@Waz I have to partially disagree. The age of the squad is part of the problem. If you compare our squad to SFC it's chalk and cheese. SFC visa players?...All fit and healthy and not as old as Roar visa players. Brosque is old but still doing the job and is not that slow. Carney&Simon are bench players. Wilkshere is a weak spot. SFC midfiled compared to Roar's...a quantum level above. Roar's squad is too old to be fitter than any other squad. The oldest squad in the hottest climate is a brain fart by JA.Again part of the reason we now lose at home all the time.If you are in a hot climate you need younger fitter players or materially superior technical players.
On a different matter ,it's good to see Roar youth starting well in the npl.I haven't looked at the squads. But does this mean some senior players are getting game practice there?

@ crimsoncrusoe
Whilst not wanting to disagree with your analysis the point I wanted to make is that age is not an acceptable excuse or reason for this seasons performance.
So let me rephrase the point:
If JA has a younger squad this year it wouldn’t have made any difference, the problem is the coach and how he has set his team up, the ill discipline in that team, the mixed up formations and the general lack of fitness overall (even our teenagers are unfit and get sent home by the NT bosses).
So whether the average age is 33 or 23, the problems will still be the same. Coaching.

You would think Aloisi would have stuck with what worked for him the two seasons before, fast young counter attacking side with Jmac and Borrello etc Still amazes me he went from Young Jmac to Old Big Mac

Brisbane v Adelaide: John Aloisi targets six wins from six to finish
“We have six games left all up and we need to win every one of them. It will be tough because Adelaide make you work hard but I’m confident because of the way we played the other day and the way we’ve been training.”

@ lukerrobino
Last I heard Telstra hadn’t connected the internet and AGL hadn’t hooked up the power. A bit like any house move in QLD lol.
But other than that all good for admin and players to move in on Monday

& Aussie Scott
6 from 6 including away to SFC 😂
more likely:
Adelaide (H) win = 25 points SFC (A) loss = 25 points Nix (A) win = 28 points CCM (H) win = 31 points WSW (A) loss = 31 points Glory (A) draw = 32 points
30 points is our lowest ever haul and I’d say that’s more likely than the 36+ needed for finals

11,034 for the Reds first home game of Super Rugby in near perfect weather last night.I haven’t been a member for three seasons and couldn’t go but 11k is about half of what they’d expect and 28k is what they’d hope for in an optimistic season. Shows how hard it is to get fans to watch when they’ve stopped believing in a team/club/franchise. Roar next season could open up to 7k if the same rot sets in.

+xI wouldn’t mind him as a signing but he’s not going to make or break next season. It’s the big names that will do that. If a 36 year old FBK gets re-signed we know we’re in the shit, TK is also 36 and here next season and we can’t afford to blow visa spots just because they’re cheap and at the end of their career. (The signing of a 34 year old TK for two years and not one shows the mistakes being made at this club, if he’d been signed for one year he’d be leaving this winter). Maccarone and FBK have to move on, Eric and TK occupy two visa spots with three possible signings all of which have to be top quality. I reckon Maccarone has been worth at least 2 o 3 wins, maybe more. He has been in no way the problem. IN fact, i think if he had been a total flop, Roar would be in last position. (And imagine if Theo get hurt! It woud actually be really exciting if we stil played the old possession style he could score any number of goals. I wouldnt mind him getting another year. The team wasnt the same without TK. I would say it is probably a good thing that he was signed for an extra year! Even FBK, who i havent thought was as good as many seem to say, is probably one of the better teams. This leaves Bautheac as an import. Bauteac has been disappointing, imo, in terms of what he could have been, but he still showed some very good glimpses and is one of our better players. All in all, the imports are not that bad, in fact, i still believe that they have a team capable of winning the league (and may still do so) if they actually click. Their problem has been their actual form (overall, not just individuals) and their lack of direction and fight. I hate to blame the coach and have in the past been completely undecided but at themoment Aloisi is really struggling for confidence. In an ideal world, i would get a big name short term signing to appear as guest coach or assistant coach for the rest of the season. Someone who could inspire and get the players keen and excited to be playing. I dont think roar are far away. Last week was their best performance of the season, imo, although it was still a 60% effort at best. When thinking about it, i think Thomas Broich might actually be the best guy to give a short term coaching gig to. It would win with the Media, the players, and is a realistic chance. A Henrique back to the future tactic seemed to help last week, i think Broich should be brought into the setup straight away. With all this being said, there are changes which need to be made particularly for next year but i see the following: Holman - I dont see how he can be much more than a bench player. He is great at creating chances and playing well in short bursts but doesnt go the whole game.We need someone to replace him in the starting lineup, although this needs to be through form not just age. Dagostino didnt produce the form earlier in the season but this is the first position which needs improving. Next year, Holman should be a bench player or in blistering form keeping out a good player. Mackay - Definitely at a cross roads. If he plays he must be in top form which he isnt. He has never been a left back before, but if he stays i think it might be his best position nowadays. As a bench player, he might have some use in that he can plug holes in the defence and attack, plus he can lead on occassions, turn a bad game around with good form. Actually i think Holman and Mackay would make a very strong bench it is just that both need to accept the role and probably a pay cut. i doubt it will happen. Gameiro - I think he has the ability to step up and take a starting position probably on the wing but if Maccarone leaves and isnt adequately replaced, which he probably wont be) i think he is the only guy with a chance of performingin that position other than that Bautheac will probably be used as a stop gap measure. Franjic - To me he seems in pretty decent form compared to the rest. He and Hingert look decent at the back and with Connor O Toole and perhaps even Ingham both hopefully improving and getting some chances the fulbacks look good enough. NOrth - He actually seems to have come in and improved things, but he surely cant play another year. I dont know what has happened to Devere (even before the injury) but if he can return to decent form he is as good as anyone. Papadopolous - if the off field stuff doesnt effect him, he is as good as anyone in this position.

