Ahhh, now i have a better idea who you are. I remember reading this article of yours on the roar. http://www.theroar.com.au/2014/08/01/the-grass-isnt-always-greener-when-you-upgrade-your-home/

Truth be told you won't find too many followers of Scandinavian football on here, let alone hammarby.

Highlights from last nights 6-0 win

It was pissing down with rain and I almost shit my pants when lightning struck the stadium before game and was followed by a massive boom.

The opponent was Syrianska.
An ethnic Assyrian club.
There are 2 in the league (Assyriska also play)

I don't care about ethnic clubs, there are quite a few Kurdish clubs too.
It's not a big deal and there's more trouble with other cities.

:-"
Draupnir is using a Bajen avatar at the moment, so that's encouraging.
I'm promoting my club. I invite everybody to support them.
I want to at least inform people. If you ever meet any Swedes you can say you know about Hammarby.

Yep, I am a Bajen fan. Any sane person from Stockholm should be! Just some info for melbourne_terrace and others that don't know much about about the Scandinavian leagues, but Hammarby currently has the biggest fan club in Sweden, even though in recent years we've been playing in the second division thanks to a whole lot of shit conspiring against us. We probably have the richest owner of any club in Sweden, or Scandinavia overall tbh (The Anschutz group who own LA Lakes, LA Galaxy and a heap more).

Some players that have played for us in more recent years that fans of world football might've heard of are guys like Ante Covic, Sebastián Eguren, Kennedy Bakircioglü (known more just as Kennedy), Alexander Östlund, Erkan Zengin, Björn Runström and Fredrik Stoor.

There's quite a few Scandinavians around on here actually, there's definitely a few guys that regularly post from Denmark.

I also agree with Scott's article about moving stadiums. I didn't want that. No one did. Söderstadion will always be Hammarby's spiritual home. Now it's full of douchebags dancing along to shit like Avicii - well, up until a few weeks ago.

EDIT: RIP Tomten.

1-1 last night against Varberg.
Disappointing. Shit load of rain
3rd consecutive penalty. 3 misses in 3 games is unacceptable.
Goal keeper Hopf ball watching and indecisive as usual which helped their goal.
Dodgy penalty.
Onside goal called offside.
Kennedy another stunning goal.

First half was crap.....
Big shock ZLOJUTRO was involved.
Conditions were shocking, so it made it hard for Linus to make an impact. He should have started with Rennie. A lot of the players looked tired considering the conditions on Sunday as well.
Our away form is quite dire. New game on Sunday.
F*cking Uppsala maffia

Sundsvall play Ljungskile tonight so hoping for a draw.

In other news Ängelholm is about to go bankrupt. Hammarby has lost twice to them, this is good for us...... However I don't want to be promoted this way. Or have to hear it from other fans. Decision will come next week. Ängelholm have seeked money from the local council. "We are not a bank" was their reply.

Table today
1) Hammarby 48 poäng (25 matches)
2) Ljungskile 48 (24)
3) Gif Sundsvall 47 (24)
4) Östersund 43 (25)
5) Jönköpings Södra 42 (25)

from today if they go bankrupt
1) Hammarby 48 poäng
2) Östersund 43 (skulle möta Ängelholm i sista omgången). would have played final round
3) Ljungskile 42
4) Jönköpings Södra 42
5) Gif Sundsvall 41.

Been a long time coming with Ängelholm tbh. Totally agree that it sucks to go into first place through that kind of situation, but I'm not going to complain. Nice 5 point gap.

I will seriously LOL if Östersund manage to get promoted.

I'm not sure about Ängelholm. My neighbor comes from there. So he supports Landskrona. Apparently everyone supports them or Helsingborg. But everyone supports Rögle hockey. Nazi shit town (its the big nazi/skinhead town in sweden).

The last few years i know we've saved Ljungskile from going bankrupt when we have played them first. I think in Superettan it would almost be better to boycott away games and not give the small clubs money. They even charge us more for being away fans.
Sweden is a Robin hood state. Us in Stockholm pay for the rest of the country.

Sundsvall 0-0 Ljungskile
Maic Sema's "little" brother plays for Ljungskile. Its pretty obvious who got all the food.

I would like Östersund above Sundsvall. That would be good.

For everybody who thinks the FFA is f*cked.... Here in Sweden last year a player from Sundsvall was on the tv show 'Idol' , which was on the same channel as the 2nd division. They moved FOOTBALL MATCHES so that f*cker could sing to 12 year old girls and be on the tv. SO F*CK SUNDSVALL

Ljungskile drew tonight meaning unfortunate Sundays game against GAIS will not result in promotion upon winning.
This does however mean we only need 4 points from the last 2 games.

Good job by the fans yesterday.
4500 fans travelled about 500km for the second division game.
Our last home game has been sold out for several weeks so we will have over 30000

Starting to freak out now. Last match of the season on Sunday. 3 points or a loss for Ljunskile and we go up.
5 years I've been waiting for this game.

The worst we can finish is 3rd. In Sweden the top 2 teams go up, 2 bottom come down and the 3rd plays the 3rd bottom over a 2 legged playoff. I can't handle a playoff it will be too stressful.

you both live in Stockholm? That's so cool. How long have you guys been there? Are you Aussies residing in Sweden or Swedes who have lived in Australia?

I was in Stockholm just over a month ago and I absolutely loved it. But I really regret not researching more about Swedish football before I went. You see there was a big match in which Hammarby played at home. The atmosphere in Stockholm and around the stadium looked terrific. But in my ignorance, the first I learnt about it was seeing all these fans in green and white scarves around Stockholm. And I was only in Stockholm for six nights.

I could definitely see myself living in Sweden. I was also a massive fan of Göteborg. It's the European city which most reminds me of Melbourne (not that I've seen all that much of Europe). I'm not sure whether I prefer Stockholm or Göteborg.

Did it remind you of Melbourne because they have trams.

I am Australian living in Stockholm for 13 years. I came here when I was 22 and stayed. I had no prior connection (ancestral) to Sweden.

Gothenburg is a wet cold place and everybody is a fisherman and they are all called Glen

Nej, Göteborg är bäst!! Just kidding, I don't know either of them well enough to have a real preference. I can't explain why Göteborg reminded me of Melbourne. The trams probably did influence it, as did the cold, wet weather. But there's something about the atmosphere of Göteborg , the cultural element, the friendliness of people, probably the upper-middle-class element of it which I saw (granted, I saw it through privileged, touristy perspective) that just kind of gave me that vibe. I'm not the first person to say that either. Not saying Stockholm doesn't have those things, mind you. It was just a feeling I got about Göteborg.

