+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xSo what is the vibe for 2024? Most experts would say that we are short of middle forwards, but stronger in most other positions then 2023. I like the fact that we want to develop forwards and are giving some young guys a shot. I tend to agree that we are lacking props. Compare us to almost any other team and we are most likely the worst in that area. What really worried me is the team list I looked at when we last made finals. We had Tolman, Graham, Kasiano and Klemmer. Now we have guys that are reserve graders playing front row.
So the only way to win would be to speed up the tempo of the game and use smaller more mobile props. It’s not something I would do but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ciro is going to attempt that tactic. As a coach you have to work with what you have.
If we can still out score opposition teams with a game plan that negates our lack of go forward and most likely field position we can possibly win the comp. But I would be very surprised if that worked. I think that we will be relying on tempo, grit, execution, completions and kicking game. Holding up the attacker in goal is sufficient to prevent a try ,defending the tryline is possible with grit, energy and teamwork. In 2023 we had too many silly dropped balls then a lack of grit energy and teamwork in defence. Guys like Hughes, Patolo and KK have a bit of size, we have some other relative unknowns with a bit of size .But the defence will be partially dependent on small high workrate defenders working hard and working together, In attack, kicking game, ball movement and speed can partially compensate for a lack of yards. Good coaching is always using what you have, also improving what we have and getting what we need. Since we haven't been able to sign a good middle, we need to get the most out of what we have. Don't kid yourselves. We will be relying on opposition errors from Burton bombs. That, until CC realises it's either his head on the chopping block or Burton's. And then he will finally discover we are lacking halves to make us competitive and will try Taaffe and Hutch with Sexton. FMD Marki, when are going to change the fvcking record. You keep spewing out the same old sh!t yet the season is still 3 months away. We haven't fixed anything ODF.... When will the club actually fix our issues rather than tread water until the solution falls into our lap? It's the same old sh!t coz it's the same old issues that haven't been resolved. Well actually they have resolved one issue, and that was to purge the team of all the negative influences. They got rid of those that were unwilling or incapable of putting in the effort . Sure they bought a lot of "utiity" type players, but these players are experienced and know what is required So, what I expect to see next year, is 80 minute performances and an absence of continuous dumb rookie errors putting us under pressure that we had trouble defending. Sit back and enjoy the ride. No doubt CC has identified a lack of high IQ playersnin the team. Not sure if our players lacked footy IQ altogether or it seemed to disappear under fatigue but it certainly looked like we were more prone to the silly error than the top teams. It could also be a case that we couldn't defend and error which is generally a hallmark of a top team. I read somewhere that the overhaul of players was to bring in winners from other teams. Let's hope these guys can make a positive influence rather than get influenced by the team and brought down to it's level. Taaffe and Hutch are probably the guys I'm most keen to see how they'll go in our colours. Mann is another. I've mentioned numerous times before I would have made serious attempts at signing Moses, Gutho, DCE or Hunt. Love them or hate them, these guys are smart players. They know how to go after weaknesses in opposition or play to advantage. They may not be the best in their respective positions but they sure know how to influence a game. S ok guys today were unavailable or in the case of Moses never leaving???… cool plan… You miss one, you double down on the other. You can't miss your man. Otherwise you miss top 10 and are playing for the spoon every year. Same excuses from you guys all the time. I E was too expensive, the other was never leaving, Roosters were always going to outbid us. Ok fine. Rest on your laurels. Once again all youv’e done is come up with nothing… No suggestions on who to chase now that is available, just lamenting the players we were unlikely to get anyway… Impossible for you to give any credit for the signings of players who were actually available like Kiks and Critter…. I would find it very difficult to believe our people didn’t have a chat with Moses management when the opportunity presented… and they definitely spoke with Hunt who wants to go back to QLD and wasn’t gonna be released anyway…Moses is a $6M flat track bully who with stacked side lead his team to 10th last year… both wise decisions not pursuing for mine… You can call it what you like… The only laurels around here are your Laurel and Hardy level posts… Your knowledge of football is telling.... Moses missed the back end of the season which coincides with Parras demise and ultimately costing them a finals chance. They also lost Reed and barely got anything from Hodgson. Once again no matter how good their forwards were (and they are bloody well as good as any team) without a decent spine they were useless. Which is my point, and had been for the last decade. No spine, no chance.

+xWe are all aware of the teams requirements and we all know that there are very few if any middles available. Our acquistions to date comprise of experienced, hardened and recognised first grade quality utilities. Maybe CC is going to go with a lighter more mobile forward pack in an attempt to fatigue the opposition. The NRLol aren't going to change the six again rule so why not use it to our advantage. That's my take on the 24 season anyway. I certainly expect us to be less lazy around the ruck and have more bodies in motion in attack. That alone should see us wrestle some field dominance back. You don't need big barreling forwards. Guys who can time their runs in attack and defence can be equal if not more effective.

Bwahahaha… the oracle at it again… he missed two games you know it nothing… by which stage they had to win all games and rely on other results… the only ‘back end’ is the one you talk out of… Now that I think about it, I reckon they had the bye last round so he missed a week… #Laurel&hardy… Have my own fekking research… injured in rd 24 against Broncs… missed 2 weeks… then the bye…but they we’re relying on other result had he played or not… Not good enough for a $6M man behind that pack… with one of the best FBs in the game, a rising star at 9 from rd 14, and Dlybags when not suspended… When Gutho comes to his senses and leaves, they will sink like a stone, back to the bottom where Eels dwell.