The team is not only too old but JA has shown hes not a great coach either this season.
Shows how important MacLaren and Borrello were last season.

BRISBANE Roar have gained the services of one of Australia’s leading sports scientists as they seek to gain an edge on their A-League rivals. Following an extensive review of their operations on and off the field after a season to forget and marred by a host of injuries, the Roar have acquired the services of Dr Craig Duncan. Duncan oversees the Socceroos’ fitness and sport science operations, and has previously worked with the Matildas, Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers and the NSW State of Origin rugby league team. http://www.news.com.au/sport/football/a-league/brisbane-roar-acquire-services-of-socceroos-head-of-sports-science/news-story/902d0bcdb0c4106d24bcbc1c1fe2a769

@ prickly bear
We’re not unlucky, Avraam is unfortunate but shit happens right, look at Boogard. Aloisi has navigated us in to a position where he blames everything on luck whereas we used to be a club that made its own luck. Aloisi now just comes across as needing everything perfect, then he might perform.

From Marco...... Bautheac, O’Toole, defenders Avraam Papadopoulos and Luke DeVere, midfielder Joey Caletti and attacker Shannon Brady are the only players contracted for next season. Avram would be long odds to play again though and according to club web site O’Toole contract is also up ?

O’Toole signed a contract extension in January which was announced sometime last month. Not that it made news anywhere lol
Thomas Kristensen is also on contract for next year which really does show Marco knows jack shit about Roar

I’d be keeping this lot:
Jamie Young (GK) White (GK)
Ivan Franjic Daniel Bowles Jacob Pepper Avraam Papadopoulos Luke DeVere Connor O’Toole
Thomas Kristensen (V) Brett Holman Joey Caletti
Corey Gameiro Henrique Eric Bautheac (V, M) Shannon Brady
Letting this lot go:
Michael Theo Cory Brown Massimo Maccarone Mitchell Oxborrow Matt McKay Fahid Ben Khalfallah
And 50/50 on these:
Jack Hingert Jade North Nick D’Agostino
That leaves 5-6 signings with 3 visa slots to fill which looks like one defender for cover (Thwaite?), one Midfielder (a visa) and two forwards (both visa), then squad fillers (O’Doherty, Harold?)

Pretty much exactly what I would go for. I'm 50/50 on Holman. Unless we sign a CAM outside the cap and have Holman on a reduced salary inside the cap, then I would be inclined to let him go. As much as I'd love Jadeo around, he will be 36. 50/50 for me. D'Agostino is a no for me. And Brady should not be on such a long deal.

@BRFC92
Agree on Holman 50/50 - the second marquee has to be a good striker imo. We need a solid right wing too.

+x@BRFC92Agree on Holman 50/50 - the second marquee has to be a good striker imo. We need a solid right wing too. That would work. And preferably someone younger than 38. This being a WC year, players playing their last WC may be inclined to have a career change after playing potentially their last WC and knowing they aren't going to make the next one. If we are going down the marquee road, maybe we could look to target a player in this mould, in their early 30's? Alternatively, if it doesn't work out for Macca, would you welcome him back to BR? Or potentially a ST who has had experience in Asia.

I cannot believe people want us to keep Gameiro AND Brady. In the past three seasons I have scored just as many goals as the two of them combined... i.e. NONE!

Brady is on contract for one more year. Put on during Mulvey/Stead’s time who thought he was “the next big thing” and to stop Victory poaching him.

So if we’re locked in for one non-goal scoring striker, why compound the issue by keeping another one (Gameiro). Is Michael Baird still playing?

Should be looking to sign a quality right winger , maybe look to South America or maybe Japan , a lot of the Japs come out of the collage system at 21-22 yrs old , there is a lot that would jump at the chance of a new country new language . Second div in most of the South America countries would have many gems just waiting to be picked up. Proper scouting is all that’s required not mates of mates or mates of agents network which we seem to rely on in Australia .