I love the Stockholm-Göteborg rivalry. I worked with a lot of Scandis in Cyprus over your summer. They're always digging into each other about that rivalry. When I told this hairdresser that I was flying to Stockholm, she just laughed derisively and said it doesn't count as Sweden. Apparently she interrogates anybody from Stockholm lol.

Did you find it easy to stay in Sweden in terms of visa and stuff like that? I don't have a European passport (I curse the British Govt for not allowing grandchildren of British migrants to have British passports at birth). But I'd love to live in Sweden one day.

The reality is those farmers think Stockholm is full of snobs. When in fact it's the farmers coming to Stockholm who have money and aren't very social. Alot more people in Gothenburg at better off than here. Except we don't have the same crime as them. With the motor cycle gangs and such.

Ifks biggest rival are aik. I hate Malmö more but it's pretty close.
I find that Gothenberg people are hillbillies and insecure.

I don't have an eu passport. If you are under 30 and Australian you can get a 1 year work visa.
A condition of the visa is that you can't be in the country when you apply for a new visa.
Sweden has strong sambo (de facto) laws so they see it like marriage.
I applied as a partner for a second visa. Had to wait 8 months outside Sweden. Then that visa was 6 months, then 1 year, then 2 years, then permanent.
If you live in a place for a year you should know if you want to return. If you don't have a partner you could always get a friend to go with you to immigration=d>

Yeah I've met quite of a lot of people from Stockholm who were absolutely fantastic. Whether that hairdresser believes what she says or is just taking the piss or both, it didn't ring true. I mean for instance my distant relatives who live in Stockholm, whom I had never met before, insisted that I stay with them as soon as they knew I was coming to their city. Basically my experience with folks from Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö, etc. is that they were pretty much all fantastic. In Cyprus I worked with lots of Brits. Some were great, some are some of my best mates now. But I found I just gelled so well the Swedes so well. Lots of other Aussies I know have a deep affinity for, a sort of connection with, Canada, some have that affinity for the UK, some for Germany, for me it's Sweden.

Thanks for the advice about immigration. Gotta get myself a nice Swedish girlfriend first, haha. Actually I think I've found one I like. Whether she fancies me, I'm not so sure, though. You never know.

I think the other obstacle to my living there would be that career-wise, the course I'm doing isn't really conducive to working in non-Commonwealth countries. I'm doing my BA at the moment. And I think (but I'm not absolutely sure) that I want to do postgrad law after. I've always wanted to be a barrister. I don't really see how Australian law is compatible with Swedish law. Maybe it's possible to do some form of law-related work in Sweden. I don't know.

But what I am tempted to do is to take a gap year, once I finish this degree and before I start my next degree. I might do that gap year thing you mentioned. That would be pretty sick. If I can be reasonably confident that delaying doing law by a year won't hurt my job prospects unduly, then I'll be all over that. And just go with the flow for a bit.

I'd say finish all your studies first, it gives you better options without the stress. Then perhaps you could get a job in Sweden with export import law I don't know. There are many companies that have English as an official language. It is tough out in the world.

I don't mind Assyriska. Have a few friends who support them. Was even taken to the Assyrian club house and match on their derby once against Syrianska.
I don't like Suryoye even though you're all cousins.
Although Suleyman Sleyman is a club legend.
Never cared for Chanko because he had played for Djurgåren.
However he was very good for us and IMO wasn't picked much for the national team because he was Assyrian. He actually ended up playing a few times for Syria.

Assyriska were lucky and near collapse and bankruptcy.

Yeh I don't like Syrianska too. Would love to go to one of the derbies in a sold out 7,000 capacity stadium ☺. Thanks for the pic.
Hopefully you guys do well next season. Is it too early to judge what sort of expectations Hammarby will have regarding survival or top half ect.

Personally after 5 years in Superettan I would be happy to finish 13th from the 16 teams.
However, with the manager we have now, the fans and momentum I would be aiming top 8.

We had 12k season ticket holders but averaged over 20k. The most in scandianvia... in the 2nd division.
More than Copehagen, AIK, Malmö and Rosenborg.

Next year hopefully we get 18-20k season tickets (the stadium holds 30k) then it's a rolling effect. More fans = more money = better players. Players want to play for us and always have, but have been hesitant whilst we were in the 2nd division.
It will be tough, but pretty much every new player we have gotten in has been superb and Linus hasn't hit his full stride again.
Not long before the rest of the crappier players' contracts go out.

I want top 8 and at least semi in the cup... Actually I want to win the cup and be released out into Europe again.

We have never had the refs on our side. They have always stated they "won't be intimidated by the crowd".
We went about 4 seasons with more freekick against us than for at home, the only team in the comp.
Every team will be dying to beat us at home too.

I see some good days ahead.

Hammarby has only ever won the league once. It would be amazing. For now I'd be happy to get to go on an away trip to Europe again, they are epic.

F'cking cops.
At one point they were saying that they would make flares legal at games because its impossible to police. Now they came out with this crap

Bengal = flare

After yesterday's meeting between the police, the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) and Swedish elite football (Sef) nailed the strategy should be communicated clearly:
- Our ultimate weapon in the illicit pyrotechnics use is to dissolve the arrangement, play on any other day or play finished without an audience, says Isabel Thoren at the National Police.

The debate about the Bengals and pyrotechnics have been burning in the fall. Recently, the Cooperative Council (police, SvFF, Sef and judiciary) seven points how the illegal use will be prevented.
Today the group had a meeting how this is applied in practice. And the strategy is clear: Clubs should be able to apply for legal pyrotechnics, illegal burning should be removed.
Is it fair to summarize your meeting with you to open for legal pyrotechnics use but it gets tougher measures against illegal?
- Exactly so, says Isabel Thoren at the National Police.

So basically 1 flare and they stop the match. If you are losing you can stop the match. Everybody has to leave the stadium.

Our security officer

HAMMARBY
Goran Rickmer, security
- I've seen this sjupunkterslistan (from the national strategy) and I have not much to say, it feels really complicated. There is already a law for organizers of public events, make sure everyone takes their responsibilities in place to come up with a lot hittepåregler. Since the Bengali firing a misdemeanor, which means that we as a club can not act. Then it's apparently easier to find a collective punishment than addressing the real problem. No, I am allergic to collective punishment.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS

In theory you can go to your opponents end and light a flare.

