I've heard that the 49ers staff love him to bits - but all the American players hate it that he's taking the piss out of them all day every day.

Averaging close to 10yds per carry. There are elite running backs that don't clock those numbers. He could walk into somewhere like Jacksonville or Oakland and just about be thier number 1 back

My favourite part of this whole experience is reading heaps of people get annoyed at Americans calling him a "rugby player"

He wouldn't get close to starting ahead of TJ Yeldon or Denard Robinson or even Bernard Pierce for that matter. Hayne still has a long long long way to go as a running back. Most elite running backs would destroy the 3rd and 4th dtring defenses Hayne has been going up against when in as an RB. That's not to say what he's doing isn't amazing, it is, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Was reading a fair bit of this forum page last night. http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/179916-the-hayne-plane/page300/There's over 300 pages but I sought out the ones where he'd just played a game. It's interesting stuff and heaps of aussies all over the pages and some very polite and patient Americans explaining the nuances of the game and what he's doing right and wrong. It's a great read actually. One bloke made a great point about how Hayne would do.. He was saying 1st blokes were saying it's only practise. Then when that went well it was wait until they play contact When that went well, it was wait until he gets a helmet and pads on...... Then it was wait until he plays a game... You get the idea.

It's not the Hayne Plane. It's the Hayne Train, and there's no brakes on it.

Probably a bit of a slow news week. Probably not, but I mean in terms of sport, international break in the football and the last round in NRL and AFL with not a whole lot going on in either comp so makes sense to have him be top billing. Edited by sydneycroatia58: 6/9/2015 10:02:02 AM

Became pretty clear he wasn't going to make it anywhere as a QB after being waived by both the Chiefs and Bengals this offseason alone. Says a lot about how desperate the Browns are for anything at WR that he's made the final roster.

Thanks, awesome vid hadn't seen that one. I watched this guy since he was about 19 with the Eels , so to see him make this move is terrific. He looks just as smooth in pads as he did in League. I love the wraps he got for the over the shoulder catch, which sounds like it must be a rare thing. I've seen him do that probably 40 times. In terms of media coverage, there was a small article on Grantland, which is a reasonably large national (global) website.

If the NFL was smart they would move heaven and earth to get every 49ers game on free to air here. It would be the best exposure they could ever hope for.

This is an interesting article. http://www.news.com.au/sport/american-sports/hey-aussies-dont-follow-jarryd-hayne-to-the-nfl/story-fnq2nnu6-1227520504721I find this passage particularly perceptive. “This runs headfirst into a larger phenomenon most Australians would rather pretend doesn’t exist: seeking acceptance from the USA. There’s a dichotomy of disdain for perceived cultural imperialism butting up against this notion that gaining success it in the United States means you’ve “made it”.
“This applies to chefs, actors, musicians and of course athletes. Hayne is that dream made manifest, and it’s one other players will seek too.”

Mark Bosnich on the back page made an interesting point that he thought Mat Ryan's ascendancy to Valencia was more significant given he is actually playing real matches, in the world game. But, nup, we seem to care more about a guy playing practice matches in a sport that means bugger all in this country and outside the US. BTW, I hope Hayne does really well, but there are a few people who I've actually heard comparing this to Cathy Freeman's gold medal and friggin' Don Bradman. I mean, C'mon.

Throw in the fact Hayne has never played the game, and absolutely killed it thus far, makes this the sports story of the decade.
I'm backing him to prove everyone wrong and cement himself as a long time NFL star. What are the odds of making it to la Liga? Lets get excited if he does well in the real games. There are plenty of American 49ers fans who follow the sport closely who aren't excited. Also, he's doing exactly what he did in league. The catching, stepping, palming guys off, the difference is as I've seen is these NFL players can't tackle for shit. They just jump in head first. I thought Israel folaus transition to AFL was more remarkable even though he didn't set the world on fire because he had to change his whole physique and learn a very different skill set.

Not undermining his achievement, what Ryan is doing at Valencia is great, but he didn't 'pip' anything, he Bradbury'd it. He got lucky with Alves being injured and credit to him he's making the most of that luck and the chance that came from it.

