This thread will fly. Today we saw Australian Open super star Rafa pictured with a couple of drug fucked douchebags of Essendon. This happens often. Often enough that it now has a thread on 442 because it shits me. Enjoy and share your pictures of confused people holding a VFL ball.

Surely when footballers come here in the future, a twitter campaign could be started to prevent them from getting a Sherrin into their hands.

I'm not denying that this shit is cringe worthy but to be fair this is not in the same category as the other token shit in this thread. Ricky Ponting is a well publicized North supporter and has even expressed an interest in joining their board, whilst Warne actually played for St Kilda's reserve side in his younger days and regularly attends their games (which would be quite painful), he's probably a bigger AFL fan than he is a cricket fan tbh. Also, we're no angels... MV and Heart/City usually nab a Tennis star or two this time of the year for a token pic.

Apart from Warren Tredrea and Jay Schulz couldn't tell you who the others are :) I always find these promotions odd. Really they do more for the "guests" as they get to promote their event to a captive local audience (i.e. the membership base). The international fans of the tennis player etc couldn't give a stuff about which ever sport it is.

Fucking hell, anything to be relevant
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

All of this. Football clubs always use celebrities or people from other sports to promote themselves. Every time the Kangaroos tour England a football club always get a few of the players to the club for a promo opportunity.

The point of this thead isnt to be like herp derp gayFl lollllll!!!!!111111!!!1!1 in fact I enjoy footy especially back in the day. The point is that these marketing ploys, which undeniably is more of an AFL marketing classic than any other, are ultimately extremely painful and cringeworthy. In fact it would be better if the AFL stick to free tickets.

If you're ignoring plenty of equally cheesy examples of football doing the same thing to comment about what an embarrassment this is from the AFL then I'd argue otherwise tbh. Granted not everyone is guilty of this as TSF says, but some people are definitely just too keen to sink the boot in.

Yep, I'm sure he's disappointed that he hasn't made the grade. Herald sun with some quality trolling  Definitely would've got a few bites on that  Wouldn't expect anything else from the Herald Scum.

If he'd won I still couldnt imagine Campbell Newman showing a Liverpool player how to kick for touch on the sacred Lang Park turf. However I wont be surprised if the kick a footy in Adelaide. I think its funny more than anything. Edited by scott21: 17/7/2015 04:36:18 PM

Contrary to what you may believe, there a plenty of soccer fans out there that enjoy AFL, linking the two is a great puff piece for those that do. If it can encourage more AFL fans to take on soccer, what's the harm?
Edited by 11.mvfc.11: 17/7/2015 04:42:15 PM The issue is not that football fans enjoy AFL, lots of Rugby League fans also enjoy football & the other way round as well, but you don't see the rivalry between RL & football as you see with the AFL against football.

You have got to love how GAYFL manage to hijack a football event to promote their sport. Where is the FFA squeezing their juice out of the visit. Did we bring Real Madrid to Melbourne for this shemozzle. Its a joke I tell ya...............A JOKE.

I like it that they get the athletes to perform like circus monkeys. I wonder if they get the guys going to China to try some ping pong.

Step 1: Spend millions of taxpayer dollars to secure the rights to an international "soccer" tournament
Step 2 : invite the teams to play on an oval shaped stadium
Step 3: Get the premier to hand the big star of the team a Sherrin
step 4: "Hey lad - you're playing the wrong sport. Here, kick this instead!"
Step 5: the Herald Sun reports how the big star has "discovered his love for AFL, the best sport in the world"
Step 6: Remain completely oblivious to how stupid you look to everyone else.
Victoria - the sporting capital of the world.

This AF thread should make us feel better: http://au.fourfourtwo.com/forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=111853& as much as this is all cringeworthy, you can't fault the AFL's self-promotional opportunism...A-League clubs could do infinitely worse than take a leaf from that book.

It used to be just a named tradition, but then it was the squad for the International Series. Now.. sort of sits somewhere in between. Those named, if they want to play, will probably play. Otherwise, most of them demand their holiday.

Otherwise, most of them demand their holiday. The All-Australian team can be fairly different to the International Series team ... mainly due to the different nature of the game (the Irish tend to be smaller body and fleet of foot). So more small forwards get picked than big power forwards / ruckmen (that are included in the All-Australian side). The All-Australian side is similar in vein to the the A-League team of the season. Not sure if similar to the NBA all-star sides where players get bonuses if selected (remember Bogut got a $1 million bonus for being named in the NBA Defensive Team of the year).

Blue coup During their Melbourne visit, Carlton Football Club pulled off one of the great PR coups thanks to club GM Keith McKenzie. "When we knew they were about to land at Tullamarine I told our marketing bloke Michael Whitewood, 'Grab a couple of guernseys, get up to the airport and take them out to ABBA'", McKenzie says. ABBA singers Agnetha and Frida even wore the jumpers years later in a film clip. ABBA's Agnetha and Frida wearing Carlton's jumpers. Oh but because he hasn't dragged MU out of the shitter he is all of a sudden overrated. Or because he is a superstar in 2019 and likes to post on Insta. In the bin with terrible opinions.

No I'm sorry. If you can't be arsed to put in the effort you're not one of the world too players. Its that simple.

In the bin with terrible opinions. he was actually one of their best and I think top goal scorer but its his attitude ( french and all lol)....... He could be a top bloke at the pub but the image he portrays no matter where certainly isn't great. He's with one of the richest clubs, got paid a fortune and because the squad is lacking he behaves like neymar, a spoilt brat and because united suck at present he wants to jump. Quoted wants a new challenge, yer nah only because he knows they won't be good enough again coming season.

Hell he was in the WC squad. Laporte has won the domestic treble this season and the double last hasn't broken into the squad yet. That should tell you of his quality to be in such a side. I would love if he moved to City and destroyed them there. Under Klopp he may have won the title.

It's essentially the behaviour of sociopathic bullies who need to remind people that they are "the big dog" around here. VFL is nonsensical unwatchable irrelevance which has essentially become huge due to it's spouting of nationalistic drivel.

Can someone post the official AFL post of the NBA players holding a sherrin. Also shout out to BT and his grovelling to the warrior AFL code.

They must have a conversation down at AFL HQ that goes something along the lines of 'insert name here' is coming. Get a sherrin out of the cupboard and get down to the press conference they're having this morning.

Textbook narcissistic bullying. Make every moment about themselves & bore people to death with self serving drivel whenever anybody disagrees with their narrow droning worldview. There is really is something mentally wrong with the AFL mentality down there.
