Take it easy. Its not denial. You can't call something fact unless you have proof. Any news/police report hasn't said what mack said. I haven't seen any footage. Its possible and perhaps likely we WILL find out. Until then stop talking as though its fact.

I've seen plenty of random fights after football games that haven't been supporters/casuals/whatever or are from other clubs not involved (including clubs from other countries).

Until we know what we are talking about, you are just assuming, and that helps no one.

I was in Adelaide last year when they lost 4-2 and whilst marching back to the city they were throwing rocks at cars if they had people chanting go Adelaide and such...not exactly the wisest thing to do in hostile territory. About four or five of them started chasing down a car closer to Hindley street and forced the car to run a red out of fear.

Whilst I agree that it shouldn't be ignored. What accountability does your average family of 4 who go to watch Del Piero every week owe? None.

Obviously if the kid was a 'Sydney fan', then it's really bad for the sport. However, until facts are released from a neutral source, we can only hope the victim gets well and justice is done. We also as fans and people passionate about the growth of our game, need to be aware that things like this happen and that we Should make every effort to stop them.

I just hope MV fans have the maturity and dignity to not retaliate at the next encounter.

This.

I WAS THERE

I was waiting at the set of lights to cross the road at South Dowling St with two mates and one of their partners while walking back from the game when there was some shouting from either side of the road between two groups.

One group on the east side of South Dowling was a bunch of guys no older than 18, they were not wearing any type of supporter gear, with numbers around 20-30.

The other group was made up of males of the age around 30-40, wearing Melbourne Victory supporter gear. Around 15 and 2 of them were wearing the hi vis yellow away kit of previous seasons, and were antagonising the young guys.

Allegedly these Melbourne Victory supporters were chased across the opposing park by this group of young guys, as told to me by one of the Victory supporters.

There was a small scuffle (not involving the 2 trouble makers) in the middle of the intersection of Cleveland and South Dowling, bouncers from the nearby Bat and Ball were telling the Victory supporters to get off the street and take refuge in the pub. To no avail, they continued to retaliate.

The younger group were obviously just looking for trouble also, I don't believe they had anything to do with football.

A brawl broke out, involving up to 30 people, serious stuff, right in the middle of the very busy intersection, there would have been around 200 witnesses.

The reason why I don't believe the younger group were followers of any club were because strangely they started fighting amongst themselves also. Just young kids in a frenzy starting to punch anyone near them. Total chaos.

I believe these kids were just part of some gang on the walk to cause trouble.

This had nothing to do with football.

Why do I say this?

Because I was standing amongst the Victory supporters simply because of timing, and I was wearing proudly my SFC kit, and not once did I even get a sideways glance from any of them. I was never under threat.

Just as I saw it through my own eyes.

I don't think people are shunning the possibility that it was someone who supports Sydney, but the issue most Sydney fans in this thread have is being grouped and associated with the culprit. Making this a "Sydney FC fans are scum" thread should not be the aim of the thread or any individual posts.

Crazy, crazy stuff. Never thought I'd see this type of moronic behaviour on the streets after a club football match in Australia. What exactly are these idiots brawling over??
Violence seems to be a regular occurrence at these games unfortunately as well as the usual excuses, denials, cover-ups that accompany it.

The RBB were criticised for not attempting to prevent flares by pointing out the culprits. Are you suggesting that the Cove is trying to cover up the people who did it (if indeed they somehow do know)?

Comparing flares to a stabbing. FFS!! ](*,) ](*,)

Where did I do that? I was relating the blame that's being attached to the each supporter group. I'm just saying the RBB were shown to have a problem with flares because they refused to act on it. This isn't a Cove problem as I don't see what they can do to control it.

sydcro - Its not about stereotyping the RBB, its about their stance on flares and why that drew criticism. I'm not sure what responsibility you believe the Cove has here.

Edited by Nico: 10/11/2013 01:10:25 PM

Trying not to get sidetracked, but it's not that the RBB refused to act on flares, they did what they could and were willing to do, but as long as it remained easy for anyone to come into the RBB on match day as they please it was always going to remain a problem.

That's why it comes as no surprise this year that flares at home games have all but disappeared so far since the RBB became a members only area and they stopped selling match day tickets in there.

Anyway, this isn't what this thread was about.

Not really. Your original post and thread title went on about how the Cove attacked and stabbed a Victory fans without supplying any evidence to back it up. Rather than reporting an incident you used it as an opportunity to bash Sydney FC fans without a sound knowledge about what happened.

When you were called up on it, you edited the first post. If you did nothing wrong, why change what you wrote?

When mack created the thread, he had sound evidence... You didn't, but apparently that's his fault ???

He supplied no evidence. Rather he posted a claim attacking the name of the Cove and all SFC supporters without backing it up.

I was on here when it happened. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I didn't see your name online.

 Of course not, just pointing out how much the tune has changed. Last season SFC fans couldn't wait to tar thousands with the actions of a minority of idiots. Now when it turns out it could be one of their own it's all about his it's only a few idiots

Well then maybe rather than an opportunity to bash Sydney, this should be a lesson to their fans (as well as Victory and WSW fans) that it is the minority and the stupid comments aren't necessary, uneducated and plain wrong.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

30+ years ago I used to trudge through Redfernm, on the way to the station after a game, (sometimes from training) and would occasionaly cop a bit of "soccer poof" abuse from twits in the area. Usually they were in groups of 3 or 4 and often enough wearing Souths jumpers.

Learned to avoid the corners with pubs and to always head for Central rather than to Redfern after a couple uncomfortable moments.

Know nothing about this incident, but it brings back a few memories. Any chance the Melbourne fans ran into "Soccer haters" rather than SFC "fans"?
Will come out in the wash I guess.

Not trying to make this a club vs club or fans v fans thing, but you Sydney White Eagles fans are legitimately hilarious. Last season if a small minority of WSW fans did something you'd be the first to jump on and go on and on about how it's an RBB problem and blaming the RBB, but as soon as it looks like it's one of your own fans you're all suddenly about not judging the many by the actions of a few

The RBB were criticised for not attempting to prevent flares by pointing out the culprits. Are you suggesting that the Cove is trying to cover up the people who did it (if indeed they somehow do know)?

Erm maybe because there has been no evidence so far that it was even a SFC fan that committed the crime?

unlike the video of preteens in wanderers shirts that were throwing bottles at a lone sfc fan at a cafe during a march?

To the person saying I made the thread without knowing the facts... the facts were right. SFC fans, casuals, extremely likely to be a sub-group of the cove, attacked and stabbed MV fans.

I edited the post to add in an official police report. The one that confirms an incident took place. Everything else was correct. ;)

You didn't just add the report, you still changed the title and removed your original comment.
