Emperor's Cup Quarter finals just played, the Semi Finals on Tuesday will be Urawa Reds v Kashiwa Reysol and Gamba Osaka v Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Final is New Year's Day.

If league champion Hiroshima win the cup, Gamba Osaka will take the Japanese number 2 spot in Victory's Group and Urawa will take spot #3 in Sydney's, same result if Osaka win.

If Urawa or Kashiwa win the cup they go to Victory's group and Sydney get Osaka,

Adelaide will be in the group with Hiroshima if they qualify.

Gamba Osaka beating Sanfrecce Hiroshima 3-0 in the Semi Final, while Urawa beat Kashiwa 1-0 in extra time.

Urawa and Gamba Osaka will play off in the Cup final on New Year's day, with the winner facing Victory and the loser facing Sydney.

This also confirms FC Tokyo (with Nathan Burns) as Japan's 4th team due to league placing, going in the group with no Australian teams should they win their playoff against the winner of Chonburi and Yangoon United (who apparently now have Milan Susak).

Gamba Osaka just won the Emperor's Cup cup, so the Japanese slots are confirmed.

Osaka in Victory's group, and Urawa in with Sydney.

I'm happy with Urawa honestly, our first every ACL match against them (the 2-2 draw) is a great memory and either Japanese side would've been tough.

Be interesting to see what is going to happen with the ACL this year what with the current difficulties between KSA and IRN.

This. Their fans also travelled really well. I remember they when we played them they used to be called the Manchester United of Asia - partially becaue they dominated Asia at that point, and they basically played in a United kit. :lol:

Having a look at West Asia which is comprised of teams from just five countries in Uzbekistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, and it's actually looking good for a lot of the teams from the only two countries I'd fancy an away final trip to (Uzbekistan and Iran) to qualify.

Some good stuff here.

Afc cup sides should have the chance to compete in the ACL.

Definitely open to opening up qualification spots for more countries. Get in, Dordoi Bishkek.

The AFC Cup doesnt promote better football IMO.

If we're going to keep the tournament split into east and west, I see no problem with doubling the group stage to 32 teams in each side and playing an extra round of knockouts.

The smaller MA deserve a chance to compete along with bringing in more clubs from the value bringing nations like China to drive the extra revenue and interest needed to cover that.

True. I'd even look at splitting and marketing the comps entirely and just play off for the Club World Cup spot. Might as well be separate comps if it's split until the final fixture. Won't happen though. I would also be wanting to keep the Central Asian Football Association so we can keep Iran and the 'Stans.
