x2. Would make up for the 'marquee' fixture we had this year (sorry Kiwi crew! :) and we still have fond memories of Australia vs Chile in Feb 1998 and Chile's appearance at the MCG various times for Sydney 2000.

A wonderful end of season 'marquee' fixture for late May/early June and after that, the Socceroos can go on proper leave.

ehhh... not a fixture to really excite to be honest, their decent, and have some very good players and play an exciting style of football but would have liked somebody abit more higher profile... Ivory Coast would have been pretty cool

when is that USA game suppose to be on that got teed up in South Africa

Melbourne is supposedly guaranteed one major international socceroos game per year.

Last year they tried to pass that off as New Zealand.

And even then we still drew more than double the crowd Sydney did against Paraguay

Being a Socceroos farewell match and all probably helped. As well as the fact that even if the Paraguay match was a sell out the New Zealand attendance still would have been higher because of the SFS capacity.

That's becuase the Victoran Government under the now-ousted John Brumby signd a deal with the FFA to guarantee one game per year in Melbourne. The FFA were locked into that deal regardless.

As notors said, Melbourne was sold a lemon last year, as respectful as I can be to the NZ boys who read this.

I think you're right. I certainly wouldn't see the NZ game as a 'major international' in that context. I do think however they gave you the best game you guys could get under the circumstances at the time though. I don't think many countries would have wanted to come down to this part of the world in the lead up to an African world cup.

It's pretty big from what I know. I think there's roughly 6-7,000.
A game between Chile and Australia in Melbourne would attract roughly 35-40k imo.

Go and check data from Aus vs Chile Feb 1998 and Chile's games in Melbourne during Sydney 2000 Olympics for a guide.

Old news and thanks for calling me a c..t on YF the other day. You're a hospitable bloke.

As I’ve said elsewhere of late, on-field the Nix have been doing well and letting the off-field stuff go, whether you like it or not, there’s off field stuff there and it has a right to be discussed. But take nothing away from their current on-field form.

Sydney crowds (and Melbourne's superiority aka the inferiority complex all Melbournians suffer) and Wellington's existence are brought up at random throughout this forum.

The key is to find some kind of related factor.

For example, if there could be an article on Liverpool v Manchester United and someone will discover a player on the Man Utd bench once visited Sydney and Wellington on a holiday. Cue segue; "I bet if he had gone to a home game in each city he would've seen how shit Sydney's crowds are and that Wellington should not be in the A-League." Cue the 30 people on these forums who do daily "New Zealand/Wellington" and "Sydney" searches so that they can add their 2c.

That's even worse, being beaten by an unknown footballing nation;)

The point is, we would rather watch a worldwide well known football nation that will provide entertainment.
More of a crowd-pleasing game, e.g. in a club sense, MLS supporters waching Manchester United play against MLS teams in America.

yea same Chile are fantastic they play attacking football have a young quick team this game should go too Melbourne. Until NSW starts supporting there A-league sides no Socceroos matches should go there i reckon Adelaide would get a better turn out then Sydney did against Para.

i actually think Eithad is fine as long as the push the seats forward it also allows for an extra 15K seats to be sold.

In the end of the day Melbourne makes money why limit that? you know what i'm saying but AMII park is a much better stadium

If it is in Melbourne it'll be at AAMI Park. On the weekend it's apparently set for Melbourne Storm aren't playing in Melbourne, and there will most definitely be footy on at Etihad.

AAMI Park, even though it would fit around 10k less (if seats were to be pushed in at ES), would be the most logical option.

June 3 sees the Rebals S15 team play at AAMI Park, Etihad only has an AFL game on the Sunday 5 June. You're not going to get the stands moved in with an AFL game the next day.

No Bielsa at Chile anymore, means this game will be a litmus test for the new manager?

Neither governments are fond of football. No support, no suitable stadiums = no games.

That said, I would like to see a WCQ at Hindmarsh.