Also Kennedy has signed for 2 more seasons.

Just need a new GK and Central Defender and we are looking quite tasty already

The simple answer is it is f*cked.
We for some reason sacked our manager during the season then hired a crap guy that lost 9 from 10 games. The only game we won was because he was off on stress leave. Another team from Stockholm won the league that season and the other team was in the relegation zone all season until we sunk like a stone. One of my friends was crying after the game. I felt like many others empty.
It's not only tough you have to take that crap into your workplace if you are from a city with more than 1 team.
Our problem was that we sold our best player (midfielder) and never replaced him. Many before that either. They brought players in from their junior team. So when we got relegated we had a shit team. It wasn't a situation where players just didn't perform. They were shit.
If you can imagine supporting Melbourne Victory and then being worried that you won't win at home against Hobart.
The first season down we had some a c'nt who had one of the other Stockholm teams tattooed on his back. As well as Jesper Blomqvist. He actually played some games and at the age of about 39-40 was our best player.

In retrospect it was good. Because of the threats etc. People stood down. It went from a situation where insiders were using the club to make money instead of helping the club. The difference is about $7 million AUD in tv money. We almost sunk so low that we were 5 minutes away from having a division 1 playoff. That would have been the end of the club. Bankruptcy.

We have cleaned out all the shit now. The players, the board, the image.

Relegation is a horrible thing. But every club should earn the right to be in the league. Not just because they are one of the biggest.

Second year in a row we make the top 25. Vote Hammarby

http://m.ultras-tifo.net/news/3110-top-25-tifo-actions-in-2014.html

We will never have flares all the way around the stadium and unfortunately because we are now playing in an indoor arena with a retractable roof the smoke hardly clears quick enough and there is the risk they will evacuate the stadium when all the fire alarms go off :) no excuses though.

This is my photo from the halfway line. Doesn't do it justice though.

Like ive linked earlier it will be interesting to see what happens this year. Last the police were open to making flares legal at stadiums (because it is hard (dangerous) to police)
Then they sensationally came out with the FA and said there is to be zero tolerance and games will start to be called off.

Haglund sees itself as an essentially defensive player and do not mind taking the step from midfield into the back line, where the coach Nanne Bergstrand will probably place him. Even as a central defender, he hopes to take advantage of everything he's learned since moving from Brommapojkarna in 2010.

- In the Netherlands (Heerenveen 2010-11) technology. The pieces I improved there. In IFK (2011-14), I became a bit more of a leader, who ran the team, he says.

It was very Hammarby attracted. Haglund mention Bergstrand, the team's playing style and the fans as three contributing factors to move. He is on his third day of the association and already knows that he is in the right place.

"Good for man"
Haglund thrived in IFK Gothenburg too but says his past and current club is "night and day".

- If IFK structurally professional, almost military, so Hammarby is familiar, secure - still as professional but in a different way. It is good for man. It feels good, says Haglund.

He does not want to give anything in terms of position promise.

- We're playing good football. We will draw up the pace. We'll certainly take us into the headlines on our way. Sure there are people around who can put up performance but there's not us. The team has won the Premier League but we know it starts with tougher opponents out there. Then you should have high expectations. One must not stop dreaming, he says.

Bajen cruised against Norwegian champion-dotted pole with last fired
Hammarby played 2-2 against Norwegian champion Molde on La Manga. In overtime dotted Afat_44 Besara pole in what could have been a winning shot.
-A good performance though, says Nanne bergstrand.

Locals came to game the week after the crushing victory against Assyrian with 8-1, but Molde turned out to be a far more difficult opposition. The Norwegians grabbed the baton right away and looked into creating a handful of chances in the opening 10 minutes. But it took half an hour before the first goal came. My Hill Thomas H Christensen got into a duel in the penalty area and caused a blowdown that failed to talk away.

From eleven meters were Harmeet Singh stone safe, with a shot that was almost in it didn't help.
But Liverpool turned on the match by Linus Hallenius first ripped away just before the break and equalized with the left, and then dotted with a lifting pole a bit in the second half. On the return showed Måns Söderqvist and put 2-1 for the greenish white.

Same Hallenius had since a golden mode to go down 3-1, but although the Amadiyah Rennies services gave him almost open goal did not hold Hallenius shot, which passed above the crossbar.

Instead, receipted Sander Svendsen for Molde and nailed the final score to 2-2.
Hammarby, however, was close to getting the last word, when Afat_44 with the last dotted Besara bolltouch pole.

Coach Nanne bergstrand was relatively satisfied afterwards.

"We did not really into the match in the first half, but it got much better after the break and we gradually worked up ourselves in terms of performance. As a whole I give us clear accepted, not least because it was the first grass match of the year, "he told the Club's own TV channel.

Particularly positive he saw on "Bajens" presspel, which according to bergstrand helped identify several chances.

-It looked amazing, just look at our 2-1-goal. Where we win the ball inside the penalty area almost offensively and manage to get to the finish. Same thing for a lot of other jobs as well. The requirement we impose on our four offensive positions is that they should work hard and in the right way, and they did really today.

Hammarby is in the Spanish La Manga to equip the face of the premier division resurgence.
25 players are on the training camp, one of them being IFK Haninge / Brandbergen-talent Dusan Jajic, 16. Hammarby invited the offensive midfielder test game the other week and chose to take him to La Manga.
- We have followed him a long time and feel that it is becoming more and more relevant, says sports director Mats Jingblad, who is impressed by what he's seen so far.
- Yes, I think he takes for himself in a good way. Obviously, it is a little difference in tempo, and the kid is only 16 years, but he is very far advanced for his age and has received good of the team. So it works fine.
"Great Experience"
Dusan "Dulle" Jajic was current for both AIK and Djurgården summer of 2013. Then, suddenly, the phone rang. Arsenal had seen him at the Boy elitlägret and become so curious that they invited him to audition.
- It was a great experience, really awesome. It is one of the world's biggest clubs, so to come down to their Fitness ... it was fantastic, says Jajic after a workout on Tuesday.
After testing the game with Arsenal went to Italian Atalanta.
- I wanted to see what it was like in Italy, how the style of play suited me. It went really well when I was there, saying "Dulle".
To play in Hammarby
But there was thus no transition to either Arsenal or Atalanta. Giant Promise To take a different route to the top - and now hope for a contract with Hammarby.
- It feels really good, there is a good atmosphere in the group, all the guys are really awesome and has really taken me in a good way. They make sure you feel good, and then play better too.
How dare you pure gameplay?
- Of course it's a faster pace, but I'm starting to get into it, says 16-year-old, who has not yet received any notification about whether Hammarby will offer him a contract or not.
- Not yet. We'll talk about it when it's the right position, then we will see.
Do you have other options or this is where you want to go?
- I'd rather go here. Hammarby feels like a really nice club.

