Fixture's out: https://www.melbournevictory.com.au/sites/mvc/files/2020-11/MM0208-A4%20AL%20Fixture.pdf

Six games in January, hopefully the match fitness gained in the ACL really pays off then for a strong start.

Finally someone listened and didn't schedule any derbies until round 5.

AFC Champions League squad for Qatar named

Melbourne Victory Head Coach Grant Brebner has named his 22-man squad for the resumption of the club’s AFC Champions League (ACL) campaign to be played in Qatar.

The squad departs for Doha tomorrow evening as it prepares for its four remaining Group Stage matches. Group E is a tight affair, with Victory currently sitting in third place on goal difference.

Victory’s first outing is against Beijing FC on Tuesday November 24 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. The two sides meet again on November 27, before Victory turns its attention to Chiangrai United (December 1) and FC Seoul (December 4).

The tournament will provide members and fans with the chance to see a number of the club’s new signings in action, including Jacob Butterfield, Ben Folami and Dylan Ryan.

Brebner said his squad is looking forward to playing against quality opposition.

“There is no doubt resuming our campaign mid-way through our pre-season is going to be extremely tough, but we see this as a great opportunity to bring our new squad together on and off the park,” Brebner said.

“We are taking away a squad which has a good blend of experience and youth. Given we have four games in 10 days, we will need to make sure everyone is ready to play should they be required.

“Our first two games against Beijing FC are vitally important to our chances of making it through the group stage, so our focus will be to put in really strong performances against them.

“It’s a privilege to coach in this tournament, it’s a privilege for our players to go and play in this tournament and we are focused on putting in the performances to progress through the group stage.”

Kruse sitting out the ACL:
Socceroos winger Robbie Kruse will not travel as he continues his rehabilitation from the knee surgery that prematurely ended his A-League season but otherwise Victory have close to a full squad to choose from.

https://www.ftbl.com.au/news/victory-will-swap-xmas-presence-for-acl-555864

Gianluca Ianucci has appeared in Victory colours at Gosch's paddock. Jumped ship from City probably thinking he has more of an opportunity with Victory considering the ACL campaign and Kruse's injury history. Good player, very technical and understands the game well. hoping he, Brooks and LLL can push each-other.

Poor Robbie.  He's literally a walking injury.    You really do wonder at what point either he or the club calls it a day.

That last sentence being the key one as it's caused an exodus from the A-League to India, which is hardly a paradise covid-wise either.

Watch the Aussies and the rest of the imports in India leave once they see the lockdowns in India will make Victoria's one look tame

English Winter with lockdowns, restrictions, quarantine hubs, covid cases on the rise.
- Versus -
Aussie summer with potentially no lockdowns, restrictions, quarantine hubs and covid cases quickly declining. Albeit with a bit of a pay cut.

Yeah, considering teh current climate - they've done well.

Perhaps Australia's biggest weakness could be our strength for getting players out here - We are not near anybody else.

If we can still get Gestede and the alleged Argentine CB to complete our visa signings I'll be overjoyed. Brebs and his team have already far surpassed my expectations with the signings they've brought in so far, considering the new cap.

We just need another mdp.  It says a lot when all the foreign cbs and Aussie cbs fail to live up to his lofty heights.

He captained a team to a Bundesliga title. Players like that don't come around every day. Great player.

Victory sticking with the tried and tested “recycle former players model” despite last years debacle - Muscat made it work but can the new guy?

I think it's a sign of a strong club culture, that players want to come back.

People need to adjust their expectations as to what kind of players we can sign this season, considering the context.

We needed to sign at least two senior CBs and as long as he can stay injury-free as possible he'll be an asset. Sure he had the league's best defender ever (if not the best player full stop) to play next to in the 2014-15 season we last did the double, but only for half the season as Delpierre was injured for a good while, so Ansell deserves his dues.

Considering we lost doncs to newy who loaned him out to India.  Its actually a decent pick up. He knows the club and should be coming cheap.  Our defence needed a senior player. Would be great if we could somehow bring back mdp but Ansell is a decent option

Its good to see us making a lot of progress with our squad for next season, but why does it seem Brebs is only looking towards England for visa players?

Could be because Brebs has contacts there, could be because it's a good time to be leaving the UK, could just be a coincidence based on what we've seen so far.
