clubs - $750. In 2015, Football West will pay $500 of this.
All Other Clubs - $300. In 2015, Football West will pay $250 of this.
Clubs that qualify for the Round of 32 (winners of Round 7 matches) - Additional $2,000. This will be the sole responsibility of the qualifying clubs.
In exchange for Football West's contribution, competing clubs will be required to continue to pay match official fees on match day.

Venue Requirements - Round of 32

While the venue requirements for the WA Preliminary Rounds will be consistent with the level of competition in which each club participates, you should be aware at the time of entering that from the Round of 32 - ie after the completion of the WA Preliminary Round 7, the Westfield FFA Cup is a midweek competition. A condition of entry into the competition is that each club acknowledges this and no consideration whatsoever will be given to any request to move a match from midweek to a weekend.

A consequence of this is that Round of 32 matches must be played under suitable floodlighting. A club that qualifies for the Round of 32 and earns the right to host a match MUST do so at a ground with the following minimum lighting levels:

Home match against an NPL or other grassroots club - 200 Lux;
Home match against a Hyundai A-League club - 350 Lux (if the field of play is in good condition); and
Home match against a Hyundai A-League club - 500 Lux (if the field of play is NOT in good condition).
Should a club qualify for Round 7, it MUST obtain a Lighting Certificate dated no earlier than 1 January 2015 to demonstrate that its venue meets the lighting standard above. The lighting certificate must be provided to Football West no later than 2 business days prior to the Round 7 match. If the club's home venue does not have floodlights, no lighting certificate is required. Other venue requirements apply and these will be communicated to qualifying clubs as they become available from FFA.

Interested?

If your club would like to enter the Westfield FFA Cup in 2015, then please complete the entry form and return to Football West no later than 5:00pm WST Friday 30 January 2015. Your club may withdraw its application before this time without penalty, but withdrawals after this time will incur an administration fee of 25% of the entry fee.

Should you have any queries, please contact either Chris Beech or Keith Wood.

Enter the Westfield FFA Cup 2015

The nation-wide knockout competition is open to all men’s Premier Competition Clubs and Senior Zone Member Clubs. Northern NSW Football is responsible for conducting the Preliminary Rounds of the Westfield FFA Cup and identifying two winners to represent Northern NSW in the Round of 32 stage. The two qualifying clubs will then be drawn against opposition from across the country, potentially even a Hyundai A-League Club.

Due to travel distances and time restraints, the Preliminary Rounds of the competition will be divided into two pools, the Northern Pool and the Southern Pool.

The Northern Pool will comprise of club teams from Football Mid North Coast, North Coast Football, Northern Inland Football and Football Far North Coast. From these club teams, the last remaining two will participate in the NNSWF Finals Series, representing the Northern Pool.

The Southern Pool will be split into two further sub-pools, the first comprising of National Premier Leagues Clubs and the second comprising of NEWFM 1st Division Clubs, as well as club teams from Newcastle Football, Macquarie Football and Hunter Valley Football. From these club teams, the last remaining six will participate in the NNSWF Finals Series, representing the Southern Pool.

Round One of the Westfield FFA Cup will commence in February 2015, with the format to be determined based on the final number of nominations received.

The entry fee for the Westfield FFA Cup is $750 for a National Premier Leagues Club, and $300 for a NEWFM 1st Division Club or Zone club team, inclusive of all Match Official fees. NNSWF encourages all clubs to participate in the Westfield FFA Cup and support this exciting new initiative in Australian Football!

> Nominate your club for entry into the Westfield FFA Cup 2015

Nominations close Monday 8th December, 2014.

I play at Gisborne SC and we are hoping to enter the FFV cup for the first time after making a move from Sunday Leagues to State League 5. Get ready for #cupsets.

Any news regarding the set ups for the Waratah and Dokerty Cups? Will they include regional teams from outside metropolitan areas?

Nothing on the FFNT website that I can see. Will have a check of the Fox Sports Pulse website while I'm at work.

FNSW applications open. http://www.footballnsw.com.au/index.php?id=149&tx_ttnews%5Byear%5D=2014&tx_ttnews%5Bmonth%5D=12&tx_ttnews%5Btt_news%5D=9604&cHash=1c416df9e83ffe9669fffab7d68b106b

Appears no lucky losers this year, with the 5 round 7 winners qualifying for FFA Cup. Appears to be no regionalised qualifying and matches from Round 4 (third round in nsw) are on Wednesday nights so this probably again excludes the Riverina, Western and Far South Coast Clubs.

What rounds would those clubs enter?
There are 4 match days on Wednesdays. They should still enter and hope for home games. If they are lucky that would mean no or 1 away trip. It is necessary IMO that they enter. When the Sydney clubs start complaining about having to travel to them maybe this will create enough noise to reconfigure their qualifying.