But AEG also has a 49 percent stake in Hammarby Football since the 2001 and 2004 saved Hammarby's economy by investing a total of 21.5 million. The reason is the club's importance to the Globe area and its arenas such as AEG power.
The Americans have often served as a silent owner but when Hammarby went like most heavily in Superettan other year chose AEG to act. With new Tele2 Arena on time was needed allsvenskt Law and the solution was to use the skills in American LA Galaxy to lift Hammarby. To say the least idiotic idea.
Americans were given important positions both on the training bench and in the boardroom but the total lack of knowledge of Swedish football was clearly visible and there was not a success. Only when Hammarby changed its strategy and invested routine off Swedish faced last season it became advancement.
No units Meca Football Race
The match on Monday was very similar to the way Hammarby walked. On one side stood the commercial US team with great economy and fast solutions. On the other hand, the Swedish team with a non-existent economy, but now suddenly with a workable long term. There was a meeting in many ways between the good and the ugly in football.
I want to have the member-owned associations that will bring joy rather than money. Therefore, I am very happy that it's Hammarby and not the LA Galaxy who play in the Premier League. Just as it is AIK and not Manchester United. Or IFK Göteborg and not the PSG. Nor is it unimportant to recall this very day.
On Monday we heard namely by the news that Swedish ice hockey baptized qualifying game from Hockeyallsvenskan to Swedish Hockey League to Meca Hockey Race. Never let the football end up there.
Hammarby won the match AEG organized and that Nanne Bergstrand did not seem to like to play. How it happened actually feels not very important right now. LA Galaxy flying home and nothing was renamed Meca Football Race.

Saturday 1pm CET

This is the last time we played aik scumbags. Youll note the police standing close to them pelting rocks onto our fans

We got em the year before. This was the refs fault for causing a riot. Their keep gets some pyro action at 4.40

This when we sent them down in 2004 and they invaded the pitch

This is when police fired a shot inside the stadium because they pulled out a knife in a match against our aek athens friends

This is them attacking syrianska

Quote:
History of violence
The black-and-gold clad fans of AIK have a reputation for bad behavior. AIK fans stormed the field last year during a derby match with Djurgården, forcing a 15-minute stop in the game. The Union of European Football Associations fined the club $21,000 last April for fan behavior during a UEFA Champions League match against Rosenborg. In September, UEFA hit AIK with an $82,000 fine after fans attacked the bus carrying players from Bulgarian side Levski Sofia following a scoreless draw in a Europa League match.
AIK officials blame ultra-right-wing gangs that hide among legitimate fans for many of the problems. A secretive group that calls itself The Firm promised violence during the Syrianska match in posts on an AIK Internet discussion board. The group often uses racially charged language in its posts. Södertälje has a large Muslim population while Syrianska is a traditional club of Arab Christians living in Sweden.
The brazen attack reverberated throughout the Allsvenskan as the SvFF moved toward adopting a “no tolerance” rule on fan violence. The federation has yet to work out the details, but a post on the SvFF website hinted that teams with a history of fan violence or that proved unable to control its fans could potentially play its matches in empty stadiums. Such a move would be an economic death sentence for any club.
At the same time, AIK faces the potential loss of six points for the attack on Wärnmark. If the Svff deducts the points, it would drop AIK from seventh to 13th place in the standings and reduce the club’s eight points to two. It could be very difficult for AIK to remain in the Allsvenskan with a points deduction and it would be the latest blow to a club which has endured tumult on and off the field the past four years.

http://www.nordstjernan.com/news/sports/3294/

Time after time they get away with shit because Lennart Johansson who was their ex president and Swedish FAs ex president before he was uefa president. They play at the national arena for pretty much free. They get allocated refs who used to stand with their ultras. They get minimal fines from the fa even uefa. The incident against Levski 2 fans assulted and then took mobile phones and stamped on them from UEFA Officials. I hate those c'unts.

Tomorrow there will be incidents on the street and in the stadium.

Ive heard they will have their roof closed as it is a risk for falling ice. I dont know where all the smoke from the pyros will go though.

Hammarby vs Elfsborg in Borås in the Svenska Cupen on Sunday!!!!

If I can get a decent stream, I shall watch with interest.

At this stage Elfsborg are the team I'm "barracking" for in Swedish football.

Elfsborg arent as good anymore because more clubs including us have astroturf now. So they lost their major advantage. Add to that Taco Svensson is getting older every year.

I think a draw. Then us in extra time.

I'm going to England this Friday, considering how close everything is I might even come and watch the derby between Syrianska and Assyriska and while there I was hoping you guys had a home game that weekend but instead it's a away game against Orebro.
Just my luck I would have loved to go to a home game.

Hammarbybacken have been looking for a reinforcing attack time. Now writes Expressen that only details away to finish with Imad Khalili.

3-0 win. Finally.

I saw a NZ flag yesterday in the away section. Apparently D. Keat plays for them.

The story of Hammarby's long-awaited return to Sweden's Allsvenskan

Hammarby fans pack the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm as their club returned to Sweden's first division for the first time since 2009.
"I have waited so long for this day, and it's great that it has finally come." How fitting those words were in Stockholm on Saturday, as Hammarby fans celebrated their return to Allsvenskan, Sweden's top division, after five long seasons away.

Those words come from a song titled "Just Idag Ar Jag Stark" ("Today I am strong"), performed by Kenta Gustafsson, which has long been established as the club's anthem. Hammarby fans identify with it completely. It's not uncommon to see the song's lyrics tattooed on supporters.

Kenta, a huge Hammarby fan himself, died in 2003 at the age of 54, but his legacy lives on. The anthem is performed before each and every Hammarby game, sung with passion by the whole crowd in a performance that can easily be compared to "You'll Never Walk Alone" at Anfield. Just listen to the atmosphere at the brand new Tele2 Arena ahead of last season's final fixture against Jonkoping in the video below.

