hd, we do need to modernise the game but not change it beyond all recognition. As pointed out earlier if both teams make an infringement on the rules one can't cancel out the other and a fair contest scrum is the only solution. If the scrum is deemed to be an issue then just alter the rules to indicate when a scrum can (or can't) be formed.

For the sake of a “contest for the ball” are you willing to trade feet across the scrum penalties, collapsing the scrum penalties, loose arm penalties, second row feed penalties… and they’re just the ones I can think of, there’s more I’m sure.
The only thing a scrum’s good for is a set play, so roll it through the lock’s feet and get on with it.
The only thing old school scrum’s were good for is they gave you time to go have a piss, or a shit, or a wank.
Or even all three.

+x+x+xMdog thy should have been made to have the scrum again. AND this is why I keep banging on that scrums must return to a contest for the ball and not roll it throught the second row/locks legs bullsh!t. If you return scrums to a contest for the ball again it means you get multiple scrum re-sets again, scrum penalties again, boring ref pedantic instructions and interpretations again - basically RU waste of 20 mins of game-time again. Why would anybody want that? What is the attraction in a scrum? Have a good look at scrums from the 70’s and it’s nothing but a 24 legged creature kicking itself in the shins until it falls over. And then there’s a penalty… or worse - it’s made to do it again.
Exactly. Having scrums back would destroy the game. I think the fans whinge enough about bad ref calls. I don’t want to think about the conspiracy theories around scrum penalties.
It’s honestly time to fuck off scrums altogether. And while we are at it remove the stripping rule, if you strip the ball at any time penalty. One on one, penalty. Trying to score, penalty. If you have the ball you have a right to keep it.
If the refs are also told that the play the ball should be slowed down we will see the backs involved more. So enforce standing up. Standing on the mark. Place the ball and touch it with the foot. That will see more backline movements. Not scrums. Probably a reasonable balance where it is now... It provides extra space having those 6 blokes out of the line when it happens... No scrums is a step too far... As for the contest, pretty sure there is no rule against pushing in scrum... Players are more concerned and no doubt coached to break as quickly as possible to get back in the D line, pushing would counter that...

+xYeah why not... and while we're at it get of the tackle too, dumb rule only slows the attack down. Micko, do you want to watch Rugby League or would you rather Rugba Leeg the touch footy version. I know everyone would like to see an up tempo 1,000 miles an hour non stop game but it is not RL, never has been, never will be. And your suggestion re the strip, that would work a treat hey.. the attacking team would deliberately let go of the ball on the 5th tackle and one team would never see it... why do you think they got rid of the unlimited tackle rule. Look. I certainly don’t want a faster game. I want to slow it down. Yes scrums help that but they are boring as bat shit.
I’m sure you’ll agree that if the refs did their job the game would be better. All I’m saying is that the scrums won’t help make the game slower and better. They will simply waste time. Let’s be honest we both want to see the players running and passing not hugging. The best way to do this is by slowing down the play the ball. How should we do that?

How often does the ball go past the first receiver from the scrum half these days?

Making players play the ball properly would be a start... But.. NRLol tried that and shit the bed 4 weeks later after the media did their thing...

+xGreat start... Boys showing a heap of passion... Happy with the first thalf, unlucky not to have posted another try. Let's see if the Boncos big boys have chewed up some petrol.

Seem to be only reffing one side for the forward passes. Other than that happy with what I'm seeing and hope the boys now lift the intensity in the second half.

Looking like we are definitely capable of putting points on this year... Our D is committed and line speed like something we haven't seen for years...

If that last try isn't enough to make Barrett hook Okunbor then maybe Barrett is not the man for us.

Another great effort... We keep playing with that level of energy and effort we will start to get the bounce of the ball... A Naden pass and Burto has a kick for golden point...

Overall pretty happy with the effort.
Just lacking a bit of execution and 2 fairly soft tries conceded.
Schoupp should replace Okunbor.

That try that the gronkos scored from the strip that was a very bad call from the officials. Other than that great effort from the Dogs and a few calls go our way it may have been a different result.

We should improve with a few more games.
Broncos defence a big improvement on last season, against good defence we need a bit more polish and combination in attack.

how many chances does "dreadlocks" get - it's as if Barrett is waiting for the guy to run hard, defend hard, and use his effin' body- the guy is a bloody passenger - and people say you gotta have big wingers - I 'd take Matt Utai tomorrow after 4 meat pies, 6 beers and no training the team tries hard but this guy ....if he played for free then he is being paid overs - at least run and chase hard you goose rather than throw your hands up and appeal " oh I can't turn and chase cause I am big and can't turn and i get lost" well tell that guys who DO chase like jacko and James Graham and every body else

I’m all for replacing OK. But we need a big body. Who? We just need a big fast winger. How fucking hard is it? I’m wishing we just let him go when he got in trouble. Then we have no choice.

I'm not so sure we need a big bodies winger with our pack/bench and nadens carries... A bloke that can make ten on kick returns, finish trys, and stay on his fekking man/line would be fine... Allen straight back in on wing when fit for mine...

Unfortunately with Okunbor on the wing and Averillo at half we will struggle for wins.