BTW, I hope Hayne does really well, but there are a few people who I've actually heard comparing this to Cathy Freeman's gold medal and friggin' Don Bradman. I mean, C'mon. I couldn't agree more. It's like I don't see how this achievement ranks higher than Matt Ryan making it to Valencia and pipping the spot of a Brazilian international. Or Kruse ripping it up in the Bundislega. I just think the media makes more of this than really need be. Mat Ryan wouldn't even be at Valencia had that Brazilian international not done his knee in the final game of last season. And? How exactly does that undermine his achievement? In a world of if buts and maybes. Not undermining his achievement, what Ryan is doing at Valencia is great, but he didn't 'pip' anything, he Bradbury'd it. He got lucky with Alves being injured and credit to him he's making the most of that luck and the chance that came from it. Think people need to stop semi-bagging poor ol Bradbury too imo. -PB

The difference here is that Ryan is doing what his doing in his chosen sport. Hayne switching from league to NFL is a much bigger story. Considering the first pre-season game was the first time Hayne had EVER played a game of American Football it's freaking amazing.

I actually haven't seen them play for a long while now. But I always remember those good years and DE Bruce Smith. Every time my own team got new jerseys to play in, I always made sure I got Bruce's number 78 whether I was defense or not at the time.

Let me tell you something, I've been watching this game for 30 years, and no rookie has ever impressed me as much as Hayne has. I've seen all the greatest. I've seen 30 superbowls. I've seen it all man. Hayne has that something special that I've only seen in very few players. Players that are sitting in the Hall of Fame right now. Players that kids and men aspire to be. Hayne is special let me tell ya.
For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

The Buc's fans boo Winston off at HT after having a horrid first half although the host on redzone said this morning that the last player to throw a pick 6 on their very first throw was a bloke call Brett Favre

The more Forte gets the ball the better we'll be. Cutler also looked completely different to last season, 50% completion, but was less down to him and more down to some droped catches. Defense looked better than I was expecting, especially Kyle Fuller who had a horrible pre-season.

Quote:Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne is making his NFL debut for the San Francisco 49ers after being named in the team's 46-man squad for the team's season opener.
Earlier this month Hayne was named in the 49ers final 53-man roster, prompting rampant speculation on whether he would be named for week one.
On Tuesday morning, the 49ers revealed their list of seven players who would miss out on the game.
These included reserve kick returner DeAndrew White and fourth-string running back Mike Davis.
This left Hayne in the 46 who would "suit up" for the Monday Night Football game - which is being nationally televised in the US - against the Minnesota Vikings at the 49ers home ground of Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
The 49ers took the opening kickoff from the Vikings, but Hayne remained on the bench, as wide receiver / returner Bruce Ellington caught the ball in the end zone for no return.
The bulk of carries at running back will go to 49ers starters Carlos Hyde and Reggie Bush.
Bush is also available to return kicks, as is Ellington.

Hayne takes a punt back about 10yds but a flag means the punt is taken a again. Then the bloke who takes that punt takes it all the way only to come back for another flag.

Side stepped the shit out of one defender on the reception, looks like that's what's going to make the occasional big yardage for him

Well that was majorly disappointing. Tomsula seems to have lost faith in Hayne from one dropped PR, all the memories of pre-season washed away. This is typical of Australian players who go overseas, including soccer players, to further their careers, one mistake or bad game and it's all over.

Tomsula hasn't lost faith in Hayne, he was always likely to be more a return man today than running back and it's not his fault the 49ers were garbage and could only force 3 punts.

2 comments from an article which provide some some insight. Perspective PLEASE! It is a game of inches and he finished the game with POSITIVE yards and did what he was sent out there to do! Last week he dropped his first catch-not a great start, THIS week he called for a fair catch which was the right call, and got positive yards on his next punt. He made a first down run which is what every team wants because they're moving the ball.
Do not start the wonderful Australian tradition of cutting down the tall poppies.-----//------- Quite a poor article. Jarryd featured a fair bit in game one for a 5 game rookie. There are two other rookies that had no part in game one and coach said he was always going to play all 3 today. Just looks to me as though he's spreading the work load throughout the rookies somewhat evenly. Hayne will likely feature more in game 3. To say his future is up in the air is a little over the top. Article features no other information but an opinion - a bad one at thatEdited by munrubenmuz: 21/9/2015 09:42:46 AM

Who'd have thought Bears v Seahawks would be a battle of 0-2 teams. And by that I mean who'd have thought the Seahawks would be 0-2

My opponent this week had Todd Gurley in his lineup and somehow he got more pts than Keenan Allen

A lot of Australians now realising what Hayne has got himself into in San Francisco. He's going to need to take advantage of all the punt returns he gets because his defence isn't going to be giving him many to look at.