The stadium was full that day, and a stranger would never have guessed that the game took place in Superettan, Sweden's second division. Incredibly, Hammarby attracted higher average attendances than any Swedish top-flight club in 2014. Their average crowd stood at 20,451, compared to 16,446 for city rivals AIK and just 14,090 for champions Malmo.

That sums up Hammarby -- the club is all about supporters, the perfect team for football romantics to fall in love with. Founded 100 years ago, they were only crowned champions once in their history, taking the title against all odds in 2001 under coach Soren Cratz, who became a living legend.

"To this day, that triumph feels strange," Peter Stempel, a fervent Hammarby supporter, told ESPN FC. They are not used to winning, and have adapted to just having fun and enjoying the moment. As their saying goes: "We don't care about the table, Bajen are the best anyway." Nobody knows exactly why they call themselves "Bajen," by the way, but that is the nickname.

Hammarby are the club where Nacka Skoglund, the flair player for whom entertaining was always the most important thing and whose performances caught the imagination of Inter fans in the 1950s, grew up. Hammarby's fans were the first in Sweden to start singing in the stadium in the '70s, inspired by English football. A few years later, they even brought some Brazilian touches to Scandinavia, with a samba orchestra playing in the stands of the old Soderstadion during matches.

The club's fans were also the first to march through the streets of Stockholm on the first day of the season. That tradition carried on for many years and has become something of an attraction. On Saturday, at least 10,000 fans in green and white took part in the walk, as some of the main routes had to be closed to traffic. It was filmed by a curious Stockholm resident, who is not a Hammarby supporter but wanted to witness the event known as Bajentaget.

Hammarby have never been a winning team but are one of the biggest clubs in the country and an integral part of Allsvenskan. That is why their relegation in 2009, mostly due to poor management, was a shock. Unsurprisingly, the fans stayed loyal to the players even when they massively underperformed. It is rare to see a standing ovation to the team that has just gone down, but that is exactly what Bajen fans gave their team after they lost in their last home fixture and finished the season rock bottom.

They were not the first major club to get relegated, but while others like AIK and Malmo returned to the top flight immediately, Hammarby's crisis only deepened after the drop. Lacking a winning mentality was crucial in Superettan as well, and in 2011 disaster loomed as the team went agonisingly close to being relegated yet again.

Hammarby needed to win at promotion-hopefuls Angelholm on the last day of the 2011 season to avoid dropping into the third division, and that proved to be a very tough task. Five minutes into injury time, when all hope was lost, Sebastian Bojassen scored with the last kick of the game. Bajen were saved, Bojassen -- who was forced to retire shortly afterwards with a back injury -- will be fondly remembered forever.

"That Angelholm game provided the worst and the best moments of my entire life," says Gustav Gelin, a Hammarby blogger who used to serve as vice president of the Bajen fans' association.

Then, just when they seemingly reached the lowest point imaginable, their greatest idol returned. Kennedy Bakircioglu, one of the most important players when Hammarby won their title in 2001, had an eventful career that took him to FC Twente and Ajax in the Netherlands and Racing Santander in Spain. In the summer of 2012, the prodigal son came back, and fans climbed on the roof just to have a glimpse of him signing the contract.

Fittingly, it was Kennedy who scored the very last goal at the beloved Soderstadion, which was abandoned in the summer of 2013 in favour of the new stadium that Hammarby now share with Stockholm rivals Djurgarden. That day was extremely emotional for all concerned, but there was also hope in the air. Amusingly, Bajen fans call Tele2 Arena the new Soderstadion, refusing to let the past go, while starting the fresh adventure.

The new home, which enabled more fans to visit home games and significantly increased the club's revenues, highlighted the fact that Hammarby were a sleeping giant. Their potential is massive, and that convinced Nanne Bergstrand, one of the most respected and knowledgeable coaches in Sweden, to take on the challenge of managing the club in the beginning of 2014. Begstrand likes long-term projects, having spent 12 years at Kalmar, where he won a sensational title with the trio of Elm brothers in 2008. Next, the 58-year-old wanted to emulate that success at a much more popular club.

Nanne's arrival brought a lot of optimism to Bajen. The squad was completely overhauled and, driven forward by phenomenal attendances, Hammarby overcame a shaky start to finish top of Superettan in a tight battle. They needed to beat Jonkoping on the last day, and thrashed them 5-0 after a stunning rendition of "Just Idag Ar Jag Stark."

And so, after five painful and eventful years, Bajen are back where they belong. On Saturday, their game was the very first fixture of the new season in Sweden, and they won 2-0 against Hacken. Kennedy, the 34-year-old balding captain, scored the first goal of Allsvenskan in 2015.

There is now cautious optimism that Hammarby could be the surprise package in the top half of the table. They won't win anything, of course, because that is not their habit, but they are certain to entertain.

"Hammarby are a club where love is the most important thing," Kristopher Karlsson, who works for the Aftonbladet newspaper, says. "They like a back-heel pass, a beer and a cheeky chant." But aren't those the most fabulous aspects of the game?

Football is not only about Cristiano Ronaldo breaking scoring records -- it is mostly about fans who support their team through good times and bad. It is about thousands of Bajen supporters going on their annual march, humming the song written by Aapo Saask, a Hammarby supporter, and performed by his friend Kenta, who is dead but immortal.

"I look forward to the glorious times," the lyrics go. Let them be glorious.

The march to the stadium goes from the target Götgatan- Folkungagatan at 17.40
The match starts at 19.00

At the moment it is raining sleet, so wear a jacket.

People will be drinking in the park and outdoor pubs from probably 14.00

Go to t-bana station Medborgaplatsen.

We can meet for a beer at 15.00 for an hour or so if youd like.

I don't know any ÖFK players. This is their first ever game in Allsvenskan.

Just watch the 11 guys in green and white.

Note:
- the march is about 2.5km
- there are no toilets on the way
- i would recommend trying to be up the front of the march, near the banner. If you have seats (not standing) you have your place, but the first game is always choas. Expect semi delays going in. That is why you need to keep the pace up. I would recommend when they stop for photos at the intersection before the bridge that you walk ahead after that.

We got Alexssander Medeiros de Azeredo (Alex) on loan from Brazil. He was playing in Thailand last year. Im surprised no Australian teams noticed him. He looks ok to good atm. Linus was a flop after he came back and Khalili was underwhelming last season. Brazilians always have a tough time when they first come to Sweden and train in the snow.

