+xHonestly that's exactly what i would have guessed was happening to old racehorses. Anyone who knows anything about country Australia knows that is where most animals end up when their purpose has expired. Facts. I agree. Considering the amount of horses they breed, the numbers must be staggering that are retired out of the industry when they aren't good enough to win and/or get too old to justify feeding them. That is the crux of the issue. They are breeding too many. The costs would be staggering to maintain an unsuccessful horse for profit. The current legislation in NSW calls for a comfortable retirement so what's happening, at present, without any overseeing by the relevant bodies, is illegal, in many cases. A full assessment of this aspect of the industry is needed. Police have moved in already at the Qld abbattoir, pending further investigation.

The perpetrators should be banned and imprisoned, no doubt about it... but let’s not allow a few rooted apples etc... I never believe the media, they put themselves in that position with their agenda driven crap... all of them... Racing NSW set the benchmark when it came to retired horses... And it looks like they may have to up their game on policing it... but for mine, in the context of the debate on this page I reckon V’landys has been poorly judged...

Theres also a film clip I’ll post if I can remember it that is a cracking tribute...

+x+x+x+xMaybe some stats on number of charges laid and if any, penalties applied, may have been helpful in defending the industry.. Waller and Freedman seem concerned. Maybe... And maybe they were given and edited out... Anyway I’m off to practice my climate change dancing for the police cos ABC said it’s right... Edited out of Racing NSW's response? Sorry thought you meant the interview.... Either way V’landys said there’d been no evidence of it occurring in NSW (a key point) so there couldn’t be any stats... Didn't they show vid of a processing place near Camden? A lot of the horses at the Qld abbatoir were NSW horses. It seems they need more regulating and a microchip to bring about some changes. Apparently the filming done was not by the ABC and they used 3rd party vids to avoid the new whistleblower legislation.

This whole debate started with a crack at V’lan as if he was in charge of all horse racing.... It has since turned into a debate about ‘the industry’ which I absolutely agree needs better management and regulation... I wonder how many people boycotted meat post ABC live exports stories... It’s so easy to get outraged about something a person has no interest or investment (eating meat) in... Sheep and cattle are still being mistreated but they didn’t have a big race coming up this weekend...

Many as in too many :) V'lad was judged on both his responses to information put to him and the fact that Racing NSW rules were being broken. I judged purely on his (IMO) haughty response to the interview...never showed concern or passion that horses were being mistreated or that his "company" stood accused of mismanagement and inept control of their animal's fate. As you say, they can edit stuff to suit their agendas but his interview response seemed legit. I think its fair to assume he may not be much of an improvement on the dunder heads we've already got at NRLol. Remains to be seen I guess. He'll certainly start off pretty motivated after all this light being shone on part of his management.

I have seen Vlandys talk on other issues and he already had me worried. This was just another piece to justify my opinion of him, and reinforce my concern that you are expecting too much of him compared with our current administrators. I'm not convinced he is any better and he hasn't exactly made me want to change my mind. Time will tell, but I see you very passionate about "fixing" a range of NRL issues that are..... unfixable really.

The good thing about the public critiscism and spotlight on V'lad is he will be 100% committed to doing a good job in his new post...you would think...if he has any self awareness and accountability.
Bandana Man really got stuck into him on Sports Sunday. Friedman defended him and said he had personally spoke to him and knows V'lad is determined to improve their systems.

Yes I think it's a good thing that the spotlight is on him BEFORE he even starts in the NRL role... Too many times in the business world I have seen these types move into a role with expectations to improve things only to become more of the same or even worse the incumbents. By the time the people that put them in the role start "doing an internal performance review", the damage is done. At least now, the focus will be on him from day dot.

+x+x+xThe good thing about the public critiscism and spotlight on V'lad is he will be 100% committed to doing a good job in his new post...you would think...if he has any self awareness and accountability. Quite the contrary... the last thing the NRLol needed was it’s new boss mired in this stuff... And if you don’t think he’s be under intent scrutiny from day dot you obviously haven’t been paying attention...
