Information is power, and you should always know what you're dealing with. Kilos alone means next to nothing unless you're riding a horse or aiming for a weight class to fight in. Ok whats the best way to do that? All I want to know is if I'm on the right track as a beginner. From the flow of this conversation, I'd ask the Personal Trainer in your gym ;)

i keep getting this recurring hamstring injury when playing football. i get to the point after a few weeks where it feels good, i run and kick and everything for a week or two leading up to my game & then come gameday all it takes is that little explosive sprint & it tears again (and by tear, it fxxxing explodes with pain).
my question is - what can i do cardio-wise on a fxxxed hamstring that will help me stay fit in my injured weeks, but also possibly help it out?

Your hamstring keeps blowing out with explosive movements, I'd be doing everything to Strengthen it before doing much cardio wise.
Start with some very light good mornings and Romanian deadlifts once a week, adding 2.5kg each session if you pull up ok.. And like Benjo said, a bit of easy biking won't hurt.

my mrs is a physio. she just keeps facepalming at how much i "rush" back. the most perplexing thing about it all is i sprint, kick, jump, everything i would in a game in the week or two leading up to returning to play. i try and do everything i would in a game, and it feels fine, but i must just push harder in a game and it gives way again.
we do a fair bit of strengthening exercises already on it - and my quads/hamstrings/glutes etc are all pretty strong as-is. will see how some cycling will go in keeping me fit, and maybe just give it a bit longer rest.

pv4 wrote:i've also decided that when i get back to full fitness i want to work on having amazing core strength. what are the best no-weights exercises for corework that i can do at home? I do something called a core stability challenge at athletics. It goes for 3 minutes. 0.00-1.00 Hold a regular plank, keeping core tight, belly button to spine etc. 1.00-1.15 Lift one arm up, whilst making sure your body isn't twisting so you can keep the core tight. 1.15-1,30 Lift other arm up. 1,30-1.45 Lift one foot up. 1.45-2.00 Lift other foot up. 2.00-2.15 Lift one arm up and the opposite leg I.e. right arm and left leg. 2.15-2.30 Do the same with the opposite arms. 2.30-3.00 Finish holding a regular plank. If you master that, you can go to the next level, which is doing it with your feet on a fit ball. The key is basically keeping the core as tight as possible and making sure you aren't twisting your body when you've got an arm or foot up off the ground.

I see a physio (who does hardcore weights), a chiro (who does hardcore weights) and an osteo (who does a martial art). My contrasting. Each to their own though.

I highly doubt its nausea. You are probably just not used to pushing yourself. You will get over it.

It can be for any exercise, and after any length of time. No, I'm not pushing too hard - I could go harder, but this restricts me from wanting to carry on. I drink plenty of water. It doesn't seem to make a difference for what/when I eat. Since it's probably worth noting, I do have problems with acid reflux which I am on medication for. DB-PGFC wrote:I highly doubt its nausea. Ummmmmmm, no, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. But thanks anyway buddy.
