+x+x+x+x+x+x+x01/02/03 olympics 2024 - team will be stacked Thoughts on our strongest starting XI from this crop? Midfield looks strong and forwards decent with Kuol but unsure about defence and GK. Pavlesic/James; Aquilina, Courtney-Perkins, Trewin, Nishikawa; Nieuwenhof, Popovic, D’Arrigo; Tilio, Ruiz-Diaz, Brook RES: Rawlins, Gomulka, Kirdar, Duzel, Teague, Robertson, Hammond, Botic, Dukuly, Barnett, Powell, Toure, Kuol, Hollman, Ruhs, Cancar, Prso, Auglah, Mauragis, Watts Hard to judge but the next u23 team could be more stacked with talent. Hopefully. Maybe not necessarily more talented but getting regular football to expedite their improvement and progression at a younger age to maximise their potential. It is clear that when talented players get 2-3 seasons of regular starts they will reach a level where they are amongst the best A-League performers and are capable of attracting overseas attention. Keanu Baccus has now had 2.5 seasons of regular football at the age of 22, and is imo at least the Wanderers’ best midfielder. Louis D’Arrigo at age 19 has had 1, and is already clearly a better player than last season. Ryan Strain is now one of the league’s best right backs having had 3 seasons of regular football.
If the 01/02/03/04 generation can start to get regular football at 17/18/19 instead of 20/21/22 then their performance outcomes and progression will be markedly better. We are already seeing that in Dukuly, D’Arrigo, King, Nieuwenhof, Kuol, Rawlins, Touré etc. Only a very special player can come into the league at that age and dominate, but talented players invested in with time and patience at that age will only blossom and improve. I think the best thing to come out so far is how many of these guys are playing, and playing on a regular basis too something that's been missing even with the current u23 side that not everyone is getting minutes unlike our competition in Asia. So the fact that some of these younger guys you mentioned which are next in line are already getting game time is quite encouraging for the future of the national teams going forward. Its a shame a worldwide pandemic has forced these clubs to play young talent, imagine what more teams could do as well and even more could be developed which sounds quite exciting. 16 aleague teams plus an NSD anyone? If we have a fulltime professional league as a 2nd division we can finally have kids getting 10000 professional minutes by the time they are 20/21 and stop leaving underdone. The a league will go to a new level too since there will be a whole level below it to scout for players Agree I can see the great benefits of an expanded game, who knows how much more talent could have been developed without it. P.s Good to see you back on this forum mate

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foz8sh33ThwFull game vs Soviet Union 1988. Australian Open a mini test run for Olympic arrangement. It comes across as quite grim even with Japanese planning under consideration.

Is Danny DA Silva still young enough? He had a fantastic game earlier in the match against WSW a few nights ago.

Nisbet has been impressive; turns well and quickly, tidy in possession, strong tackler and keeps the ball well immediately after entering ball possession. Welcome back Decentric

Another player who impressed me from Perth Glory last night was Daniel Stynes. I looked him up and he is 21 YO. He had some slick ball skills and good first touches, plus he passed and moved well in tight spaces.
Also, Carlo Armienta who scored the last goal from a tight angle for Glory against Adelaide, is only 21.
I read there are a few imports ready to come back into the Glory line up, but it may not be good for the development of these young Aussie players if they do.

Assuming arnie plays his normal formation it would’ve a 4-2-3-1.
With people like armenakas emerging and others like arzani going backwards. He’d be a brave man to pick a squad today.
My f XI would be
Toure piscopo Mcgree Arzani O’Neill Baccus gersbach Deng Souttar Russell Glover

Anthony Kalik would have to be in with a real shout too for that central midfield spot. Glover’s spot is under threat from Delianov and Margush.

4 players that will definitely go are Atkinson, Wales , Wilson and McGree . add to that Daggers with his long throws , overage Rhyan Grant and a overage keeper Vucavic leaves 11 spots

Wales and Wilson I don’t think will make it. Just because they were banned doesn’t mean they’ll be selected.

The players who you’d assume are shoe-ins barring injury or disaster are Souttar, Deng, McGree and D’Agostino imo. Maybe Piscopo too and Arzani if he can get minutes. Every other place is up for grabs.

Jake Brimmer is still only 22 as well, turning 23 in April. He has played a lot of football with MV in the ACL and AL in recent times.

Souttar is great when the ball is in the air, but in terms of jockeying against nimble footed opponents he struggles.

Metcalfe/Genreau Armenakas McGree/Najjarine Armiento Daggers/Mo Toure Devlin is in better form than both Stensness and Baccus. Also King > O’Toole - COT is a limited footballer in my opinion. King is a good talent, agree on him. Its great to have options though, it will be a tough pick for Arnie when or if the Olympics come up.
