Will certainly look more positive if Honda signs. Troisi on the left in that case, I can't really recall whether he was any good playing out there previously?
Wish Theo had of stayed, would've been exciting seeing him get plenty of game time.

Watching highlights from Honda in Mexico, he seemed to be playing very advanced, almost as a striker.
Could work well with Troisi behind him as they're both comfortable as the playmaker/moving into the role of a second striker.

I think we still need a star import striker, a number 6 (unless we plan to throw Hope in the mix) and some backup attacking depth since Theo is gone. I think we should be moving beyond the days of Valeri being in the spine of the team.
But hey, atleast we have some fullbacks this season - certainly an improvement.

+xI'm normally against recycling former players, but Ansell is still quite a young and upcoming Aussie defender so glad to have him back - was very unfortunate that Donachie was such a success otherwise he probably would've still been with us last season. I think the deal with him always was along the lines of "give Europe a go and I'd it doesn't work out you're welcome back" he's a Victory product who came to our games as a kid, definitely glad to have him back.

I think he has retained his role(s) on merit but I think opportunity has come (especially his more recent forays into full back roles) from the clubs strange aversion at signing anything resembling a specialist full back. I have no problem with him filling in at any position at the back half if someone goes down, but at this stage, we should be looking at adding further quality for the starting XI

North End Standing UpdateWith preparations for the 2018/19 season well underway, we’re excited to share news about the North End for this season. After positive discussions with fan representatives, it has been agreed that three bays at AAMI Park and seven bays at Marvel Stadium will be designated under the new name of ‘North End Standing’ bays. Members and fans in these areas no longer need a specific seat number to gain access to a standing bay. The new guidelines allow anyone with a valid ticket or membership to access a ‘North End Standing’ bay and enjoy the different match day experience – subject to capacity – with casual or one-off supporters also welcome. Bays 36, 37 and 38 will now be ‘North End Standing’ areas at AAMI Park on match days, while the designated bays at Marvel Stadium will remain the same. We will continue to work together with fan representatives to ensure the atmosphere at Melbourne Victory games is the best in the Hyundai A-League. source

There's been no news with Honda other than Muscat all but admitting we're in negotiations. Also no news of him being linked elsewhere that I've seen either; I'd say we would have to be in the final stages of negotiation, but the longer it goes on I feel we'll miss out because that would mean we can't reach a deal on personal terms and conditions. It's the classic Victory way of keeping things tight lipped though so its hard to get a solid read on it. I was thinking that we would still have two marquees still not including Honda but can't remember the actual rule? If any one else knows.

There is nothing in a players' contract specifying whether they are a marquee or not. The marquee status is purely a designation made in the books for the FFA regulations. No reason to sign a new contract. MV would have an agreed dollar value over the course of the 2 year contract. In order to keep him under the cap last season they weighted the second year. So hypothetically they may have paid him 25% for the first year and 75% for the second year. Troisi will almost definitely be a designated marquee this season. If Honda is signed under the FFA marquee funded rule it's my understanding we would still have two marquee spots in addition to the ffa funded spot for Honda.

Does anyone actually know what JT's contract status is? Has anyone seen him since his 'missed the world cup squad so I'm going on a European holiday f#(/ you all'. I thought he signed a 3 year contract last year, the first year being an amount within the cap (300k) and the remaining two years an amount that you just wouldn't or shouldn't pay within the cap (600k +). So JT & Honda if he signs will be the two outside of the cap.