We have an AstroTurf pitch so we should be stronger at home. Our Icelandic goalie is very good. Smárason
looks like a good gain.

Pre season we had 2 cup derbies so its hard to tell where we are. Häcken broke us down fairly easily for the 3-2

Hammarby I would say will finish 4-8 I think. We traditionally have the refs against us. We have over several seasons been the only home team to have more free kicks against us. Refs don't want to feel "intimidated" by the crowd, and try to show they are in charge.

Every second year is a tournament half way through the season (wc & euros) so the season gets broken up. Plus you can end up playing many midweek games. It's tough to keep up momentum.

I am always hopeful but you should not support Hammarby if you expect to win.

There is also a rumor your cousin Besara may come back from Turkey. This would help, he was in fine form (finally) just before he left.

As you know I'm a Assyriska fan not Hammarby  but honestly I have a habit of checking livescores and always hope you guys win. I just love the fan culture you guys have and the pics you normally post are insane.
However because of my lack of knowledge of the players in Sweden I have no idea who's expected to be favourites each season and even regarding Assyriska itself I have no idea. I mean I read who they have signed but hardly never know what to expect. I normally just expect the worst so I'm not left disappointed with Assyriska lol.
I've been following them on livescores for years but just got into streaming games last season while I was in London and even when I got back home so I'm pumped for the opener against the new Kurd team promoted.
But yeh as for Hammarby I have a soft spot for them and I know one day I will be there to watch them play. I just think with such a huge fan base in Sweden the club will soon build itself back up to where it should be and start winning some titles.

Hammarby have never won the cup and only won the league once.

What has changed is that we have moved stadiums. We will probably average over 25000 from now on. Hammarby will build a strong foundation now and be a force in the coming years. At the moment we cant compete with Malmö FF or even Häcken (who own the Gothia Cup and are worth millions). Norrköping, IFK Göteborg and AIK have better squads. But we made $2.5 million profit last year, without really selling players. We almost went bankrupt a few years ago so they arent taking any chances again.

A massive draw card for us now is that we can attract players who want to play in front of a mostly sold out stadium every week.

From Solihull to sold-out stadiums and success in Sweden’s Winter City
Graham Potter is the English manager who did the impossible – took Ostersund from the fourth tier to the top flight of Swedish football in just five years

The nice young English couple were evidently not tourists so what on earth had brought them to Sweden’s Vinterstaden – the Winter City? Were they properly equipped for life in the frozen north? Could they comprehend the challenge confronting them?

Solicitous locals had plenty of questions and were not exactly reassured by the answers. “When we arrived people were really friendly,” recalls Graham Potter. “I’d be out with my wife and they’d ask why we were here. When I told them, they’d immediately look concerned or puzzled and tell us it was ‘useless’, ‘impossible’, or: ‘You’re crazy.’”

Sport picture of the day: Barcelona pays homage to Cruyff
The overwhelming consensus was that he had signed up for a hopeless cause but – five years and three promotions on – Potter has led Ostersund all the way from the fourth tier of Swedish football to a debut season in the top flight, the Allsvenskan. “Fortunately I was sufficiently naive and optimistic not to believe what I was hearing,” says the former journeyman full-back. “I always felt something special could happen.”

On Monday evening such faith will be fully vindicated as the team from a small, hitherto nordic-sports fixated town – population 45,000, a six-hour drive north of Stockholm – visit Hammarby in their opening fixture of Sweden’s new domestic season.

“At first we had crowds of about 500,” says Potter, whose team were attracting 6,500 sellouts by the end of last season and have now moved into a new 10,000-capacity stadium. “There was no football culture here before, it’s the Winter City and has always produced skiers but now young boys and girls are joining football schools and you see kids running around in our tops. I’ve got a six-year-old son and it’s great to see his friends wearing them.”

Gary Neville left Valencia in ignominy – but at least he bit the bullet| Barry Glendenning
Potter also has nine-month-old twin boys who one day will doubtless hear all about the significance of Monday’s kick-off. A historic moment for Ostersund, it will also be a particularly proud one for the 40-year-old from Solihull, whose playing career took in principally Birmingham, Stoke, West Brom, York and Macclesfield, with eight games in the Premier League for Southampton.

Increasingly bored by much of the formulaic coaching and “cultural norms” which defined his life as a professional, Potter completed an Open University degree in social sciences while still playing. It led to football development posts, first at Hull University – from where he secured a secondment as technical director of the Ghana women’s team at the 2007 World Cup in China – and then Leeds Metropolitan University. In Leeds he completed an MA in leadership and emotional intelligence – a qualification that has served him well in a most unusual managerial posting.

“Without those experiences in higher education I wouldn’t have been able to do this job,” says Potter. “It taught me a more holistic approach and prepared me for the experience of working abroad, where your cultural beliefs are challenged and, sometimes, turned on their head.”

Then there’s the weather. Pre-season training in Ostersund starts in January and Potter swiftly learnt that while the influence of the Gulf Stream may mitigate the harshness of such a high latitude climate, the arctic Kallvastan winds whipping off the giant lake, Storsjon, remain exceptionally cutting. “When it gets down to minus 25C it’s: ‘Wow.’ You do notice it,” he says. “But a lot of the time it’s a different, nicer, drier cold than in England.”

Even so, the conditions represent a considerable challenge for Potter’s eclectic squad that has variously featured players from Ghana, Nigeria, Comoros, South Korea, Mexico, the United States, Bosnia, Spain and England. “I had two boys arriving from Ghana,” he says. “When they boarded the plane in Accra it was thirtysomething degrees C, when they arrived here it was minus 30C.”

The latest intake includes Jamal Blackman, a talented young goalkeeper who arrives on loan from Chelsea, and joins his compatriot Jamie Hopcutt, a former York trainee whose creativity and goals have helped propel Ostersund up the divisions.

There had been a plan that the club would house several young north African footballers, with the Libyan government at one point pledging to inject £47m into an outpost they intended to turn into a satellite academy. Potter was not exactly surprised when, following Libya’s descent into anarchy, the cash from Tripoli never materialised. “What you’ve never had, you never miss,” he says.

Without it, he has created a fascinating cultural scene which not only ensured Ostersund became very much part of the local community but helped players avoid succumbing to boredom and isolation.

