+xCan we still get 04 chipperfield? Liam was born in Basel and lived all his life in Switzerland, and has been with FC Basel since he was very young as far as I can see. He's still eligible for Australia of course by birthright despite a few Swiss U15 and U16 caps, but it'd be hard to blame him if he did feel more at home in the Swiss team. Still only 16 but has played all four games for Basel's U18s so far this season, so I'll still be watching him at least until he's definitely locked in for Switzerland.

Young Socceroos vs Mariners next week. Sunday at Central Coast Stadium. The first friendly for the squad as they prepare for a packed 2021 schedule.
AFC U19 Championship Uzbekistan starts on 3 March.
Then, if we qualify in that tournament, the FIFA U20 World Cup Indonesia is straight after, starting 20 May.
It would be cool to qualify for this one especially as an AFC nation is hosting.

Usually the squads are announced on Tuesdays. Keen to see who GVE calls up.

That squad looks pretty spot on to me!
I’d add in Dylan Ruiz-Diaz but no idea where he even is right now. Some say he’s trialling overseas, but I’ve heard whispers he’s back home.

I’m fairly sure he is currently trialling with/trialled with Shakhtar Donetsk or maybe Dynamo Kyiv. Definitely a team based in Kyiv. He is the first attacker picked for this side if available though imo.

Update - Dylan is definitely still in Ukraine.

Bad news with regards our youth national teams for 2021 with both the Fifa u17 and u20 world cups cancelled this year with both events moved to 2023. So the u17 and u20 will have a big gap they could miss out when there is no international level football for next year, hopefully the FA(Football Australia) could organise something for them as this could harm their development, the Performance Gap highlighted about the lack of international exposure too. https://www.fifa.com/news/update-on-fifa-women-s-world-cuptm-and-men-s-youth-competitions

What’s everyone’s Olyroos team at this point? 18 man squad remember - ignore overage players. GK: Delianov, Glover DF: Gersbach, Souttar, Deng, Strain, Atkinson, Mourdoukoutas MF: O’Neill, Devlin, Baccus, McGree, Genreau, Kalik FW: D’Agostino, Piscopo, Arzani, Buhagiar
Shadow Players: Margush, Ryan, Cleur, King, Duncan, Metcalfe, Touré, Juric, Iredale

That’s a good squad, especially if Souttar, McGree and Arzani all play.

You could build a decent u20 team as well given the amount of young players that have played so far.
u20 eligible players that have gotten minutes: Hollman, Runs, Wood, Nieuwenhof, Dukuly, D'Arrigo, Noah Smith, Mohamed Toure, Aquillina, Mouragis, Barnett, Tilio, Gomulka
Including the large u23 list players already, very healthy for Aus football!

Shakhtar are more Brazilian than the Amazon.

Hopefully. Maybe not necessarily more talented but getting regular football to expedite their improvement and progression at a younger age to maximise their potential. It is clear that when talented players get 2-3 seasons of regular starts they will reach a level where they are amongst the best A-League performers and are capable of attracting overseas attention. Keanu Baccus has now had 2.5 seasons of regular football at the age of 22, and is imo at least the Wanderers’ best midfielder. Louis D’Arrigo at age 19 has had 1, and is already clearly a better player than last season. Ryan Strain is now one of the league’s best right backs having had 3 seasons of regular football.
If the 01/02/03/04 generation can start to get regular football at 17/18/19 instead of 20/21/22 then their performance outcomes and progression will be markedly better. We are already seeing that in Dukuly, D’Arrigo, King, Nieuwenhof, Kuol, Rawlins, Touré etc. Only a very special player can come into the league at that age and dominate, but talented players invested in with time and patience at that age will only blossom and improve.

I think the best thing to come out so far is how many of these guys are playing, and playing on a regular basis too something that's been missing even with the current u23 side that not everyone is getting minutes unlike our competition in Asia. So the fact that some of these younger guys you mentioned which are next in line are already getting game time is quite encouraging for the future of the national teams going forward. Its a shame a worldwide pandemic has forced these clubs to play young talent, imagine what more teams could do as well and even more could be developed which sounds quite exciting. 16 aleague teams plus an NSD anyone?

If we have a fulltime professional league as a 2nd division we can finally have kids getting 10000 professional minutes by the time they are 20/21 and stop leaving underdone. The a league will go to a new level too since there will be a whole level below it to scout for players
