+x+xSusnjar starting at LB if I'm not mistaken. +xRyan Williams starting again in the championship. Got me perplexed how he doesnt get a mention in socceroos contention. Him Mabil Boyle all defs future wingers He'll be given chances for sure if he keeps playing regularly at that level Plays one game in the Championship. All of sudden he must be called up. Deary me, we must be desperate. Hes featured quite consistently in Rotherham starting XI

Brighton 1-0 Wolves. Great game and great performance from Ryan.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Gologol started for Sparta. Half time 0-0. He's playing right midfield.

Notts County lost 2-1 at home after leading at half time. Kewell really struggling now. It's their 3rd consecutive loss. Hanging onto 22nd place by their fingernails. Apparently they've conceded the most goals of any team in the top 4 divisions so far.

Genreau/Bouzanis bench Might have already been mentioned - Dougall is out for a while with an ankle sprain

Maty Ryan hey. Love that Brighton team. Hudderfield however, maybe prematurely won promotion with that dire attacking team. Really exposed now, their lack of firepower anywhere.

That is the issue with premature promotions, had the smallest budget more or less in the Championship, relied on loanees to get that promotion and spent a lot of money to sign one of those loanees permanently in Mooy. They then somehow stayed up last season but unfortunately for them the dross has been cleared out of the league now.

It highlights how important keepers are and why they are the biggest bargain of a position.

I thought Hudders on promotion really didn't make any big signings to solidify the squad at the EPL level, hence the struggle. They spent their promotion money on the stadium etc.

If the aim is to be competitive in the premier league then yes that is a thing. They came into the premier league with an absolutely shit squad and somehow got promoted with a negative GD and they haven't spent anywhere near enough money to make the squad competitive enough. Wagner deserves a whole heap of praise because what he has done has been nothing short of incredible, but even he can't really do much anymore to keep that squad up anymore. You see this quite a bit with promoted teams, there's usually one or two who managed to over achieve a bit in the championship but just don't have the squad to compete and drop right back down, sometimes in a much worse position if they invested poorly. Which is why you don't see that many teams get promoted right back after a relegation and sometimes find themselves getting relegated again.

How do you get ready for promotion. That's why you have a transfer window. No one on this planet would refuse going up to somehow better prepare themselves. Not to mention, Huddersfield stayed up in their second season so one would say they were successful.

Not to mention, Huddersfield stayed up in their second season so one would say they were successful. I didn't say refuse to get promoted, just said you run into major issues when you over-achieve in the championship. They are a small club, who invest less than all other premier league clubs and came up with the weakest squad in the first place. Short term fun, not necessarily great long term when they come crashing back into the championship with inflated wages on the shit premier league players they took a punt on.

Brighton sitting pretty in 11th spot. Same amount of points as Man Utd.
On ya Maty. 3 EPL clean sheats in a row when playing for a small team is a massive feat.

Not sure if mentioned but Denis Genreau came off the bench in the 60th minute for PEC Zwolle's 1-1 draw with Hercules.

So too Celtic and probably hibs in their current form. Rotherham is A league level. And Williams isn't even a star player for them

This might be more relevant for the Young Socceroos thread but in light of complaints our young players arent getting enough senior football, I see that Ipswich Town sacked their manager Paul Hurst late last week after getting only one win in their first 14 matches of the season. Ben Folami was getting some senior games at end of last season under then manager Mick McCarthy but he was totally shut out under Hurst (he was going to go on loan until the AFC tournaments came up) - lets hope that the new manager takes a different view. Mind you, they are in such deep shit, the manager might ignore young players in the desperate bid to get them out of relegation. Fingers crossed he gets some senior game time even if its on loan somewhere.
