Having a look at West Asia which is comprised of teams from just five countries in Uzbekistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, and it's actually looking good for a lot of the teams from the only two countries I'd fancy an away final trip to (Uzbekistan and Iran) to qualify.

All the games between Iran and Saudi teams have been put back to the last two of the group and played on neutral territory because of their breakdown in relations, which leads to some interesting runs home, especially for Pakhtakor who get to play both of their last games against already eliminated Al-Jazira.

GUANGZHOU FORCED TO PLAY IN EMPTY STADIUM
By AFP 3 February 2016 17:43
Guangzhou will kick off their defence of the Champions League title in an empty stadium after being punished Wednesday by Asia's football governing body.

China's Guangzhou Evergrande will kick off their defence of the Champions League title in an empty stadium after being punished Wednesday by Asia's football governing body for breaching league rules.
The breaches included filming an Al Ahli (UAE) closed training session, conducting an unauthorised post-match ceremony and infringing on the commercial rights of Asian Football Confederation sponsors, the AFC said in a statement.
The governing body said further violations relate to safety and security failures during the second leg of the 2015 final, which the club hosted on November 21 against Al Ahli.
"The AFC disciplinary committee has fined Guangzhou Evergrande a total of $160,000 and ordered the club to play its first match in the 2016 season behind closed doors," the football body said.
The game in question is Guangzhou Evergrande's group stage match on February 24 against the winner of East Zone play-off 1.
The Chinese Football Association was also fined $10,000.
Guangzhou are China's most successful club, having won the Chinese Super League the last five years in a row. They also claimed the Asian Champions League twice in the same period.

Luneng's Gil ready for AFC Champions League qualifiers
0 2016-01-28 10:41XinhuaEditor: Gu Liping
"I am ready for the coming AFC Champions League qualifiers," said Brazil centre-back Gil here on Wednesday, who joined Chinese Super League (CSL) side Shandong Luneng on a four-year contract recently.

Gil arrived in Jinan on Jan. 26, the capital city of east China's Shandong Province, in which Luneng club is based.

"In terms of my physical conditions, I kept training with Corinthians before I came here," Gil said with a firm belief of his readiness for the coming matches.

The 28-year-old joined Jadson (Tianjin Songjiang), Luis Fabiano (Tiajin Songjiang), Renato August (Beijing Guoan) as those Brazilian players had been lured to Chinese clubs in recent weeks.

Shandong Luneng FC will play the winner between Mohun Bagan Athletic Club from India and Tampines Rovers FC from Singapore in round-2 qualifier on Feb. 2, at Jinan Olympic Sports Centre.

"I once played with Montillo in Cruzeiro, so I have a brief knowledge of Luneng," Gil said, adding he will learn from other players and help the club go further in the coming season.

Menezes coached Gil in Corinthians in 2014. Gil once played for Cruzeiro and Corinthians, so he knew Luneng's current coach and foreign players.

Gil has been capped five times for Brazil since making his international debut in 2014.

If Shandong Luneng FC qualifies for the third round, they will have to play in Australia, where they will challenge Adelaide United for a place in the final stage of the AFC Champions League.

Be interesting to see what is going to happen with the ACL this year what with the current difficulties between KSA and IRN.

Its a game for everyone. Its not pale, male, or stale. It transcends race, gender, economic status. Its for everyone. - Tal Karp

Gamba Osaka beating Sanfrecce Hiroshima 3-0 in the Semi Final, while Urawa beat Kashiwa 1-0 in extra time.

Urawa and Gamba Osaka will play off in the Cup final on New Year's day, with the winner facing Victory and the loser facing Sydney.

This also confirms FC Tokyo (with Nathan Burns) as Japan's 4th team due to league placing, going in the group with no Australian teams should they win their playoff against the winner of Chonburi and Yangoon United (who apparently now have Milan Susak).

Emperor's Cup Quarter finals just played, the Semi Finals on Tuesday will be Urawa Reds v Kashiwa Reysol and Gamba Osaka v Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Final is New Year's Day.

If league champion Hiroshima win the cup, Gamba Osaka will take the Japanese number 2 spot in Victory's Group and Urawa will take spot #3 in Sydney's, same result if Osaka win.

If Urawa or Kashiwa win the cup they go to Victory's group and Sydney get Osaka,

Adelaide will be in the group with Hiroshima if they qualify.
