+xHonda will be our second marquee!! The FFA are just stumping up extra cash so he comes over!! I think that’s what I heard! That would be inconsistent with the marquee fund then - it's designed to be a marketable player that will boost interest, and thus will occupy a third marquee position

Maybe FFA metrics are not local but an international audience, meaning Honda could be useful for them

+x+x+x+x+xAny news on Honda or potential targets Melbourne Victory are looking at? Is triosi or other Marquee signing if we secure Honda? Jt to become marquee will have to sign a new contract . He has one more year left on his current contract and I don't think we will rip it up.to sign him as a marquee That's not really how it works. There is nothing in a players' contract specifying whether they are a marquee or not. The marquee status is purely a designation made in the books for the FFA regulations. No reason to sign a new contract. MV would have an agreed dollar value over the course of the 2 year contract. In order to keep him under the cap last season they weighted the second year. So hypothetically they may have paid him 25% for the first year and 75% for the second year. Troisi will almost definitely be a designated marquee this season. If Honda is signed under the FFA marquee funded rule it's my understanding we would still have two marquee spots in addition to the ffa funded spot for Honda. Yup, far as I was aware Troisi was going marquee as we had back loaded his salary. -PB If Honda is signed with FFA cash, he'll be a third marquee (same as Cahill) so it's all gucci Well then, make it rain Davey G. -PB

+xWill Marvel Stadium have the seats moved in for the games this year or will they be in the oval configuration? I would like to know this also. Would be a good move in tandem with the recent North End announcement.

Would be a good move in tandem with the recent North End announcement. Haven't they done it for every game at Etihad/Marvel for the last few seasons? Or are you thinking with the naming sponsor that it might change?

Was thinking now that the AFL owns it outright that it will never get reconfigured!! Never been when the seats are in!

I was under the understanding that each team has to Marquee players! The FFA will provide assistance to help a team secure one of those marquees under there marquee funds on the bases they help drive support to the aleague as a whole! They won’t be funding the whole wage of a player! So say Melbourne Victory has a triosi as one marquee player.... and pay him $1mil a season they then go after Honda as there second Marquee player they offer him $2mil then ask the FFA for assistance who them chip in another $1mil to get the deal over the line! Not meaning that FFA pay for it and Victory have 3rd marquee.... if that’s the case then that’s blantent mach fixing!! Giving Victory an unfair advantage! Which being a victor supporter even doesn’t sit well with me but I’d take it just to compete better in the Asian champions league!!!

That would be inconsistent with the marquee fund then - it's designed to be a marketable player that will boost interest, and thus will occupy a third marquee position Each Franchise can sign 2 players outside the cap without permission from the FFA, but they don't have to in order to also get a FOX funded Marquee If they want FOX Fund cash then they have to ask the FFA for permission (FOX stipulation for their funds administered by FFA) If they want a 3rd Marquee without FOX cash, they also have to ask for FFA permission. The Franchises agree that a 3rd Marquee must be marketable as decided by FFA. (eg Diamanti wasn't going to be FOX funded, MV just wanted another Marquee) At least that was the Timmy Season (2015/16) rule, but AFIK it was only agreed by the Franchise for that Season only. Last Season the Franchises were given $300k instead, as a sweetener for lack of TV deal funds (despite the Franchises saying that wasn't good enough) I've not actually seen the AFPCA agree to this rule again for this coming Season, but given Griffin is quiet recently maybe it's been OK'd FOX funded player doesn't necessarily have to be the 3rd Marquee, a Franchise may only have the one.

When Cahill was signed to City, they also had two designated marquee players (Fornaroli and Colazo) in addition to Cahill. It's not exactly clear if the rules have changed. I'm not sure the FFA even know, they just make things up as they go. If the rule is still the same then MV could sign two designated marquee players (Troisi + ?) as well as Honda as the FFA funded Marquee. As for fairness. It's an absolute joke, just like it was when City signed Cahill. As much as i'd like to see Honda here, i'd be far happier if he was signed purely on the MV dollar. However, seeing as this opportunity exists, of course clubs will try and get a piece of that FFA money and you can't blame them for doing so.

If we sign Honda he will be on 4-6million I imagine. If a normal marquee for us is 1-1.5 million, an extra 3 - 4.5 million is a massive amount without taking the Fox money. Say we get 2million from the Fox money, that means we would only have to pay an extra 1-2 million over what we would usually pay a marquee player. It seems possible considering we got 1million for Milligan, 800k for Geria and 600k for Williams.

Yeh but my question is I don’t think you can have 3 players on marquee money even though one is funded by fox/ffa. It will only be allowed I imagine that 2players be on marquee money at the most! One part funded by the FFA/Fox money! not 3!
So with Victory we will have Troisi and Honda!!
We will have to look for a cheaper option for a stricter and left wing.... no any bargain strikers or left wings in the market in Europe?????

It is still unclear if that is actually the case. Personally I don't think teams should be able to have an extra marquee funded by a third party, however it was allowed with Cahill at City. So it's definitely possible Honda will be able to be a third at MV. It's just unclear if it will be. The FFA have always been a bit cloudy on the definition of this rule.

In the middle of the Eto'o article: "Melbourne Victory might also come into the frame should top target Keisuke Honda fail to accept an offer, topped up by around $2 million from the FFA’s marquee fund, to join them in 2018-2019. It’s understood the Japanese playmaker, who has been playing hardball over his wage structure, will give Victory coach Kevin Muscat a final answer over the weekend."
Hmmm, well I guess we'll see in a couple of days then. I was a bit concerned that we hadn't heard anything for a week. I wonder if 'wage structure' means MV want FFA to put in more or if he generally wants more overall that's being offered. I also feel like these protracted negotiations with our club always end up with the player fucking off. Getting a player of his quality while also utilising the '+1' for the ACL tilt will be an amazing boost to the rarified air of progression for us.

I'm wondering if we will hear if he doesn't sign with us. Not sure if he's actually in he country or if we're negotiating remotely (most likely), but could mean over the weekend US time??

For the record I can't see Maclaren coming back to Australia as he is contracted with Darmstadt, but I think the Honda deal is on!

Lots of Hibs fans tweeting that they think theyve secured his return. I cant see him coming back just yet. Honda would be huge and would be glad to see that signing completed
