I never said I didn't like it, in fact I applaud it. But Red Bull are a bunch of hypocrites cause they are always the first to complain when another team (ie Ferrari) does it.

Not sure to which specific event you refer where they were 'first' to complain.

Bit late, but Interlagos was one of the craziest endings to a season since... well Interlagos in 2008.

The fact that Vettel avoided any major damage after the first few turns is nothing short of incredible. And then to make his way through the field AGAIN.. wow.

Wanted Alonso to win, but have to applaud Vettel's efforts. Have to say he deserved it after the second half of the season.

Webber cheats on his wife, it's the great unspoken 'secret' of F1.
Alonso's arrogant and selfrightious.
Hamilton is like Alonso on drugs.

Maybe it's being German that makes him an ass? Alonso can be an ass too, but at least he does it with some flair. And I got no love for the Spanish either.

Time for a bump since F1 is back this weekend. Decieded to stump up the dough and will be heading down to the bleak south for the race, so I hope the weather holds up.
I can see this year being business as usual, as we've had a few years of rule stability. Ferrari and Red Bull will be at the front, McLaren to take a step back and Mercedes to make a step up, but I don't see it translating into wins.

I was gonna start a new thread, but the index links to this one. Perhaps Heiny can edit the thread title.

When they open the season here it's usually a decent race. It's only when the teams get a couple of rounds prior coming in that it's a parade in Melbourne.

McLaren could have a good year with Button as their lead driver, now that they've jettisoned Hamilton. I think they'll be up there once the European season kicks of in earnest. Keep an eye on Max Chilton as well. He'll be one of the best of the back markers.

he could be the new pope for all I care - still think he is a shit regardless. & he needs RB to spoon feed him..that grates

After what Mark has done for the team (and before when RB was Jaguar putting their green lemon of a car in point scoring results where it shouldn't have been) they could back him at least once properly before he retired.

Anyway before I blow a gasket on the issue, I better digress...A unique sound of our national anthem in the key of F1 Major....

That's just nonsensical. Why would you pay another guy more to be your number 1 driver, a guy who's younger, shown to be faster in testing and is for all intents and purposes a better driver, why would they back Webber?

They don't just decide to back Vettel on the flip of a coin. They go off hours and hours of test laps.

Its funny about the german quotes as I agree and back anyone v's them especially in football NT and Bayern can't stand them BUT I have backed a F1 team for as long as I can remember and I had to get consumed with MS after waiting 20yrs for the mighty FERRARI being No1 again.
The only german I had to go against my grain due to the love of winning in my beloved Scarletts.
Alonso is typically french but the mug can drive so I hope he delivers by season end but damn I wish KIMI was back in our cars !

Modern day F1 is a bit of joke nowadays but my love of motorsport keeps me in.
Heres some feedback re the new pirelli tyres :

Pirelli are confident the severe tyre degradation at Barcelona will not be evident when the F1 circus heads to Australia.

Many drivers have complained this week about the extreme degradation or graining of their Pirelli tyres at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Such is the problem that Sergio Perez reckons the Australian GP could see as many as "seven to 10" pit stops.

However, Paul Hembery says that won't happen as the degradation is due largely to the cold temperatures the team have experienced in Spain.

"The teams experienced quite high degradation in Barcelona, and that was really down to the weather conditions," said the Pirelli motorsport boss.

"The conditions we had in Barcelona are far from typical of the rest of the season, with much cooler ambient and track temperatures than we would normally race in, and even some rain on the final day.

"This put the tyres outside of their usual working ranges, which led to problems such as graining. The conditions were particularly unsuited to the supersoft tyre, due to the circuit layout and the roughness of the surface in addition to the cold temperatures.

"Coupled with the fact that teams are still making big set-up adjustments to their new cars and trying out our complete range of our tyres to optimise the package, we saw levels of degradation that are not typical.

"Once we get to Melbourne the tyres should be much more within their intended working range, which will eliminate the unusual amount of degradation that some teams have experienced."

More than 46,000 fans attend first day of Formula One fiesta at Albert Park

by:
Peter Rolfe From:
Herald Sun March 14, 2013
8:39PM

THE Formula One Grand Prix carnival is off and racing in Melbourne once again.

Love it or loathe it, the Grand Prix has taken over the heart of the city, with fast cars and international stars descending for the opening round of the F1 world championship.
Thousands of fans flocked to the track free of charge for Australian GP "heritage day", marking the 60th anniversary of the first race at Albert Park.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation posted an estimated attendance of 46,800 for the first day of the four-day event, with brilliant sunshine greeting fans decked from head to toe in their favourite team colours.

The strong opening day attendance came without a Formula One driver putting their high-speed machine to the test, as the first F1 practice sessions start today and qualifying tomorrow before Sunday's season-opening race.

.....
The unmistakable roar of F1 engines will reverberate through inner-city suburbs for the next three days as fans travel from all corners of the state, Australia and overseas to watch the globe-hopping Grand Prix circus and a paddock full of petrolhead entertainment.

Drivers hailed Melbourne as one of the great grands prix in the world and urged officials to lock in a new long-term contract to guarantee its future.

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg, from Germany, said the naysayers should balance the cost to taxpayers with what the event brought in marketability.

"Sometimes it's difficult because of course it costs money, but the awareness that it gives is so big for Melbourne," he said.

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel signs autographs at Albert Park. Picture: Getty Images
."It puts Melbourne on the map for everybody in the world. It's massive."

Victorian Governor Alex Chernov officially opened the Grand Prix last night at a Government House ceremony.

Earlier, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa unveiled the world's first, life-size Lego Formula One Ferrari model car at a ceremony in Docklands.

Australian drivers Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo supported a push to have pre-season grand prix testing moved from Europe to Australia to improve data collection in warmer conditions.

Bookies have framed markets on everything from crowd figures to whether Melbourne will keep the event or kiss it goodbye when its current contract expires in 2015.

Sportsbet spokesman Shaun Anderson said the online agency was offering punters odds of $8 for an Australian winner of this year's race, $2.63 for an Aussie to finish in the top three, and $6.50 that next year's Albert Park race would be a night race.

"While there has been plenty of talk of the Grand Prix moving to a night start, the punters couldn't disagree more and are tipping things will stay as is," he said.

2013 Formula 1 Season: Teams.

Very interesting to see that Lewis Hamilton has left McLaren and moved to Mercedes, replacing Michael Schumacher. I guess McLaren had finally had enough of his antics. Also interesting to note that Sergio Perez who was driving with Sauber has replaced Hamilton at McLaren.

A few drivers have dropped out of this years competition, as afrementioned Michael Schumacher decided to call it quits (for once and for all perhaps?) and one of my favourite drivers Vitaly Petrov was dropped by Marussia. HRT Racing has also dropped out of the F1 for this season.

HRT went into receivership back in late October last year. They ran out the season and then had all their assets scrapped and sold off.

One of your 'favourite' drivers but you don't know that he drove for Cosworth and not Marussia?

Chilton is a quality driver but I'm surprised to see Marussia pick Bianchi over offering Petrov a deal.

Dont you have to start on the tyres you use in Q1? Cant see teams willing to gamble on that so quickly.

Been out of the F1 rule loop for a while, so much has changed in the past few years

They can go in reverse now?
