+x+xTerrible call to sin no Sua for late tackle on the half... Not even a penalty for mine.. they need to look at how they police this... If a half wants to turn their back on a firwardtwhos feet are set for a tackle, they deserve what they get... What gets binned and what doesn't is a bit of a lottery Rorters had one midway through second half that was equally 'bad'/innocuous... No bin... Assuming it's cos it wasn't on a half... And we gotta protect the halves right Joey!?!?!.... Cos they never dummy and run... Late hits are really obvious for mine... Any interpretation that involves protecting certain positions is crap... Said it before, but if U turn your back on the D when running deep into the line, you deserve the whack... A positive is there seems to be, in the main less penalties for accidental crushers... and head highs... Though there have been a couple of bludgers as well...
Games closer so far this year... A wait and see on if its the changes to set restarts or early season form... Or perhaps something else...

I don’t agree with players being unfairly advantaged but it can benefit us greatly. It’s up to Baz to take advantage of it.

My old hobby horse. How can one penalty infringement, obstruction, be cancelled out by another, infringement voluntary tacke? An offending team can score, and have, after retaining the ball in this scenario.

Another one. Player with the ball holding the jersey of a defender after tackle completed. This slows the defender from getting into the defensive line. Never penalised. Reverse the situation. Penalty.

AND this is why I keep banging on that scrums must return to a contest for the ball and not roll it throught the second row/locks legs bullsh!t.

If you return scrums to a contest for the ball again it means you get multiple scrum re-sets again, scrum penalties again, boring ref pedantic instructions and interpretations again - basically RU waste of 20 mins of game-time again. Why would anybody want that? What is the attraction in a scrum? Have a good look at scrums from the 70’s and it’s nothing but a 24 legged creature kicking itself in the shins until it falls over. And then there’s a penalty… or worse - it’s made to do it again.

I'd have them in a heartbeat. One of the fundamentals of the game, the contest for the ball, has been taken away. Backlines clogged by forwards so nothing happens from scrums because there's no pushing. Just a joke.

Mdog, I 100% agree. As boring and inept as it may seem to some not only is it part of the fabric of rugby league, but performed properly, untainted by referees interpretation, it not only provides a contest for possession of the ball, it keeps the forwards busy and for the first set allows the backlines to cleanly oppose one another for some interesting attacking football.

Recently some information passed my eyes, I don't know whether it's just a rumour, speculation, wishful thinking or someone just talking sh!t, but I heard Reed Mahoney is unhappy at the scum and wants an immediate release. Can anyone enlighten me regarding this information?.

The reason I included the point thst it could be jusy someone talking out of their @rse is that this "rumour" indicated he was willing to play for free! If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. NRLol only allows SYD, MLB, BRS, STH to engage players significantly under market value... And $0 is significantly under... Perhaps a player swap may be an option but I can't see Parra facilitating a request...

Can anyone enlighten me regarding this information?. As much as i would like to think it, the competitive part of me (and probably Reed's) is that he wants to win a premiership and i dont think you need a space degree to think he has a better chance winning one with the Eels in 2022 than he has in any of the 4 years he will be with us...... So if he has an iota of competitive spirit in him and the desire to win a premiership, he will suck it up and play with a team that has been within a whisker of GF in the last 2 years. ...As mentioned, i would love to get him here a year earlier but i think the rumour is probably BS

Reed just wants to play for a decent club.

Exactly. Having scrums back would destroy the game. I think the fans whinge enough about bad ref calls. I don’t want to think about the conspiracy theories around scrum penalties.
It’s honestly time to fuck off scrums altogether. And while we are at it remove the stripping rule, if you strip the ball at any time penalty. One on one, penalty. Trying to score, penalty. If you have the ball you have a right to keep it.
If the refs are also told that the play the ball should be slowed down we will see the backs involved more. So enforce standing up. Standing on the mark. Place the ball and touch it with the foot. That will see more backline movements. Not scrums.

Yeah why not... and while we're at it get of the tackle too, dumb rule only slows the attack down. Micko, do you want to watch Rugby League or would you rather Rugba Leeg the touch footy version. I know everyone would like to see an up tempo 1,000 miles an hour non stop game but it is not RL, never has been, never will be. And your suggestion re the strip, that would work a treat hey.. the attacking team would deliberately let go of the ball on the 5th tackle and one team would never see it... why do you think they got rid of the unlimited tackle rule.

Rugby League as we know it started in Sydney in 1908 and in 113 years the scrum has failed to destroy it. All the NRLol need to remove is the thuggery and the unnecessary dangerous play...... oh and tidy up the refereeing situation.

Also penalties in the opposition half, the attacking side should have the option of a gosl kick, a quick tap, kick for line or a scrum. Knock ons and forward passes just give the non-offending team a tap with the line back 10 metres.

But with the fitness levels of modern athletes, the defense would be well on top 98% of the time, in many games not a single try would be scored, especially with a 5 metre rule. The game would be 5 hit ups for a kick, set after set. The only thing that can stop that is very quick play the balls which means refs having a big say in the outcome. Last season some aspects went off the rails, but overall fitness and skill levels are improving each year, the game is getting faster eavh year. That means more action for the fans. I don't want to return to the past, when I rewatch games from that era, I prefer the modern game.