So far Potter’s squad have collaborated in writing a book, staging an art exhibition, acting in plays and dancing – in, possibly, his most ambitious project to date, they staged a version of Swan Lake.

“I’m not sure how some of our ideas would go down in England,” he says. “But we try to develop individuals as open-minded humans rather than just footballers. Educating players and being part of the community are very important. I want to take people out of their comfort zones and teach them to rely on their team-mates.”

With Sweden’s immigration policy and the refugee crisis hot topics in Ostersund – where a recent spate of attacks on the town’s women has been blamed by some on foreigners – the club helps build bridges by involving refugees in community activities.

Out on the pitch, Potter’s determination to think laterally means his team switch seamlessly between 3-5-2 – a rare formation in a country where 4-4-2 still reigns – and playing with a back four. So far it has proved a winning formula but this rare successful English manager abroad acknowledges the season ahead represents a huge advance.

“Our flexibility and adaptability with the back three has probably been the key to our success,” he says. “We’ve got to keep translating positive, attacking football into results. It’s going to be difficult but this is an historic period for the club – it’s nice to be part of it.”

Match day.

We should hopefully win 3-0 today. There will be almost as many people in the stadium as there is in their town.

Should be about 12000 to 15000 people on the march.

Hammarby is "Ham-mahr-bee"

But we made $2.5 million profit last year, without really selling players. We almost went bankrupt a few years ago so they arent taking any chances again.

A massive draw card for us now is that we can attract players who want to play in front of a mostly sold out stadium every week.

It'll take time, and a lot of hard work getting up there amongst the top 3 or so clubs in Sweden but I think they easily have the potential to do so, well I hope so anyways.
Good luck in round 1 :d

Like a cat "purr" , "surr-dur"

Hammarby is "Ham-mahr-bee"

Bajen is "Bi-yan"

Hammarby looked absolutely shithouse on the pitch but off it their support is AMAZING! Such a fantastoc atmosphere in that compact arena. An awesome experience.

Like I've said, you can't rely on us to win.

I don't like comparisons like eg the Manchester United of Australia or so on.

But the best i have read in a book is that we are like Scotland. We go for the party and don't expect much from the team because we have been let down so many times.

I guess it is like supporting the Chicago Cubs. The other fans in the city say we have a "loser mentality"

Did you notice the that the ref gave 2 yellows for talking back? They have brought on new tough rules this season. I thought it was funny when their player got fouled then got a yellow.

Traditionally there isn't much pyro or smoke for the first game, as it is all the way during the march. Tifo was a bit weak.... May have been due to playing the derbies recently.

We were dogshit and had no midfield but it would have gone off it we scored late. We were quite close but it could be argued they had some decent chances.

Yeh I have seen you post better clips from past games, but having said that it still is a great atmosphere. Love the stadium too, I wish WSW get something similar but I won't hold my breath. NSW government will most likely fuck it up as always is the case.

I don't get it really (why it wouldn't be considered). The stadium has won awards and been voted the best in the world. Beating wembley and Madison square garden among others.

You wouldn't need a roof though. They are having the Eurovision Song Contest there this year. It is a multipurpose arena hence the AstroTurf and roof.

But as far as design goes, we had a record 31700 or so yesterday. Except for having one big wall/tier at the home end the stadium is perfect. With no bad seats.

For me the reason is you have clueless clowns making the decisions that matter. I few months back I read somewhere that the new design for Allianz Stadium was going to be based off the stadium that Jared Hayne plays in. Now if you have a look at that ground you'll be left shaking your head as to why on earth it would be even fucking considered.
As for our stadium I read the they were looking at Beijing's Bird Nest Stadium on a smaller scale. I take a look at it and it has a fucking running track around it ](*,)
That's why I'm really worried and will only be happy once I've seen the final plans and they look good.

I agree. The whole saga with our stadium has been a joke from day one when they showed us plans of the renovation that looked like a kid in year 5 drew the plans up, and now with a whole new stadium planned to get built and no stadium design being shown to the fans as of yet. Not to mention the fact the Parramatta Eels move about 4 or 5 games to ANZ Stadium, yet we need to wait till their season ends before they knock down Parramatta Stadium.

You can pretty much take this as if kennedys body holds he'll play for AFF.

Research CITY (Stockholm Prevents Alcohol and Drug Problems), on behalf of Hammarby, AIK and Djurgården conducted a study to find out how alcohol habits looks in the stands.

Visitors to Tele2 Arena Friends Arena has been blowing into a breathalyzer. The result: half were intoxicated. And ten percent had more than one per thousand of the blood.

- Then you are really drunk. Football clubs were actually surprised that it was this widespread, says Johanna Gripenberg, section chief at the city.

Filling even the family stands

According to her, the result is that today presented very reliable. A total of 3,000 people participated in the test, which lasted for eight games during last season. And it's not just people in heels that were tested.

- We had six blow stations scattered throughout the arena. So the results include family bleachers, away supporters and long sides, says Johanna Gripenberg.

The project "Football without filling" should now work to bring down the consumption of alcohol in connection with the games. The first step will be to bring down the powerful intoxication, something CITY organization already has experience through his many years of work in Stockholm's restaurant industry. For example, the taverns next to the stadiums trained in what they can do.

- The results are clear. There is a large group of visitors that are full of football matches. That the drinking of alcohol in connection with football matches is not news. But the clubs were surprised how much actual drinking, says Johanna Gripenberg.

7 wins and 1 draw from the last 8 games with Djurgården. Even though we went many years without playing them havent lost to them since 2007.

I must say before this run we almost never beat them.

I am at home in Stockholm at my desk procrastinating instead of studying.

We are f*in west ham, its "Bajen"

They have astroturf too so we should go ok.

We arent even the most hated in our city.

P.s.

This song is about Örebro, where they are fro. I think the Swedish version sounds better anyway.

Sævarsson had a pretty good game against England.

Club gets a good payout from having 2 players on the Icelandic team.

I am not sure I agree with this entirely. Hammarby are not a winning team and its not the reason people support the club.

The club is currently in the process of building up capital and not buying decent players. Although the fans deserve better than the shit that is being dished out. Last season was a record crowd and iirc it was someting like 3 9 3 at home.

