+x+x+xSo what is the vibe for 2024? Most experts would say that we are short of middle forwards, but stronger in most other positions then 2023. I like the fact that we want to develop forwards and are giving some young guys a shot. I tend to agree that we are lacking props. Compare us to almost any other team and we are most likely the worst in that area. What really worried me is the team list I looked at when we last made finals. We had Tolman, Graham, Kasiano and Klemmer. Now we have guys that are reserve graders playing front row.
So the only way to win would be to speed up the tempo of the game and use smaller more mobile props. It’s not something I would do but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ciro is going to attempt that tactic. As a coach you have to work with what you have.
If we can still out score opposition teams with a game plan that negates our lack of go forward and most likely field position we can possibly win the comp. But I would be very surprised if that worked. I think that we will be relying on tempo, grit, execution, completions and kicking game. Holding up the attacker in goal is sufficient to prevent a try ,defending the tryline is possible with grit, energy and teamwork. In 2023 we had too many silly dropped balls then a lack of grit energy and teamwork in defence. Guys like Hughes, Patolo and KK have a bit of size, we have some other relative unknowns with a bit of size .But the defence will be partially dependent on small high workrate defenders working hard and working together, In attack, kicking game, ball movement and speed can partially compensate for a lack of yards. Good coaching is always using what you have, also improving what we have and getting what we need. Since we haven't been able to sign a good middle, we need to get the most out of what we have. Don't kid yourselves. We will be relying on opposition errors from Burton bombs. That, until CC realises it's either his head on the chopping block or Burton's. And then he will finally discover we are lacking halves to make us competitive and will try Taaffe and Hutch with Sexton.

Fullback - Critter, Taaffee, Tracey, Halfback - Sexton, Taaffe, Hutch 5/8 - Burton, Tracey, Taaffe, Hutch, Critter.Salmon. 14 - Taaffe, Hutch, Mann, Salmon, KO Hooker - Reed, Turpin, For starters we can probably cop an injury in any spine position and have an adequate replacement. We want the round 1 spine to be right and for it to last the first 10 rounds if possible. IMO CC has sufficient spine options, no excuses. We seem to be lacking 1-2 quality starting props, the spine needs to be right because we need to hang in for the first 20 mins and stay in the contest. After 20 mins it should get easier.

Well actually they have resolved one issue, and that was to purge the team of all the negative influences. They got rid of those that were unwilling or incapable of putting in the effort . Sure they bought a lot of "utiity" type players, but these players are experienced and know what is required. So, what I expect to see next year, is 80 minute performances and an absence of continuous dumb rookie errors putting us under pressure that we had trouble defending. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Not sure if our players lacked footy IQ altogether or it seemed to disappear under fatigue but it certainly looked like we were more prone to the silly error than the top teams. It could also be a case that we couldn't defend and error which is generally a hallmark of a top team. I read somewhere that the overhaul of players was to bring in winners from other teams. Let's hope these guys can make a positive influence rather than get influenced by the team and brought down to it's level. Taaffe and Hutch are probably the guys I'm most keen to see how they'll go in our colours. Mann is another.

Once again the challenge goes out to you to actually nominate what your fixes are, or would have been… Other than dropping Burton, and lamenting not signing ARey (who again I assert would do nothing behind our pack missing Thommo, TPJ for much of it, Kiks, and an obviously injured King and Sutto) you’ve suggested is zilch…. And the reason for that you literally have zero reasonable and/or achievable ideas…

Averillo and Alamotti were poor defensive centres, they might improve. 3. Casey wasn't NRL standard. 4. Flanno has so far never resembled an NRL halfback. 5. Wardell, Okunbor and TPJ capable of good play, but all have an unfortunate knack of an bad error at a bad time. 6. Tommo unfortunately injured a lot in recent seasons. These "weak links" and other players playing with injury or out injured put pressure on the remaining players. Apart from perhaps Averillo I doubt that I will reget any of these players leaving. When we look at the signings, Xeri is a bit of a gamble and an unknown after so long out of the game. Turpin and Faamausili are hopefully solid players I am expecting a contribution not a leasing role. Critter is truly an elite class player who can change the result of games, all the rest of the signings are battle hardened NRL professionals who should mostly make good decisions and have a low error rate. Guys like Edwards, Morrin and Hughes will be better for the run. Who we got rid of is even more important than who we signed. We needed to make a call on guys like Wardell and Okunbor.

HDs List… Equally as important is the rebuild of junior pathways… But nothings changed!!!… We haven’t fixed our problems by signing players not available… Why can’t they win tomorrow like a kids Team against fancy boys???….

