True paul but i think its more just getting the fans more involved on a regular basis which really is the key in getting their trust back.

Few things that caught my interest were:

Bit surprised we let go of Yango because i thought he was a promising young player from the short time i saw him play.

The question about if we were going to sign any players in the transfer window was a little disappointing, unless JA said that because he is just waiting to get rid of Polenz to free up a spot.

Also about Triple M, i never even knew Johnny was doing weekly appearance on the show, might need to start listening to them.

If they are looking at playing a song before the match i hope there is a vote for it.

The squad for City game tomorrow.

Quote:
Brisbane Roar FC squad: 3.Shane STEFANUTTO, 6.Jerome POLENZ, 7.CORONA, 8.Steven LUSTICA, 9.Jamie MACLAREN, 10.HENRIQUE, 13.Jade NORTH, 14.Daniel BOWLES, 15.James DONACHIE, 16.Devante CLUT, 17.Matt McKAY, 18.Javier HERVAS, 19.Jack HINGERT, 21.Jamie YOUNG (gk), 22.Thomas BROICH, 23.Dimitri PETRATOS, 28.Brandon BORRELLO, 36.Andre JANNESE (gk) **two to be omitted**

Ins: 6.Jerome POLENZ (promoted), 9.Jamie MACLAREN (return from international duty), 17.Matt McKAY (return from international duty) Outs: 26.Nick D'AGOSTINO (omitted)

Unavailable: 1.Michael THEO (gk) (quad strain, 2 week), 12.Jean Carlos SOLORZANO (hamstring strain, 2 weeks), 33.Luke DE VERE (quad, 4 weeks).

Still think Matty and Jamie will not be the 2 to be omitted from the nominated squad.

Polenz and Lustica is my bet unless there are unknown injuries.

When does he do those Triple M spots?
Yango Im mot surprised by. He didnt seem to have anoter gear to go and missed a few sitters.
The "fit our system" stuff is defs about Clut. Im feeling for the kid. If this was AFL we could definitely trade him+cash to Glory for Risdon. Needs to play as a #10 centrally to be effective it seems.

I was there, pretty good summary. Some observations/additions:

* Roar are in the market for a left back, JAs words, Steff retires at the end of the season
* young is now considered to be the No. 1 keeper
* debt was over $2m, now less than $500k and on track to be gone by Jan (DP was vague with numbers but specific enough - eg "debt was in seven figures, it started with a 2)
* all backlog player payments cleared this month.
* priority is dedicated training facility and academy set up

I know. It worked well with Newcastle. I would have McKay or lustica on him at all times. On the ball two players on him.

I actually wondered if Hervas might be good at man-man marking, not uncommon in Spain as a tactic?

To early to say what Hervas like, his camio off the bench was great. But let see him string couple of 90 mins together to make a call on that. Wouldn't surprise me though. But he seems like a creative outlet, i wouldn't want to get him to bog down in defensive duties when you have someone like mckay that is box to box to do that for you.

DeVere has been an absolute lemon of a signing. Played about 3 games for us and didn't even play that well when he did. At the moment I'd say even if fit, he'd be 4th choice CB.

Exactly, a wasted talent if his prime responsibility is to man mark. In the limited time he played he did look like one who enjoys powering forward. Looked really athletic which is great too shut down players. Petratos' waddling around in midfield has disadvantaged Roar's usual style if not game plan.

Thats the thing that a lot of our midfield players lack is the moment off ball to always be in space. Petrat is just lazy in ball possession, if we don't have mckay our midfield is to static in possession because corona goes deep to be the deep lying playmaker to get the ball out.

Agree. Bowles is doing extremely well as is Hingert but combined the lack of experience is causing some issues in their positioning as joint defenders when under attack.

A couple of things on DeVere - first he does have talent so there's something there for Aloisi to work with, secondly his injuries have been inflicted by overplaying him particularly in the Villarreal game. So I'd say just give him time and let's see what happens when he comes back, I'd put him 4th in line like you but with North getting on he wouldnt be a bad replacement

I think the top 4 are true, there's no reason for them not to be - the new HAL rules are there soon with deduction of 4 (?) points if you owe players a backlog (from January?) so that won't be allowed to happen, and secondly the debts being paid off by January is a commitment made to the FFA as a condition of keeping the licence. DP also said there are buters still interested in Roar (but I doubt they're interested at the Bakries asking price). It was also mentioned that the club is being bankrolled through Nirwen Bakries personal wealth not their business - not sure what difference that makes.

Petratos is definitely getting frustrating. Every time he gets the ball I know what he is going to do next. I have no idea what John sees in him. I hate bagging my own players out but it is getting old.

