+x+x+xi can confirm that the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 fixture is forecast to be announced by Football Federation Australia before the end of June 2017 and secondly also we will have two away Melbourne Derbies at AAMI Park. to all 2016/17 MVFC members can renew for the 2017/18 season from mid June 2017. there will be 13 home fixtures in the 2017/18 season as follows: Adelaide United - twice Brisbane Roar - twice Central Coast Mariners - once Melbourne City - once Newcastle Jets - once Perth Glory - once Sydney FC - twice Wellington Phoenix - once Western Sydney Wanderers - twice source - MVFC website via MVFC membership section Playing most of the shit clubs away twice and some of the better clubs at home twice. Could be a favourable fixture this season. And welcome, everybody, to the exact statement that summarises why the Grand Final is the true "Winning of the League" as opposed to the Premiers. Does that mean Melbourne City were the best team last season seeing as they beat Sydney in the Cup Final?

comment from @nickbar35: "Milligan is next. Negotiations almost complete." Anyone here heard about this? Fits the 'two former MV players, 1 visa, 1 aussie' rumour...

I would take Milligan back, but not Barbarousis, we don't need him, he takes up a valuable foreign spot, plays in the same position as Rojas. That foreign spot should be for a quality defender and a marquee midfielder.

Think he'll work well in a troika with Rojas and Bes. We just need that marquee CAM to be top shit.

Think people underrate Kosta a bit. When he's got some support he's one of the best attacking players in the league imho. When we won the GF he was unstoppable that year, and we had FInkler and FBK firing.
The year after Fink and FBK dropped off a cliff, so most games it was all on Kosta/Bes. People started noticing his misses more and more as he was the only one getting in those positions to do so. (Not gonna pretend like his end product couldn't be much better though).
With Rojas in the team to take the attention off him, I think he'll be fantastic again and close to as good as you can get under the cap.
He played a fair bit on the left side of the Nix attack as well, so I expect him and Rojas to interchange freely. Think Rojas will start on the left though.

Milligan is looking for another oil league club according to my last mail, but I'd love it if he came back. Not sure if we can afford to give him our marquee spot though.

I can only see Victory struggling if Bes gets a long term injury, and he's one of the fittest/injury free players we've ever seen in the HAL

I still think Austin should get game time working as a central striker rather than out wide. But we probably need to pick some one up. If the millsy stories are true then we will need a bloody good foreign CB and a top class AM. Its so risky to go back to the future. Having said that i would be happy to have kosta and millsy back

@ scubaroo
Both would be good signings for sure. And just how do you back a player like Berisha up anyway?

+x@ scubaroo Both would be good signings for sure. And just how do you back a player like Berisha up anyway? Well we tried to do that with George Howard, but he's since been released as he seeks more game time - short of changing the formation to play with two strikers up front, which allows a second striker to play off Bes, there is not much else that can be done other than to pray that Bes doesn't get injured.

It's just the nature of a capped league, every team is one key player injury away from being boned.
We were travelling nicely, top of the table with a game in hand, when Valeri fell ill season before last and in 14/15 we never would've come out on top if MDP didn't get back to fitness for the last 11 games. An injury to Ninkovic or Wilkinson would've totally fucked Sydney last year. It's one of the reasons I'd be hesitant to get Kruse back as his injury history puts you at a high probability of boning yourself.

He can barely keep the ball at this feet in acres fo space on the wing, imagine him with his back to goal surrounded by 3 defenders.

+x@ scubaroo Both would be good signings for sure. And just how do you back a player like Berisha up anyway? Well you're not going to be able to sign a foreigner or even a decent aussie, that's why I've been really keen on austin. He wouldn't play like bes, so he's not going to hold the ball up much and as people said, he's not great on the ball... but he didn't need to be on the ball us much as he would on the wing. Playing centrally all he really has to do is play off the shoulder of the last defender. He is so quick he will best them for pace and from his ccm days he can finish and he can find space off the ball. With the constraints of the cap, we already have him, he's not playing much so giving him an extra dimension as a back up would give him more oppertunities. I also think with his frame, although he may not be able to do it yet, he has the capacity to be able to hold the ball up to bring other players in like bes. Having a player like bes is a curse, it means we can't bring in an experienced back up as they cost too much and no one wants to not play.

+xlooks like its back to the future for the Vuck. will struggle to make finals next year on the back of forming an old-boys club One of the keys behind our success over the years is that we always look towards recruiting players that are proven in the HAL. Kosta fits that mould. I admit its not ideal having 2 right sided wingers as visa players, but who's to say one of them won't excel on the left? FBK and Georgievki are right sided players who both excelled on the left flank. Kosta and Rojas constantly switching flanks during the game can also make us a lot more unpredictable.

Club has confirmed the league's worst secret, with Kosta returning to the club for a further 2 seasons: Barbarouses back in blueMelbourne Victory is delighted to announce the signing of 2014/15 double winning attacker, and New Zealand international, Kosta Barbarouses. With 73-games in the navy blue already to his name, Barbarouses re-joins the club for a further two seasons. The 27-year-old joins Socceroo Rhys Williams and young defender Thomas Deng as additions to head coach Kevin Muscat’s squad ahead of the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League season. "We’re extremely happy to have secured Kosta’s services again," said Muscat. "Kosta is a player who really complements the way we like to play and to be able to sign him for the next two years is a big boost so early in the recruiting process. "There’s no doubt in my mind that his best years are still ahead of him, so he’ll be an important player as we navigate our way through a busy campaign that also includes AFC Champions League. "I'm sure our fans will be thrilled with this news as the build up to next season continues," added Muscat. Barbarouses, who spent last season with Wellington Phoenix, shared his coach's excitement. "This really couldn't have worked out any better for me," he said. "I've enjoyed some fantastic times at Melbourne Victory in the past and when the opportunity arose to return, I jumped at it. "I'd also like to thank Wellington Phoenix for understanding my situation and the professional way they handled it. I certainly wish them all the best moving forward," added Barbarouses. Barbarouses is currently in camp with New Zealand and will be part of the All White’s Confederations Cup campaign. Therefore, a date for his arrival to pre-season training is yet to be determined. source

It all depends on what sort of coin he is on = value for money but I'm not that keen about getting him back.
Being on marquee money for the Nix in an underwhelming season isn't great. But how much would he have realistically dropped his wages to make his missus happy? Can't see us giving him unders in this case

I don't think we would've upped our valuation on him really. Trimmers has given no indication that he's an idiot and we tend to get players for lower than what their market value is elsewhere in the HAL (see Troisi and Rojas who'd be marquees practically anywhere else).

Inclined to agree with this - the only black mark against the Vuck in regards to our squad management was the marquee signing of Bozanic, but I'm happy to chalk that up to the FFA being incompetent idiots and changing the rules at the 11th hour.

Sign Barbarouses to replace Troisi. Then release Barbarouses and sign Troisi. Then release Troisi and sign Barbarouses.
For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

I must say, I am disappointed by mv recruitment in this past year, none of the signings have been exciting, they have been very safe and have shown a lack of ambition from the recruitment staff.
As the leading club in league for a decade, we have always had a signing to excite the fans & we haven't had that since the start of our double winning side 2 years ago.
The start of this recruitment stage is again safe, Williams is not an improvement on Baro, I think he is a def mid playing at CB. Kosta is not an improvement on fbk, I hope our next foreign signings are exciting and put a buzz into the upcoming season. Ps don't re sign Troisi either as marquee, he is not a marquee level player.

The one time we were 'ambitious' with our signings we ended up missing out on the finals with Kewell. Playing it safe has worked out remarkably well for us.
