Yeah I don't get this argument, how is trying to attract more families to games anything but a good thing? Thats bigger crowds, more merchandise sold, more revenue for the club, greater exposure, and more potential to make the kids life long football fans. Now if you think parents are being precious by not liking the active support then thats an argument for another day, but at the end of the day no matter what arguments you put up, if the mum or dad doesn't like the atmosphere they won't take the kids and thats just that, so like it or not we need to keep them coming and that means some changes need to happen, call it plastic, call it whatever you like, at the end of the day however do you want a mainstream football club and league or not? Thats the bottom line. The same people who complain about active support being cut back are the ones who then also complain about low crowds! Welcome to the real world lads, we can't have it all our own way, if we want football to go mainstream then there are certain perceptions that need to be broken down in the greater community. At the end of the day a balance needs to be struck, which is a hard thing to do, but guess what, going and ripping flares at a pre-season game because you didn't get your way like a group of 3 year olds throwing a group tantrum is not the way to acheive that balance! It's not tolerated in England you're right. But I can assure you that the club made a decision to kick the RCC before the pre-season flares. The club owe the supporters because without the supporters there is no club. To me, the supporters of the club are the club. It's a little difficult for A-League fans to understand because the clubs are new franchises. It can equally be argued, with GCU as a case in point, that without the supporters the club cannot survive. In ancient times, the supporters created the club, had an intense relationship with the club, passed down that relationship to the club from generation to generation. Football clubs are not clubs without fans. They may as well be pub squads otherwise.

I absolutely agree, like I said before, that there is no club without it's supporters, but the supporters aren't more important or less important, you need both. Yes a lot of clubs were founded by it's supporters, but how many are run by them? The fact still remains that you can't have one without the other, and as soon as one starts believing it is better than the other you get a lot of problems. As for GCU, without the club there never would have been a club to support. The supporters were just as much at fault for it's downfall as the club was, make no mistake. In reality your 'sig' should also say "Eff all those 'supporters' that never bothered to show up". If the supporters are the club as you say, a show of strength in support would have seen the club/team/support endure no matter the management.

In 99% of the world, the club is run by supporters. The board is usually life long fans who have the time /money/expertise to get involved at that level. Sounds like you've been talking to a RCC member who's told you all his bullshit, but I assure you there is another side to it and the rest of the Roar fans have increasingly lost patience with these guys for some time now. And the flares weren't just in the pre-season, they ripped them during a-league games last season too, so did the Den, and I was equally critical of them, but they at least weren't down sitting with families under the false pretence of "being different and a higher standard" Also since when has being the most drunk and rowdy been a measure of success? The Den can be a pain in the ass, they go quiet when we're loosing as an example, but at least they (mostly) follow the rules and don't roll out banners of someone doing lines for the Courier Mail to take photo's of and splash around making our game look bad! Rather than create a new thread.... My name is Ahmed for those who dont know and i am a journalism student at the University of Queensland. This semester we are required to do a video news story and well i thought what better story than the current situation with the RCC - and i have approval from my uni professors - . As a Roar fan and someone who has been part of The Den before i thought this would be an article i could relate to and hopefully tell very well. The idea is to get the story of both RCC and The Den via interviews and to compile that in to a news story as you see on tv. It will not be a story taking sides or knocking one grop or the other, but rather what is the issue and why is it happening. I would be very grateful if people from either fan group would be happy to participate in the interviews and hopefully help me out. The interview would last roughly 1 hour to an hour and half depending on how things go. I also would like to know if the Roar have open training sessions and when they are. Would i be able to do some videoing of the training as well, probably about 5 to 10 minutes max recording? if anyone is able to assist me or be of help i would greatly appreciate it. Ideally i am looking for members of The Den and RCC who have a decent understanding of what is going on and the situation. feel free to contact me either via the forum, PM or by email at ahmed.essof@uqconnect.edu.auMany Thanks In Advance.
