John Stensholt wrote: Melbourne Victory majority owners Mario Biasin and Anthony di Pietro have paid about $235,000 to take control of small lower-league Italian football club Triestina.
The move by Biasin, the owner of property developer Metricon, and di Pietro, the managing director of Premier Fruit Group and chairman of the Victory, will last for the rest of the Italian season and could lead to more permanent ownership later in 2016.
Biasin was born in Trieste in Italy's far north-east before moving to Australia as a child.
He has installed a cousin, Mauro Milanese, as the club's technical director after he and di Pietro saved Triestina from winding-up proceedings.
The move puts the Melbourne duo in the box seat to take over Triestina should they wish to. They will fund the struggling team, which plays in Italy's fourth division, for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.
Triestina has a 30,000-capacity stadium and is based in an affluent area. Biasin and di Pietro have a business plan that involves injecting €5 million ($7.9 million) in the club over five years should they take it over
The move is separate to their Victory investment, although the two clubs could eventually share coaching and junior development programs.

As I mentioned in the Vuck thread, sounds like Biasin saw the chance to own his boyhood club (he was born in Trieste according to the article) and Di Pietro has come on board to offer more financial clout in return for most likely an 'exchange of services' in the future between Triestina and the Victory. An ~$8 million investment over the next five years is not chicken shit, so sounds like they're really committed to making this work.

My family is also from Trieste and have been a casual follower of Triestina for years (hard to be anything more than that apart from a short period that they were in Serie B in recent times  ) I'm conflicted just because these guys are Victory people but I hope they can make it work. Will be very tough though.

Clearly see the benefits of buying players then loaning them back to MVC for a lower fee then they are truly paid , guess they got the idea from CITY

Not to mention it gives the club a foothold in Europe, potentially allowing the club to scout players more effectively to bring to the A-League. Also could provide a nice little training camp for pre-season camps and even tours of Europe. But yeah, I'd imagine the number 1 benefit would be the circumvent the transfer rules.

Also, how can a stadium that big be bought for so little money?!?!

Edited by eastern glory: 15/2/2016 11:57:17 AM Yeah the council owns the ground. Have been to a game there back in 2003, nice stadium but needs a lick of paint like many other italian grounds.

victory have just found a way to bullshit the system. they are still sore that city can do something they cant. Trieste will buy milligan and fornaroli (with a big arse sign on bonu$) and "loan" them to victory on shitty wages.

Can't do that anymore since the Troisi loan - club has to pay entirety of wages against their salary cap. So the players being signed to Trieste would be signed on what Victory is willing to pay them in the salary cap.

So the players being signed to Trieste would be signed on what Victory is willing to pay them in the salary cap. They would have low salaries at Trieste, just with huge sign on bonuses to cover it. This means the player still gets huge sums of money but is just on a low weekly salary