Gus nominated Sam Hughes as the player impressing at training so far after nominating Presto last season.
If Hughes,Patolo and KK step up a level, Kicks, Presto, Curran and King deliver as expected then we might have a pack that can match it at NRL level.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xSo what is the vibe for 2024?
The only way to even remotely listen to Country and Western is play it backwards.. it sounds a bit more bearable and has a happy ending.

Good news… In even better news if the rumour about us no longer pursuing AFB is correct we have the money to sign any halfback not on the market with an existing long term contract. Or even better, one that wants to stay at their current club and use us to drive up their price, or better still one that wants to live to QLD or NZ…

#offseasonpost…
Would it be fair to assume the people of FNQ are OK…. Cos after days of wall to wall predicted ‘horror, terror, and devastation’ Loosa Wilkinson is the lead story on the same legacy media sites???… I hope so… I’ll also assume Ukraine has won the war on the same basis… cos I haven’t heard a peep since early October…
Disgusting Hack Grub Presstitute Germoulists…

How long would people offer the Panthers 6 to get him across the line as a half???… Does anyone see him a 7 type player that could play with Burto at 6???… Is playing two 6 type players a reasonable plan???… Or do we sign him to replace Burto at 6????… Cos the moves gotta me made now…

Good player will probably be a decent 7, but likely to be high priced. I'll leave this to Gus and CC.

Don't need him, I personally would rather not have him. Expensive and surplus to requirements, but that's my opinion.

It’s not too tough a call. Is there a better half in the competition? Cleary yes. Munster yes. Reynolds maybe. Who else?
Luai is a winner. He knows no other way. The challenge of leading his own team and proving the doubters wrong is more than enough to get the best out of him.
I also think him and Burto are very different players and would compliment each other very well. Luai runs the attack very well close to the line and Burto controls the long kicking game and is free to run when needed.

However he will be in demand and high priced, depends in part on our other options, other needs and cap space, all stuff we don't know. The young half who steered the Flegg team to a GF win is very good.

This is where I am it with it now… Easily the best available half for likely the next few years… He did a good job at the World Cup leading his team around… We grabbed close to best 2nd rower and Winger in the game when available , and best centre…So why not the best available half… I don’t like his carry on as a Panther but will embrace as a Dog… Burto and Romy will do a more than serviceable job in the beginning, and dependant on Burto development the junior halves will have to excel to get a crack or Burto may end up a lock as his D improves..

2024 will be a true indicator of where we are at.
In 2023 I noticed some good individual performances by our forwards, Preston, King, Patolo, Hughes, Morrin (especially) and Edwards.
These ultimately came to nothing because our spine or other players fumbled the play we ended up losing the field position and possession battle.
Another issue was King got injured, Hughes and Patolo were battling long term injuries, even Preston got injured eventually. Next issue the young guys were inconsistent and often backed up a good performance with a below average performance or after a few good weeks dropped off the pace.
Averillo and Kiraz in the backs were similar.
Burton and Fox were good in 2022, but didn't hit that standard in 2023.
A lot is going to come down to completions, end of set options and execution in 2024. If there is no improvement in those areas, our spine needs a major overhaul and we need to look at expensive options like Luai.
10 weeks might be long enough to judge, I think that the forwards can give the spine a bit more help. If is a chicken and egg situation. Team-mates can help each other out, or make life harder for each other.

Backing up good with bad is common for young players… Hoping we don’t have the injury issues of last year… anyone who doesn’t think it contributed to our performances is an idiot… The thing with Romy is unless he’s planning on pulling a Moses and never intending to leave and drag it out to milk the Panthers of every cent, we likely have to act now… Or do we??… There is no better person than Gus to play that game… I can’t for the life of me figure out how any player wouldn’t favour the dogs over the tigers or dragons, who appear to be the only other options.. unless it’s only about money… And if we don’t get him, I think Sexy has plenty of po…

+x+x2024 will be a true indicator of where we are at. No knock on Romy , I think that he is chasing the next challenge.. But how would Romy have gone playing in the Dogs 2023 side? As for Sexy, I agree that he has all of the skills, instincts and knowledge needed to be a good half. What young halves need more than anything is the ability to filter out external noise, the confidence to keep playing their game and the trust in their taam-mates to play the long game and not force the play. The thing about team sport is all parts of the team need to be in good shape and the team needs to work together Working together and trusting Team-mates is also an area where we can improve. At the bottom of the table the list of things that can be improved is long. All of the list needs to be fixed and that extends far beyond one player.

+x#offseasonpost… Would it be fair to assume the people of FNQ are OK…. Cos after days of wall to wall predicted ‘horror, terror, and devastation’ Loosa Wilkinson is the lead story on the same legacy media sites???… I hope so… I’ll also assume Ukraine has won the war on the same basis… cos I haven’t heard a peep since early October… Disgusting Hack Grub Presstitute Germoulists… Lol. Is Zelenksy still wearing those military camouflage pants? He wears them everywhere. There should be a new fashion line called "Zelenksy-wear". Get them for Christmas. You can wear them at dinner parties, meetings with world leaders, sleep in them or wear them to the beach! You can even wear them when you go to war!

He’s gonna need em if he don’t leave there permanently… and it won’t be Russians he’ll be needing to hide from…