How long until the new Premier begs Albo for financial assistance host the Games???… The easy way out is obviously… The Olympic Games brought to you by pf(u)izer…

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xSo what is the vibe for 2024?
FMD Marki, when are going to change the fvcking record. You keep spewing out the same old sh!t yet the season is still 3 months away. We haven't fixed anything ODF.... When will the club actually fix our issues rather than tread water until the solution falls into our lap? It's the same old sh!t coz it's the same old issues that haven't been resolved. Well actually they have resolved one issue, and that was to purge the team of all the negative influences. They got rid of those that were unwilling or incapable of putting in the effort . Sure they bought a lot of "utiity" type players, but these players are experienced and know what is required So, what I expect to see next year, is 80 minute performances and an absence of continuous dumb rookie errors putting us under pressure that we had trouble defending. Sit back and enjoy the ride. No doubt CC has identified a lack of high IQ playersnin the team. Where do you see Taafe and Hutch lining up in rnd 1… and where would you like to see them line up???… This is an interesting question spine/ 14 are hard to pick with many contenders. If might come down to trials... Sexton is probably the favourite for halfback, but Hutch might edge him out. Size and defence favour Hutch. Taaffe is a real shot at the round 1 fullback position. Taaffe is similar to Drinkwater, Barba, when a team is lacking a bit of creativity this kind of player is a good option at fullback. Critter would make a good fullback similar to Teddy with more football IQ and playmaking ability, and a less dangerous running game. Tracey would make a good classical fullback a bit of a mixture of Taaffe and Critter but with less play making ability. Tracey would also make a good centre. I would roll the dice. Centres - Critter/ Tracey, 1. Taaffe. 6 Burton. 7. Hutch 9. Reed. 13. Curran 14. Salmon (mostly lock) I am not ruling Sexton out I just see Hutch as a more solid / reliable option who we can afford to play with Taaffe at fullback. If Taaffe isn't fullback, I am less inclined to pick Hutch at 7.

But he did seem to be solid and composed. I think Hutch played a fair amount of halfback in the lower grades, was highly rated, but didn't translate that form to NRL. Sexton definitely has a higher ceiling, but also seems to be more inconsistent.

They know how to go after weaknesses in opposition or play to advantage. They may not be the best in their respective positions but they sure know how to influence a game.

That means Taaffe or Tracey at FB, Hutch and Sexton in the halves. Crichton at right centre with Kiraz outside him. For me, that's our best lineup. Hope CC sees it the same way.

Let's hope these guys can make a positive influence rather than get influenced by the team and brought down to it's level. Taaffe and Hutch are probably the guys I'm most keen to see how they'll go in our colours. Mann is another. I've mentioned numerous times before I would have made serious attempts at signing Moses, Gutho, DCE or Hunt. Love them or hate them, these guys are smart players. They know how to go after weaknesses in opposition or play to advantage. They may not be the best in their respective positions but they sure know how to influence a game. S ok guys today were unavailable or in the case of Moses never leaving???… cool plan… You miss one, you double down on the other. You can't miss your man. Otherwise you miss top 10 and are playing for the spoon every year. Same excuses from you guys all the time. I E was too expensive, the other was never leaving, Roosters were always going to outbid us. Ok fine. Rest on your laurels.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xSo what is the vibe for 2024?
Once again all youv’e done is come up with nothing… No suggestions on who to chase now that is available, just lamenting the players we were unlikely to get anyway… Impossible for you to give any credit for the signings of players who were actually available like Kiks and Critter…. I would find it very difficult to believe our people didn’t have a chat with Moses management when the opportunity presented… and they definitely spoke with Hunt who wants to go back to QLD and wasn’t gonna be released anyway…Moses is a $6M flat track bully who with stacked side lead his team to 10th last year… both wise decisions not pursuing for mine… You can call it what you like… The only laurels around here are your Laurel and Hardy level posts…

We are all aware of the teams requirements and we all know that there are very few if any middles available. Our acquistions to date comprise of experienced, hardened and recognised first grade quality utilities. Maybe CC is going to go with a lighter more mobile forward pack in an attempt to fatigue the opposition. The NRLol aren't going to change the six again rule so why not use it to our advantage. That's my take on the 24 season anyway.

But nothing is being done!!!… and Burto is the devil!!!… All hope is lost… I expect Knight will be good for us… I also expect Maxy will be much better not playing completely broken every week… same goes for Sutton… Kiks on the field will likely help us in some small way… Than we also have someone to take the defences mind completely off stopping Burto in Sexy or perhaps Hutch… This likely helps Lou Red not overplay his hand as well…
Curran runs great lines, Manncrush tackles all day…
That said, why can’t we just sack everyone and sign the Australian Team sans Teddy, with Manu at fullback???…

We can afford a modest amount of optimism.

That’s a brave call while it’s still 2023… not quiet as brave as not naming a single available target for the club though… Almost like that great prophet of doom… you know… that guy… that thinks that props are irrelevant… that guy… that coaches kids… the guy…who can sign players with 10 year contracts… and no idea about a clubs salary cap position… ahh yes mockstradamus!!!… Resting on your Laurel and Hardy’s again I see… be better…

The other thing is, with the churn, the refs may not recognise or hate most of our squad… they might see a bunch of panthers players and allow us after held is called to twist the tackled player around so they face their own try line in every single tackle…. And anyone that thinks the ex panthers aren’t keen to get one over the mates after leaving, has never had a mate…
