So far, CCM have been in a position where they can develop youth and not worry about any penalties for finishing at the bottom of the ladder whatsoever, and not only have they given us Jedinak, Ryan and Rogic but they've even won trophies.

If they were in a different situation, they would play their hand accordingly, rather than continue as they have. That may well mean even more development of youth, as it would be the most efficient way of ensuring survival on a budget.

Yes but as has been pointed out... Most of CCM's player success stories were recruits from WSW prior to their entry, such is the case for the ones you've named. Except for Rogic... he's from Canberra.

That might well be the case but they still have to scouted, signed, developed and be given an opportunity to progress.

Every other team had to same opportunity to do so and we’re probably more resourced to do it.

yeah I don't buy into that argument. what is then point of owning and running a club that isn't competitive? not to mention what finishing on the bottom every season will do to its fan base. That won't change when pro/rel comes.

Like to see  Redcliffe team to rival Roar. An instant derby right there! There is no derby with Canberra coming in, although, I have nothing personal with this  team if they came in.

Great article. Just highlights the urgent need for a second division, and hopefully the a-league owners are quick to expand to 14 teams after Macarthur enter next year. Canberra is a must, and then it's a toss up between 3-4 other bids for the 14th licence. 

Just saw on facebook that they will be building an 11.5k seater stadium on the sunshine coast...is there potential for a team there? Design looked quite similar to Central Coast stadium but with no seats behind both goals.

An interesting point in the article is that the construction cost is estimated at $6,400 per seat.

Yep, SE were an atrocious bid on many levels. No community involvement. Spending big on well known external advisors. Just bucket loads of Chinese money. 
Money is an important part of a bid in a league which is financially struggling, but it can't be the ONLY deciding factor. Macarthur had a stadium, locals wanting a team, financial backing and so far have looked like a promising addition to the league. WU have been ok. Results wise good, but playing in Geelong is just stupid and they shouldn't have been allowed in until their stadium was ready. 

A second division is a must. Get it setup and let it grow and mature a bit, see out any teething problems, then look at P+R

Played around with google maps, Bournemouth's 11k seater Dean Court fits inside the land set aside by the council for Team 11 adjacent to Dandenong Station. I did a quick photoshop: 


I don't know what Bournemouth paid when they fully rebuilt the stadium in 2001, and I know you can double that price for Australia in 2020, but surely it'd be less than the $170k they went begging to the government for last minute during their bid. The land is 150m north to south, while Dean Court measured 148m, but would leave plenty of room to expand the side grandstands later if needed.

This article is from before the fourth stand was built, but obviously it would be the cheapest; there's a quote in there that it was only to cost 60k pounds as it probably doesn't have any back of house facilities. The wing with the change rooms, offices, vip and media facilities etc. would obviously have taken up the lion's share of the 6.5m.

Pity the author of the article didn't know about palm trees and inflatable sauce bottles.

I think its fair to say it heaps when your a country of 320 million people have 50 states each with a major city or 2 with a large population and most having a multi millionaire/billionaire type figure willing to fund and support the club.

Logistics are a hurdle but imagine the dollars on offer with one or two Asian teams in the A League, as teams 15 &/or 16; teams 13 &14 could be something like Canberra and Peninsula or say, Sunshine Coast. This might unlock the sleepy giant!

it would be great if 2 teams came straight in for 21/22. hopefully they dont leave the process too late.

The focus should be getting a 2nd tier underway and then promoting a couple of clubs after a few years to the top tier of they meet certain criteria.