A spectator struck down brutally Aly Keita at the end of the match between South Jonkoping and Ostersund.Ostersund goalkeeper was shocked and became giddy with the battle in the head and the game was interrupted.- It's bullshit, this. I thank the gods for the fool had no knife, says Östersund Chairman Daniel Kindberg Sportbladet. TV: See hooligan attack here! The match between the J-Southern and Östersund was walking towards a 1-1 draw results. As the unfolding scenes of great scandal at Stadsparksvallen in Jönköping when a masked man suddenly entered the field and started chasing Ostersund goalkeeper Aly Keita.Keita tried to run away but the man was brutally to the ground before security guards could intervene.- I am completely distressed. People are shocked here. I just saw someone running and attacking goalkeeper, I did not even know what section he came from, says says J-Södra's Chairman Sune Lantz.

Took the head

The masked man was taken off the pitch while Keita long remained in the grass, and took the head.Sune, have you had problems with supporters before?- No, this is unique. Through the years there have been only a few inebriated spectators gaped a little too much. But they have security guards have been able to seize. Finally goalkeeper could own steam off the field to the crowd's warm applause. Keita is appropriate okay, but was shocked by the incident.Östersund Chairman Daniel Kindberg still feel some relief.- It's bullshit, this. I thank the gods for the fool had no knife. I'm actually relieved, I thought right away if he had a knife, he said to Sportbladet.- I'm glad that Keita is conscious and now it is important that our guys will come home. READ ALSOHooligan: A 17-year-old from Södertälje

ending the game

After the incident, called the referee Jonas Eriksson to a meeting where the decision was made to cancel the game. The internationally experienced referee was upset and says he has never experienced anything like it.- I have no words. It was unpleasant and shocking, says Eriksson in C More.- I've never seen anyone run onto the pitch and assaulted someone in this way. Östersund keeper was physically injured and could not continue the game, at the same time felt Östersund players a distaste and unwillingness to continue. The decision to cancel the match was therefore easy.Match delegate Nicklas Bengtsson will, like Eriksson, to write a report that the union must, on Tuesday, says Bengtsson for Sport Bladet.Data suggest that the perpetrator had the baton. Do you know anything about that?- The information I have not received. I know that the man ran into the family stands, is looked after and taken to the police station.

Here is a recent story about Charlie Davies. His story is both tragic and wonderful. He is the fastest player I have seen on a pitch. I think he was going to go to the top. A rough diamond when he played for us but a warrior. Article translated via google. Vidoes below on him and his goals for Hammarby

Eric Persson: You can always fight a bit more

Eric Persson: We all have our different destinies, soccer player Charlie Davies has been extraordinary.

Have you ever felt that life is tough? Have you even scratched the bottom of the darkness, anguish and despair? Have you traveled you?
We all have our different destinies, soccer player Charlie Davies has been extraordinary.
The teens were Charlie Davies, a blank that grew into a major talent. As his success at Boston College, he was ranked as one of the greatest talents in the United States in December 2006, the then 20-year-old Charlie Davies, a dream fulfilled: a professional contract in Europe. During his first time in the Hammarby IF he was criticized, but then he put a big mark in the league, became a crowd favorite and summer of 2008 was Davies with the US Olympic team in Beijing.
The development curve is pointing straight up, and after 21 goals in 56 matches in Hammarby's sweater he was sold in July 2009 to the French Sochaux. In his second league match he scored two goals against the Champions League team Bordeaux and it was laid out for the season was rounded off with the World Cup games in South Africa.
May 2009: Charlie Davies has just scored a goal for his Hammarby in Allsvenskan.Photo: Marcus Ericsson
But the night of Tuesday, October 13, 2009 turned everything. Charlie Davies was in a serious car accident, 22-year-old woman who was sitting in the same car died.
One and a half days later played the United States against Costa Rica and qualified for the World Cup. Charlie Davies would have played, instead he lay in a hospital and had surgery from head to toe. He had broken most of the time going to break, was totally bruised and according to some data, he fought for his life. The car that Davies had been traveling had been cut in half. When he left the hospital, he could not even walk. That he would come back to football seemed unthinkable.

"He looked like death, he did not seem to live. He was unrecognizable, you could barely see his face. It was a nightmare, "said his friend Mitchell Borin in a documentary about Charlie Davies way back.
Just over four months after the car accident trained Charlie Davies with Sochaux. His body looked different, almost swollen, but he was there. In the media, he said he aimed to bring to the World Cup.
Charlie Davies was not selected for the World Cup, but he had fought for his life and fought on for his football. On March 20, 523 days after the car accident, he was back on the football field when DC United met Columbus Crew in MLS (top league in the United States and Canada). He scored two goals and the fans shouted his name. Fighter had crushed all odds, Charlie Davies had shown what the hell of means.

But then, in March 2016 the same time as a new season with the New York Revolution would begin, was born, Charlie Davies and his wife Nina's twin boys three months early, and the new parents did not know if they would ever take their children home.
On 28 April, the twin boys in hospital when Charlie Davies played the game. When it struck in the groin, he was forced to leave the pitch and the next day he was examined.
Charlie Davies thought a light injury - the doctor found a tumor. Davies had suffered from a rare form of cancer and also in an unusual place. His one testicle surgically removed and a new life struggle began.
Today Charlie Davies plays soccer for Philadelphia Union in MLS. He came back to his life and his football career after the car accident, his twin boys have coped - and he has overcome cancer.
You can always be inspired by Davies. You can always fight some more.

Letterman and Michael Stipe copy style of Bajen icon

REM singer and Letterman draws its inspiration from Hammarby style icon.

The cover picture of a seemingly leave affirming David Letterman took the Internet by storm the other day. Gone are välgroomade Letterman's The Late Show -utseende, in favor of an overgrown beard, sunglasses and a vacant Bajen-striped hat.

The new, casual, the look quickly gained a ripple. The former REM singer Michael Stipe was hyper quick to show their Lettermanska style.

Though this with "Lettermansk style" needs enough corrected. David Letterman was not only the look that he had attributed to her. Those interested in football, especially in the southern parts of Stockholm, see Talk Show profile twisted style straight off from another large profile. Bajen icon Johan "santa" Johansson. Just look at the striking resemblance below.

Hammarby Hammarby-plot was perhaps most prominent supporter, and his warm personality and his iconic appearance he was a favorite with everyone - even the opposing team's supporters.

Before the decisive match of Championship gold medal in the men's football Allsvenskan 2001 followed a television crew "plot" from the time he woke up, that gold was in port. See the nice story in the comments!

Johan Johansson died in 2008, but his legacy is now a global concern.