Or even better......
I hope as many teams as possible enter then boycott if they get drawn away. It doesnt cost much to enter and im sure they could raise the money.

If NNSW and WA have introduced regional clubs I fail to see why NSW can't. If the ffa want to double numbers from this season it will come from regional FA's.

Yes its hard to see how Sydney could stuff it up again. They know those teams want to participate. The Qld model worked.

I just cant see why they cant make a normal draw for the league then have all teams on standby that if they are still in the cup or are to play a team still in the cup the game will be moved to the Wednesday. So you keep all cup matches on the weekend. That way you dont even need regional divides if you want to keep it "fair/true"

But FFA should take over. It may come after 3 year period. Hopefully a bigger deal can be made and then we shift to 64 or at least the 44 team model

The Queensland model was brilliant. I was hoping all gederations would implement something similar to encourage participation.

Obviously not. Fuck logic.

I forgot about the Wagga City Wanderers entry into the NSW State League 2 for 2015. So they will be forced to enter the FFA Cup qualifying. So there will be at least one team from each of the NSW branches, Wagga City from Riverina, Southern Branch FC (Nowra) from Southern and Western NSW Mariners (Bathurst) from Western.
Although the Wednesday night matches probably exclude the 112 other FNSW clubs from outside the Sydney, Central Coast and Illawarra leagues. Will be interesting to see if any of the strong Griffith clubs decide to enter and just try their luck at getting drawn at home, and having the city clubs forfeit. They might be able to manage one or two mid-week trips to Sydney and with the NPL clubs entering in Round 4 (first mid-week games) they would probably get knocked out by then. Especially if they don't enter the Bill Cullinan Cup that would reduce the number of times per year they have to make the 6 hour one-way trip to Sydney.
There are only a maximum of 176 spots for Association teams in the Waratah Cup. With there being about 470 clubs in NSW outside of NPL and State League plenty of clubs will miss out anyway.

Just travel issues. The clubs can't get players that are either unpaid or paid not a lot, to take two days off work to make the up to 12 hour return trip to Sydney for a game on a Wednesday night. Weekend games would be fine, even at night.
The lighting of home night matches isn't an issue as there are sufficiently lit grounds in most regional centres. The requirement for the FNSW qualifying matches is only 100 Lux according to their application forms.

I would have thought some games would be played on the weekend. Like this season.

Yeah round 2 is the prelim round, so a max of 176 entries from Association Clubs.
In NSW all the clubs that are outside the 24 NPL or 24 State League clubs play their football in comps run by the 15 Metro+Illawarra+Central Coast Associations or 3 Regional Branches (That are made up of further sub Associations). They are there fore referred to Association Clubs. So basically outside the top 4 divisions, football in NSW is very localised. And some of the teams playing in Association Comps are probably just as strong as the State League Clubs, maybe even NPL2 when it comes to the Illawarra Premier Comp.
The 15 Associations are:
Bankstown District
Blacktown & District
Canterbury District
Central Coast Football
Eastern Suburbs
Gladesville Hornsby
Granville & District
Football South Coast
Northern Suburbs
Macarthur District
Manly Warringah
Nepean
Southern Districts
St. George
Sutherland Shire

And the 3 Branches and sub-associations are:
Football Riverina (Wagga, Albury-Wodonga, Griffith, South West Slopes)
Western NSW Football ( Bathurst, Dubbo, Lachlan, Lithgow, Orange, Western Plains)
Southern Branch (Eurobodalla, Shoalhaven, Highlands, Southern Tablelands, Far South Coast)

In last years FFA Cup qualifying for NSW, St. George Association club Sans Souci was the last remaining association club who were knocked out by the Northern Tigers in the Round of 16. Blacktown and District club Doonside Hawks knocked out 2 State League clubs in last years qualifying.

FFV have released Dockerty Cup details for 2015 http://www.footballfedvic.com.au/westfield-ffa-cup-2015/
Open to 208 clubs. No regional qualifying, so we may see all the forfeits again from the Melbourne based State League teams not wanting to travel outside the city.

NPL & NPL1 clubs enter in Round 4, so require 4 wins to qualify for FFA Cup proper. Victory & Heart youth teams not included in the cup.

Only 20 places available that have to be shared firstly between New State League Clubs (like an earlier posters Gisborne SC), then any remaining spots shared between the approx. 74 regional league clubs (Warrnambool, Ballarat, Bendigo, Sunraysia, Goulburn NE, Wodonga, Gippsland & Geelong) and approx. 15 stand alone Metropolitan League Clubs.

NNSWF Preliminary round draw

and article

This is for the "southern" half of NNSW (Newcastle, Hunter and Lake Macquarie). The northern half draw is to come and will be a different format to this.

Incidentally, I don't think it looks much at all like the previously posted description of the draw process (unless their definition of a sub-pool is way different to mine), so someone must have had a change of mind at some point.
