borello's performance is very promising he was actually average, albeit promising, in the a league so to perform this well in the buli means he has probably improved as a player I don’t think football is such a linear thing as you’re making it sound. I’m sure he improved in the past 6 months, but a larger part of it is just being the type of player who’s skills translate better to a higher level without depending on shittier slower opposition. He didn’t have huge weaknesses that are exposed at a higher level. I.e. Maclaren who was a bit of a one trick pony, who’s trick doesn’t work against an organised defence.

Wright starting.
2:0 Kaiserslautern. Borello reacts quickly to thread the ball forward for his teammate to cross hard for another to slot it in. Good play by all.

+xLovely goal by Borello. He gets it while standing on the top left corner of the box. He jukes to his right and the shoots a cutting ball sharply left and it beats the keeper with ease. borello's performance is very promising he was actually average, albeit promising, in the a league so to perform this well in the buli means he has probably improved as a player

Darmstadt have massive striker issues. They should check for a clinical finisher from the A League :D

Borello starting in 30 mins vs Darmstadt. Looks to be some good streams, should be a 'good watch' then.

+xCallum Elder now has as many assists this season against the top 6 EPL sides as Eden Hazard, Raheem Stirling, and Mesut Ozil. And he's in League One. I can see wigan losing a few squadies in the next transfer window. elder might get recalled to leicester. great photo.. Rio Ferdinand gave a shout out to Elder on twitter.. https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2018/02/20/wigans-shock-win-over-city-unbelievable-says-aussie-elder

Dylan Ryan starting for Willem II reserves.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Would be happy to see Williams tried at RB again. He appears to natural there. With Sainsbury inside him it'd be a solid pairing.

+xRhys Williams still not a shout for RB? Used to play there and killed it a few times for the socceroos playing there Agree with this. IMO Wiliams' best position was RB. Haven't seen much of him lately though to see if his mobility has degressed.

+xThough Wright was the RB. Milligan last night was also turning into a RB back 3 at times, so he's getting some practice in for that position. As far as LB -> RB they would need a strong right side. A player like Davidson or Meredith are heavily left sided. I thought Goodwin was versatile enough. Davidson is one of the most one footed players' I've ever seen.

Behich/Gersbach/Elder/Meredith (2 on the left, 2 on the right) Sainsbury/Wilkinson/Spiranovic/Williams (CB)
I'm not sold on Wright or Jurman, Ansell, young susnajr or any of the a league RB's
To add some versatility to the 8 defenders... Williams can also play as a DM Gersbach LW possibly.

Wingers can be inverted to cut in and shoot on their stronger foot. Wingers also tuck in a lot more these days to let the fullback overlap. So playing a LB at RB puts them defending on their weaker foot and crossing on the overlap on their weaker foot

+xI know we've got a couple or RB options but with Behich, Elder, Gersbach and Meredith, surely we can play one as a RB? They're all fit a technically able. Much better than Wright or Risdon. Any examples of one playing on the opposite foot? You see it in midfield. How common is it at club level I wonder Gersbach is the most two footed imo

+xTondela currently 1-1 with Sporting in the 98th minute, Ansell still on the bench unfortunately. 99th minuute winner from ten man Sporting. Shoulda played Ansell. At least their boutique stadium is absolutely rocking.

+x+x+x+x+x+xDougall starting. Goodwin not in squad. Goodwin is a decent player. These large benches in Holland are a bit of an issue. Important for him is just to play wherever in the world. I see him as a valuable extended squad member for Australia if required. Behich with another full 90. I honestly see Goodwin as having dropped well down the pecking order with having played bugger all. Petratos, Nabbout, Arzani are all playing at a higher level in the A League than what Goodwin ever produced when in Australia and the likes of Mabil, Ruka, Gol Gol is getting game time in Europe. I can't see a way in which he goes to the world cup I agree with this. Real shame because I see Goodwin as a pretty decent talent. Has to re-boot his career somewhere before it's too late. He is 26 so I'd say post World Cup a move should be beckoning for him. Being absent from game day squads of a team rooted to the bottom of the Eredivise for most part of the season hardly screams out pick me for Australia. Not sure where you're getting that he's absent from match day squads for most part of the season? He's only missed 1 match day squad this season and that was their most recent game. He's been in the match day squad for 23 of their 24 games this season and has played in 18 of those games with 11 starts, 7 games off the bench and 5 games where he was an unused sub. For such a large squad that game time ratio doesn't read too poorly. Sparta are also struggling so it's only natural the coach can be a bit panicky and try new things to save themselves. Not too much stability this season. It reads poorly when he has started 4 games since October. He was a regular at the start of the season and has lost his place, unlike Dougall who has only missed 34 minutes the entire season. If you are good enough, you will get game time and won't be rotated in and out of the squad. Perhaps his game time problem is that he is inconsistant, can have a blinder of a game and get noticed, then expectations are high but he cant continue this on a regular basis. Thought he was a bit like that in the ALeague while at Adelaide. Hopefully he will still get more opportunity at his club as they dont seem to be getting any results without him in the team.

Wigan win! 44' Great block on the edge of the area by @CallumElder_, denies Sergio Aguero who went for the left footed effort. Latics holding firm so far. (0-0)