I prefer Henrique coming off the bench, since he is about 3'9 he just gets pushed around too easy, he is more effective against tired defenders.

Though having 14 points this early in the season is a great result. I think we'll definitely be top 4 by seasons end.

It's funny but if you compare Petratos performance v Borrello on Friday night Petratos wins hands down imo; I watched the game back again in TV yesterday and the (Fox) commentators were very complementary towards Dimi. So I'm coming around to Petratos although (see above) I think there's better combinations available now. A couple of examples in the first half where he switched the ball across the park for Broich to then cross in to Maclaren for a free header JM should have scored with and then a couple of magical dribbles which were excellent and resulted in shots being taken. He's much better than last season so he's worth persevering with. Where he did show his "usual self" was late in the game at 1-1 when he got the ball wide on the right and the correct decision would have been a low fast cross to Ricky but he chose instead to try and cut back. But on balance he's had three or four really good games and is a key part of the team that sits on top of the table so we should be careful when we critique him, especially as Aloisi has shown he wont play favourites and is prepared to drop anyone so he's got him there for s good reason

Petratos has tight ball control and can weave his way to goal and occasionally score. When he does it's normally a cracker. Last week he could have had 2 if not for the post. I reckon Aloisi likes the X factor in him.

When Aloisi is not fully understanding yet is that Roar's success has relied on exerting pressure in midfield and when you have a passive DM in Corona you can't also have a waddler like Petratos who is happy to float around the fringes and not put in the hard yards.

When we had Brattan at least he had some mongrel about him and if you had someone like Petratos it wasn't as bad but we can't have 2 players in mid who are insufficiently mobile and lack the ability to shut down the opposition with some aggression.

Not say Brattan was better than Corona, but he fitted the Roar system much better. Corona is an excellent reader of the game and is a slick passer. I was hoping Hervas would put in a better shift last game but the whole team didn't seem to gel that day.

The way we played we would be lucky to reach 4th spot by season's end as I can see us dropping points in succession the way we are going. Aloisi needs to get the midfield balance right, quickly.

In the past Ive been a defender of Petratos but hes lost me. He gives the ball away far too often, rarely tracks back on D, and just makes a heap of dumb decisions in general every game. For exaple, last week he dribbled the ball 30 yards in the wrong direction then passed it back to Jamie Young. He cant dribble and keep his head up/check often enough for it to be really effective.

Once Hervas is fit, I would expect a midfield of McKay-Corona-Hervas to be starting. I just hope it doesnt come at Borellos expense, with Dimi taking his spot on the wing. Even if he is having an 'off game', he never quits on his defensive duties and is one of the most effective tacklers in the competition. Dimi can barely defend himself from his hairdresser.

Very true. Love him to death, he would want to be playing 90 minutes. But you have to use him when he is effective 2nd half 50-60th minute substitute like clockwork.

re paulc, the issue all the time petrat runs with the ball, it is in the opposite direction to goal or running on the inside. He NEVER takes on the man and goes forwards unlike borello, that's the problem. He does everything 90% right, the issue is 10% he gets wrong is the difference in being a great important team player and a ball hog that slows down play. we have plenty of players that have the x factor that don't kill the attack, ricky, clut, lustica and probably hervas who offer way more.

Unfortunately I think we will lose Clut at the end of the season for nothing. Probably to Victory where he will go on to be sold for 2mil 6 months after arriving.

Is clut out of contract? I know Aloisi said we'd 10 players off contract but I thought Clut had just signed a new deal?

From memory players off contract at the end of the season: Steff, Young, Solorzano, North, Borrello, Hervas, Donachie, Lustica, and then possibly Clut and Petratos. Plus DeVeres status is not clear but I thought he had one more year to go.

Who would I be looking to let go: Steff who's retiring, North who's aging, Solorzano who's injury prone, Lustica who's good but will most likely want more than he's getting.

To keep: Donachie, Young, Clut, Hervas maybe the rest then depends on who else is available?

Absolute shame if Clut goes to another A-League club and not to Europe - is a cracking player and as someone on the outside looking in, I'm convinced he should be playing week in, week out for your lot.

That said, always hapy to polish him up a bit before he goes to Europe... :-"

He's a hard one to start at the moment for Roar, I watched Lochlan Jackson playing for Jets yesterday and there's another fine youth player that was let go. Luckily he was picked up by an A League club but many end up dropping into the NPL. Makes you wonder how much talent is lost each season

I'm actually more dangerous coming on in the 89th minute.

I disagree. He played his best football last season when he started. This is simply fishism and I hereby start the campaign to "liberate the fish" .... #FreeTheFish. T-Shirts $10 deposit now and delivered at some vague point in the future, they'll be nice (trust me!)