He probably will in the long run once Bush is back and they have a bit more depth at running back and can afford to give Hayne a bit more of a go. He's certainly shown more than DeAndrew White has. The fact that Hayne was named the 49ers MOTM for one punt return tells you all you need to know about how they went today

So Jared Allen to the Panthers and Jon Bostic to the Patriots, both for 6th round draft picks. Won't be long before Forte is gone probably. Bears will have 50 picks in next years drafts at this rate

That shit is rank. Crazy amounts of water. Haven't seen so much waste in my life (though one can wash ones testicles whilst taking a borrie 😲). As for the plumbing, I can only speak from my own experiences regarding this. I can't comment on America's east coast plumbing as I haven't been to the east coast yet. That said, if it is anything like that of America's west coast plumbing then I don't what the problem is. From my understanding the plumbing/pipes etc are smaller/narrower in the US east coast than that of their UK cousins.

Clever how nobody told the Australian public that San Francisco are actually a shit team. Just made to believe all the hype. Makes you wonder if Hayne really is that good or does it just seem like that because hes surrounded by shit cunce.

Fucking knew we'd be the one to give the Lions their first win  And as bad as that loss was, still amazing to see the miracles Vic Fangio has worked with this shitshow of a defence.
Also Seattle are fucked, that defence is hopeless.

Hayne dropped. American sport is ruthless with such a huge talent pool available. I remember a major league baseball game I saw once and the 3rd baseman fumbled the ball and the commentator said something like "terrible stuff, that's his 3rd error in 6 years". Bloody hell.

Reporter for the 49ers saying that if Hayne gets through waivers it's more likely he'll be added to the 53 man 49ers squad and not the practice squad. The 49ers GM also said that if Hayne cleared waivers they intended to re-sign him, more for the practice squad, but with the injuries they now have there's a good chance he gets signed to a full roster spot again. Jarryd Hayne may get opportunity as San Francisco 49ers struggle with injuries http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-15/opportunity-beckons-for-hayne-at-49ers/7028410?section=sportQuote: Jarryd Hayne might get another chance to play for the San Francisco 49ers this year.
The running back who replaced the Australian, Kendall Gaskins, suffered a concussion in the 49ers' humiliating loss on Monday (AEDT) to the Cleveland Browns.
The 49ers' running back stocks have almost been wiped out, with Carlos Hyde, Reggie Bush, Mike Davis and now Gaskins injured.
The 49ers are also desperate for some type of spark for their offence, which again was anaemic against the Browns.
Despite San Francisco's desire to keep the inexperienced Hayne on their practice squad, the team might not have a choice but to promote him to their 53-man squad for the remaining three games of their season.
Gaskins will have to pass the NFL's concussion protocol to be cleared to play the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.
The 49ers' top running back Shaun Draughn managed just 43 yards from 11 carries against the Browns, but Hayne's replacement as punt returner Bruce Ellington had one of his best games with a career-high 36-yard return.
The 49ers have had a tepid four win, nine loss season.
The Browns sit below the 49ers at the bottom of the NFL standings with three wins, 10 losses.
49ers' quarterback Blaine Gabbert was sacked a franchise tying record nine times.

2016 will see the return of Los Angeles having one and maybe 2 NFL teams next season after the St. Louis Rams have now relocated to LA.
The Chargers is a strong possibility to follow suit also.
The raiders will stay in Oakland.

I guess it comes down as to what "into it" means... I like the sport, and enjoy watching games (college games also), I understand every aspect of it, can explain rules and rulings and the like, but I don't follow it (if that makes sense).

Yeah I'm mich the same. I never miss red zone on Sunday nights and try to watch a few more games. I support the Jets but don't get angry if I can't wait their game in full. If it's the Socceroos I just can't miss it.
